摘要
英语中诸多与国名有关的短语(似有"国籍")的形成有其特殊的历史或文化原因,它与各国特殊的风俗习惯、历史背景、人文环境、地理特征及特有的动植物相联系,其实际意义与字面意思大相径庭,理解时切忌望文生义.现以国别为界归纳常见该类短语,结合正确汉译介绍其约定俗成的涵义.
The formation of many English phrases containing certain countries' names (like their 'nationalities') have their special historical or cultural reasons, and they also have close connection with those countries' special customs and habits, historical milieu, human environment, geographical features, animals and plants, and their actual meaning are greatly different from their literal ones. It is important not to interpret them without real understanding. In this article, such kind of phrases will be induced according to their 'nationalities' and their established meaning will be explained by introducing their correct Chinese translations.
