摘要
自然语言理解(在此指书面语言的计算机理解)也称自然语言处理,它是计算语言学的分支,是人工智能研究中一个十分活跃的领域。自然语言理解从简单的语言信息处理到理解篇章、会话、走向认知科学,经历了二十年的发展历程。作为一门面向应用的边缘学科,自然语言理解的研究已受到人们的重视。它在理论和应用上所取得的成果也已向人们显示出其诱人的前景。
Understanding natural language (UNL) is a branch of computing linguistics, and it is one of the most active fields of artificial intelligence. UNL is useful not only to the application of com-puters. but also to the discovering of the ways a man thinks. This article gives a briefaccount of the application of computers, and also of the growth of UNL in the last twentyyears, from simple information processing to text and discourse understanding, It discusses theessential factors of UNL by the computer: a reasonable grammar for easy processing, and theinteraction of syntax, semantics and progmatics. The article concludes with a few remarks on thefocus of current UNL research and the future of UNL.
