The thesis attempts to give an interpretation of A House for Mr. Biswas by V.S.Naibaul, from the perspective of post colonialism. The paper argues that the motif of the protagonist seeking a house all his life, in fact, represents a condition of displacement for post colonial peoples. So the act of seeking is not only one for protecting and security under the pressure of life, but also a metaphysical search for personal independence and dignity. Thus Mr Biswas can be seen as an Everyman of the post colonial society and V.S. Naibaul, a postcolonial writer, their representative. As a whole, the novel is illustrative of the real life conditions of the third world peoples under the impact of globalization.
