In June 1990 nine pieces of Southern Dynasties stone carvings were found in urban Chengdu, about two meters below surface. Two of them bear inscriptions revealing their time, one dated the 2^(nd)year of the Jianwu reign of the Qi (A. D. 495), and the other, the 10^(th) year of the Tianjian reign of the Liang (A. D. 511) . A lotus-like halo is provided in all cases. The statues show different combinations: I Buddha plus 2 Bodhisattvas; I Buddha plus 4 Bodhisattvas; I Buddha plus 4 Bodhisattvas, 2 guardians and some disciplcs in relief. Double-bodied Buddha is also found. Bearing a thematic, technical and stylistic similarity to those previously found at the Xi’an Street and the Wanfo Temple, these statues owe an influence to the Buddhist carvings of Jiankang of the Southern Dynasties.
