Immunocytochemical staining was used to observe the distribution of Kv3. 1 and Kv3. 2 potassium channel proteins in the rat nervous system. The results showed a region-specific distribution pattern of these two proteins in the nervous system. Kv3. 1-immunoreactive neurons were mainly observed in the cortex, pyramidal cells layer of hippocampus, striatum, reticular nucleus of thalamus, hypothalamus, ventral cochlear nucleus, pontine nuclei; While Kv3. 2- immunoreactive neurons were mainly distributed in the deep layers of cortex, oriens layer of hippocampus, island of Calleja, ventral nucleus of lateral lemniscus, dorsal cochlear nucleus, Purkinje cell layer of cerebellum, vestibular nucleus. Kv3. 1 and Kv3. 2-positive neurons showed a 'reciprocal' distribution characteristics in some regions, such as cortex, hippocampus, cochlear nucleus and nucleus of lateral lemniscus. Kv3. 1 and Kv3. 2-immunoreactive fibers and terminals were also observed in some regions. The present results demonstrate that Kv3. 1 and Kv3. 2 potassium channel proteins are distributed widely in the nervous system, suggesting their involvement in multiple physiological functions.
