It is true that the Jesuits underlined the positive side with some exaggerations when making informed Europears of Chinese things. But, they revealed a lot of negative phenomena, too. Therefore, their reports reflected essential, reality of China and there is no reason to talk about a 'Chinese Myth'.
It was not question for Voltaire to create any 'Chinese Myth', since he didn't add any information about China. The differences between Voltaire and Montesquieu when they commented China can not be found in the facts they were based on, but in the nuance of their political theories.
Both admiration and criticism proved the great influences of China in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries.
