方志定型问题经诸多学者所论方志称名、数量与内容、体例等,使问题趋向清晰。方志发展史上所说的方志定型,指的是方志作为一种体裁,从总体上得到学界的肯定和广泛的推广应用,具有数量和质量上重大变化的转折,意味着方志编纂从自为到自觉的转变。方志定型使志、方志、地方志的概念得以共通,同时意味着地方志成为一种独立的体裁,史志区别有了依据。准确理解方志定型的涵义,对于指导方志编纂中把握继承与创新的分寸,有着重要的意义。
