According to International Standard, 'term' refers to verbal designation and to verbal designation only. Yet, for many, the word is used rather confusingly, sometimes in the sense of designation, sometimes in the sense of concept. This may be due to conception drifting in the speaker's mind, but it may also be result of another definition of term given by the Canadian terminologist Rondeau, who defined a term as a linguistic sign in the Saussurian sense of a combination of signifie and signifiant.
