摘要
医学教育构成西医在华传播的重要组成部分,但哪种教学模式更有利于西方科学医学在华发展?本文以英国梅威令率领三位华人医学生在香港、上海参加医学考试,并在李鸿章的军营表演"车营救治死伤之法"的事件为例,考察了梅威令教学模式与当时盛行的医学传教模式间的差别,揭示出19世纪的中国还出现过世俗的医学教育,分析了两者之间的分歧与矛盾;通过史料辨析,本文梳理了梅威令与李鸿章相见的史实。作者提出只有在医学教育的世俗环境形成、医学进入国家体制和华人医生的身份获得认同时,西医才能行于中国。
Medical education played a significant role in the 19 th century introduction of Western medicine into China.But what kind of medical instruction model was better for the development of western scientific medicine in China?To answer this question,this article explores the differences between Myers’instructive model and the prevailing ones adopted for medical missions in the 19 th century China,by analyzing the medical examinations three medical students took in Hong Kong and Chines under the supervision of British Dr.W.Myers and the acting"Medical Cadet Detachment"at the Viceroy Li Hung Chang’s barrack in Tientsin.It is argued that a secular medical education model emerged in the medical education market under the control of the medical mission,and that there existed disagreement and contradictions between the two models.The author argues that scientific medicine became feasible in China when the secular environment for medical education formed,the national health system established and the western Chinese physicians were acknowledged.
