Located at the Jueshan Temple on the western side of the Bijia Mountain 14 km to the southeast of the county seat of Lingqiu. Shanxi Province, the pagoda is a well-preserved survival in imitation of the wooden structure from the Liao dynasty. It was built in the 5th or 6th year of the Da' an reign (1089 or 1090) nine hundred years ago. In August 1994, scientists from the Institute for Research of Antiquity Preservation conducted an upshot measurement of the pagoda, and obtained a lot of accurate statistics. Of an octagonal plan, the pagoda is a thirteen-storied structure of a hard core with a height of 44. 23m. The pagoda consists of a base, a main body and a top. Every story has inrelief details of a wooden structure such as bracket and beam, as well as animal mask, flower, Buddhissattva, guardian, dragon and human beings. All these fleshy round carvings are neatly executed, and exhibit a Tang style. Presence of pillars with intertwining dragons, something that have parallels at the Jinci Temple in Shanxi and Yongle Palace, assists in dating such decorative practice in China. Beside these, some extremely valuable mural paintings are also found inside the pagoda, and the themes include Buddhissattva, flying Apsara and so on.
