“把”字句的基本语义是致使。“把”字句VP在语义上表达了一个致使情景，致使情景由致使事件和被使事件这两个有致使关系的事件构成。就表达形式来说，致使事件必须由具体词汇表达，被使事件可以由具体词汇表达，也可以隐含。“把”字句的主语是致使者，“把”的宾语是被使者。将“把”字句统一于语义上的致使，几乎能概括所有“把”字句的语义特点，过去所说的“处置”只是致使的一种，是一种有意志力参与的、主动的施行性致使。致使性解释能很好地说明“把”字句形式方面的特点。
The basic meaning of the Ba-sentence in Chinese is causativity. The VP in the Ba-sen-
tence expresses semantically a causative situation that consists of two events of causative rela-
tion, namely, the causing one and the caused one. The causing event must be expressed ex-
plicitly by lexical means while the caused event can either be expressed explicitly or implicitly.
The subject of the Ba-sentence is the causer and the object the causee. Causativity provides a
unified explanation of the semantic features of the Ba-sentence. The Ba-sentence was known as
the disposal construction. Execu is only a kind of causativity, i. e. controllable causativity in
which volition is involved. The employment of the term causativity makes it possible to give a
good explanation of the formal features of the Ba-sentence.
