The Hsi T'uan Hill site lies about 2.5 kilometres southwest of the City of Ki(?)in. In September, 1950, excavations conducted at the site brought to light a total of nineteen cist tombs. These may be divided into three groups according to the shape of the cist: (1) Those with an oblong cist, including Tombs No IV, V, VI,VII, X, and XI; (2 ) Those with an oblong cist provided with a side chamber. These may be sub-divided into two groups, one represented by Tombs No. I, II, IV,XII, XIII, XIV, XV, XVI, XVIII and XIX, the other by Tombs No. VIII and XVII; and (3) Tomb No. Ⅲ with a smail quasi-square cist. The dead often wore tubular stone beads and ornaments fashioned from boar's teeth. His stone axes, knives and arrowheads were usually placed on the right of the hip and thighs. Pottery vases and bowls were placed near the feet or in the side chamber while the pig mandibles were often found on the cover of the cist. The pottery consists predominantly of a brown sandy ware which is mostly undecorated. The most characteristic shapes are the hu-vase with horizontal handles and a rather peculiar type of handled bowl. The long crescent-shaped stone knives represent another unique find of this region. So far, remains of this type seem to have been confined within a definite area, extending northward to Tehui, southward to Huaite, eastward to Changchun and westward to Huatien. These tombs probably correspond in date to the end of the Spring and Autumn Period and the beginning of the Warring-States Period.
