Travel writing constitutes a major part of Elizabeth Bishop's poetry.Bishop's Brazil poems result from her reading and interpretation of certain texts about Brazil's nature and geography. In her travel writing,Bishop examines the dynamic formation of colonial culture and reflects on the decay and dissipation of the invasive culture. This paper explores Bishop's travel poems through a post-structuralist approach, focusing on her spatial poetics and the production of ideology in the context of cultural anthropology.
