摘要
五四新文化运动是近代中国划时代的伟大事件。傅斯年是躬与其事并发挥青年领袖作用的精英分子。尤应注意的是 ,他在运动高潮刚刚过后 ,于1 91 9年 8月 2 6日写给袁同礼的一封信中 ,对五四运动作了深刻反思。其中提出 ,中国社会“新动机大见发露” ;但必须注意“厚蓄实力 ,不轻发泄” ,以免“结个不熟的果子 ,登时落了”。他强调 ,改造中国 ,先要改造中国的社会 ,要改造社会 ,还要从改造自己做起。而与社会的结合 ,是改造社会的好元素。傅氏对五四运动的反思 ,涉及中国社会改造的一系列带根本性意义的问题 ,值得深入探讨。
The New Culture Movement during the May-Fourth period was an epochal event in modern Chinese history.As an active participant and youth leader,Fu Sinian reflected on the movement in his letter to Yuan Tongli on Aug.8,1919,immediately after it had reached its peak.He noted that China was at a period when “new opportunities emerge,” but “patience is needed to let the dynamics grow,” or else “the fruit would fall from the tree before it fully ripens.” Any changes in China,as he pointed out,must start from change in Chinese society that in turn depended on changes in individuals themselves.Immersing oneself in society was a good way to reform society.Fu's reflections upon the May-Fourth Movement involve some fundamental issues in China's social reform and deserve thorough exploration.
