Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter(PICC)is a Central venous Catheter Catheter that is Inserted into the superior vena cava(SVC)or inferior vena cava(IVC)at the tip of the Central venous Catheter.PICC is a commonly used method for long-term intravenous treatment. It has the advantages of convenient operation, high success rate of puncture, high patient compliance and long indwelling time, and it can also be directly delivered into superior vena cava through a long catheter to rapidly dilute the drug solution in order to reduce the damage of the drug to the blood vessel, and to a certain extent, reduce the injury and pain of long-term intravenous treatment to the patients. This article reviews the clinical characteristics and progress of PICC from the aspects of its application status, influence on the puncture process and catheter-related complications,so as to provide reference for the selection of PICC catheterization vein in clinic.
