The device is made of a subion laser which emits blue and green light. The length of the light wave is about 0.4880 to 0.5145m m, the divergentangle of the light beam is less than 10, the output power is about 1 to 25 m W and the length of the laser tube is less than 400 mm. The reasons for the selection of subion laser are as followings. 1. The helium-neon laser emits red light and the power needed is about 18 m W when the distance of the light emitting is about 1000 m. Such a large power heliumnean laser tube is not available at present. 2. The moisture fog penetration of the blue-green light emitted from the subion laser is over 20% higher than the moisture fog penetration of red light emitted from the helium-neon laser tube. 3. People are more sensitive to blue-green light than red light. The design of the guiding laser device has an optical system including a telescope with 56 time amplification. With this device, the blue-green light spot at a depth of 1000 m of the mine shaft was only 30 mm in diameter. Good results have been obtained from the trails at surface and in mine shaft with a depth of 1050 m.
