Single room fire zone model is built. The fire in which the suppressing effect of water sprays is taken into account is simulated. A new spray parameter is defined as effective spray coefficient, which physically stands for the effective ratios between spray area and fire area. The effects of effective spray coefficient and water spray flow rate on fire suppression mechanism are investigated. The simulations show that there are both a critical and a maximum value of water flow rates for a certain fire. To suppress a certain fire, the water spray flow rate must be more than a certain critical value. However, using too high water spray flow rate does not increase fire suppression efficiency but only leads to increased operational cost because of the excess water flow rate. These values are 0.0524 kg/s and 0.2 kg/s respectively.
