摘要
西学东渐过程导致的东西方文明撞击中也产生了古老汉字与西方拼音文字之间的不谐奏鸣。传教士和中国近现代知识分子都参与了这场与汉字命运攸关的奏鸣。这奏鸣中有否定的语调、改进的呼声，也伴随着过于激奋的呐喊，但整体上构成一首前进曲。电子计算机的出现，给未完全解决的汉字现代化课题附加了新的困难条件；王码的出现解决了这一课题，使人们重新认识汉字文化的过去、现在和未来。
The course of spreading easteards of western learning led a collision between easternand western civilizations, which brought about a inharmonious 'sonata' betweenancient Chinese characters and western alphabetical system of writing. Missionariesand modern and contemporary Chinese intelligentsia have joined its play which hasbeen vital for the fate of Chinese characters. In it there have been negatingtunes, calls for reform and some extremist cheers, but on the whole it has constituted a forwarding march. Because of the emerge of electronic computer, new difficulties have arisen for the uncomplished task of modernization of Chinese characters.The invention of Wang Code has solved the problem and made people reconsider thepast, the present and the future of the culture of Chinese characters.
