In sulfur-deficient seawater medium, the H 2 yield produced by marine green alga Platymonas subcordiformis increased significantly, reaching about 13-fold that in sulfur-containing medium. The absorption spectra of the algal cells and the protein extracts indicated that sulfur-deficiency in the medium differed from nature seawater obviously.
