Encoding technique is the basal part of product data management system, the design directly affects the executive efficiency of the PDM system. The essential demand and function of encoding are discussed, and the frame and method of encoding are searched in detail under the condition of PDM. According to this theory, a tool of product code is realized on iMAN.
