There is much evidence that patients with a lower viral load have better response rates to anti-viral therapy compared to those with higher levels. Moreover,a direct association has been observed between serum titers of HCV and transmission rates of the virus. The aim of the present study was to determine if there was any correlation between HCV viral load and the severity of liver disease. METHODS:Fifty patients with HCV infection were included in the study. These comprised of 34 subjects with a history of alcohol use and 16 non-alcoholics.Quantitative serum HCV RNA assay was carried out using the branched DNA (bDNA) technique.Linear regression analysis was performed between serum viral titers and liver tests. In addition, for the purpose of comparison, the subjects were divided into two groups:those with low viral liters (≤50 genome mEq/mL) and high titers (>50 mEq/mL). RESULTS:All subjects were men, with a mean±SD age of 47±7.8 years. The mean HCV RNA level in the blood was 76.3×10~5±109.1 genome equivalents/mL.There was no correlation between HCV RNA levels and age of the patients (r=0.181),and the history or amount (g/d) of alcohol consumption (r=0.07).Furthermore,no correlation was observed between serum HCV RNA levels and the severity of liver disease as judged by the values of serum albumin (r=0.175),bilirubin (r=0.217),ALT (r=0.06) and AST (r=0.004) levels.Similarly,no significant difference was observed between patients with low viral titers and high liters with respect to any of the parameters. CONCLUSION:Our results indicate that the severity of liver disease is independent of serum levels of hepatitis C virus. These findings are important since they have a direct impact on the current debate regarding the role of direct cytopathic effect of hepatitis C virus versus immune-mediated injury in the pathogenesis of HCV-related liver damage.展开更多

In addition to a symptomatic, serologically evident infection, occult persistent HBV carriage has been identified since nucleic acid amplification assays of enhanced sensitivity became introduced for detection of hepadnaviral genomes and their replicative intermediates. Current evidence indicates that occult HBV infection is a common and long-term consequence of resolution of acute hepatitis B. This form of residual infection is termed as secondary occult infection (SOI). The data from the woodchuck model of HBV infection indicate that exposure to small amounts of hepadnavirus can also cause primary occult infection (POI) where virus genome, but no serological makers of exposure to virus, are detectable, and the liver may not be involved. However, virus replicates at low levels in the lymphatic system in both these forms. We briefly summarize the current understanding of the nature and characteristics of occult hepadnaviral persistence as well as of its documented and expected pathological consequences.展开更多

We briefly summarize the current understanding of the nature and characteristics of occult hepadnaviral persistence as well as of its documented and expected pathological consequences.
文摘Grapevine is unique among crops because its domestication resulted not only in new morphological characteristics, but also in altered reproductive mechanisms.Viticulture involves a change from a dioecious to a hermaphroditic mating system, which makes the reproductive system more efficient. In consequence and the fact that it is one of the oldest and most economically important cultivated plants,Vitis vinifera could be defined as an over-domesticated species. Here we review some key aspects in viticulture. The main areas of interest have remained consistent throughout history, including the origin and characterisation of cultivars, resistance to environmental con-ditions,pests and pathogens, and berry quality.Advances in genomic analysis and epigenetics shed new light on these aspects.Although the vine has a long and complex life cycle, recent haplotype sequencing techniques allow genomic characteristics related to different reproduction processes to be identified.Recent work on haplotype sequencing reveals genomic changes accompanying each reproductive type, providing improved detail about the sex-determining region(SDR).Meanwhile, the application of epigenetic analysis offers new tools for defining varietal characteristics and their responses to changing environmental conditions. However, critical issues, such as differentiating between sylvestris and feral cultivars, remain unclear.Understanding the molecular basis of morphological differences and investigating the epigenetic regulation of gene expression and genome dynamics in response to breeding and environmental factors in this species will be crucial.Seed morphology could help to resolve how to differentiate between wild and feral plants.
文摘Critical Height Sampling(CHS)estimates stand volume free from any model and tree form assumptions.Despite its introduction more than four decades ago,CHS has not been widely applied in the field due to perceived challenges in measurement. The objectives of this study were to compare estimated stand volume between CHS and sampling methods that used volume or taper models, the equivalence of the sampling methods, and their relative efficiency. We established 65 field plots in planted forests of two coniferous tree species. We estimated stand volume for a range of Basal Area Factors(BAFs).Results showed that CHS produced the most similar mean stand volume across BAFs and tree species with maximum differences between BAFs of 5-18m^(3)·ha^(−1).Horizontal Point Sampling(HPS)using volume models produced very large variability in mean stand volume across BAFs with the differences up to 126m^(3)·ha^(−1).However,CHS was less precise and less efficient than HPS.Furthermore, none of the sampling methods were statistically interchangeable with CHS at an allowable tolerance of≤55m^(3)·ha^(−1).About 72%of critical height measurements were below crown base indicating that critical height was more accessible to measurement than expected. Our study suggests that the consistency in the mean estimates of CHS is a major advantage when planning a forest inventory. When checking against CHS,results hint that HPS estimates might contain potential model bias. These strengths of CHS could outweigh its lower precision. Our study also implies serious implications in financial terms when choosing a sampling method.Lastly,CHS could potentially benefit forest management as an alternate option of estimating stand volume when volume or taper models are lacking or are not reliable.
文摘The Moroccan automotive industry is experiencing steady growth, positioning itself as the largest manufacturer of passenger cars in Africa. This expansion is leading to a significant increase in waste generation, particularly from end-of-life vehicles(ELVs),which require proper dismantling and disposal to minimize environmental harm.Millions of tonnes of automotive waste are generated annually, necessitating efficient waste management strategies to mitigate environmental and health risks.ELVs contain hazardous substances such as heavy metals, oils, and plastics, which,if not properly managed, can contaminate soil and water resources. To address this challenge, reverse logistics networks play a crucial role in optimizing the recovery of used components, enhancing recycling efficiency, and ensuring the safe disposal of hazardous and non-recyclable waste. This paper introduces a mathematical programming model designed to minimize the total costs associated with ELVs collection, treatment, and transportation while also accounting for revenues from the resale of repaired, directly reusable,or recycled components. The proposed model determines the optimal locations for processing facilities and establishes efficient material flows within the reverse logistics network.By integrating economic and environmental considerations, this model supports the development of a sustainable and cost-effective automotive waste management system, ultimately contributing to a circular economy approach in the industry.
文摘BACKGROUND Insulin resistance is a cardiometabolic risk factor characterized by elevated insulin levels. It is associated with fatty liver disease and elevated liver function tests(LFT)in cross-sectional studies, but data from cohort studies are scarce.AIM To investigate the association between insulin and pathological LFT,liver disease, and cirrhosis in a populationbased retrospective cohort study.METHODS Anthropometric and cardiometabolic factors of 857 men and 1228 women from prospective cohort studies were used.LFT were obtained at two time points 8 years to 24 years after baseline.Liver disease diagnoses were obtained from nationwide registries. The association between insulin levels and the development of elevated LFT or liver disease and cirrhosis was analyzed.RESULTS Total follow-up was 54054 person-years for women and 27556 person-years for men.Insulin levels were positively correlated with elevated LFT during follow-up,whereas physical activity and coffee consumption were negatively correlated.Individuals with both insulin levels in the upper tertile and alcohol consumption above MASLD thresholds had an increased risk for both liver disease, adjusted hazard ratio(aHR)of 4.3(95%CI:1.6-14.6)and cirrhosis(aHR=4.8,95%CI:1.6-14.6).CONCLUSION This population-based study provides evidence that high insulin levels are a risk factor for development of elevated liver enzymes and clinically manifest liver disease. The results support the concept of metabolic dysfunction associated liver disease.
文摘The southern part of East Siberia(SES)is highly vulnerable to flooding caused by the extreme precipitation events(EPEs)during summer.Building on previously detected EPEs in SES and Mongolia,we examined wave propagation patterns for two periods:1982-98 and 1999-2019.Our analysis revealed distinct wave train configurations and geopotential anomalies preceding EPEs,with an increase in wave activity flux across the Northern Hemisphere, followed by a subsequent decrease during EPEs.Consequently,Eastern Siberia has experienced a significant rise in wave activity.Based on geopotential anomalies over Central Siberia accompanying EPEs,we identified two main types. The first, the ridge type,is predominant during the first period and features a meridional contrast with a positive geopotential(and temperature)anomaly over Central Siberia and a negative anomaly over the subtropical regions along the same longitude. The second type, termed the trough type,is more typical for the second period. It involves either a negative geopotential anomaly or the zonal proximity of positive and negative geopotential anomalies over Central Siberia. The trough type, marked by zonally oriented anomalies in geopotential and temperature, results in a more pronounced temperature decrease before EPEs and significant zonal temperature contrasts.Further,it is related to more stationary waves over Northern Eurasia, with persistent positive geopotential anomalies over Europe linked to quasi-stationary troughs over Central Siberia and positive anomalies east of Lake Baikal. Our findings align with shifts in boreal summer teleconnection patterns, reflecting significant changes in wave propagation patterns that have occurred since the late 1990s.
文摘Reliable and efficient communication is essential for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)networks, especially in dynamic and resource-constrained environments such as disaster management, surveillance, and environmental monitoring.Frequent topology changes, high mobility, and limited energy availability pose significant challenges to maintaining stable and high-performance routing.Traditional routing protocols, such as Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector(AODV),Load-Balanced Optimized Predictive Ad hoc Routing(LB-OPAR),and Destination-Sequenced Distance Vector(DSDV),often experience performance degradation under such conditions. To address these limitations, this study evaluates the effectiveness of Dynamic Adaptive Routing(DAR),a protocol designed to adapt routing decisions in real time based on network dynamics and resource constraints. The research utilizes the Network Simulator 3(NS-3)platform to conduct controlled simulations, measuring key performance indicators such as latency,Packet Delivery Ratio(PDR),energy consumption, and throughput.Comparative analysis reveals that DAR consistently outperforms conventional protocols, achieving a 20%-30% reduction in latency,a 25% decrease in energy consumption, and marked improvements in throughput and PDR.These results highlight DAR’s ability to maintain high communication reliability while optimizing resource usage in challenging operational scenarios.By providing empirical evidence of DAR’s advantages in highly dynamic UAV network environments, this study contributes to advancing adaptive routing strategies. The findings not only validate DAR’s robustness and scalability but also lay the groundwork for integrating artificial intelligence-driven decision-making and real-world UAV deployment.Future work will explore cross-layer optimization,multi-UAV coordination, and experimental validation in field trials, aiming to further enhance communication resilience and energy efficiency in next-generation aerial networks.

文摘The paper deals with the FEM(Finite Element Method)simulation of rotary swaging of Dievar alloy produced by additive manufacturing technology Selective Laser Melting and conventional process.Swaging was performed at a temperature of 900℃.True flow stress-strain curves were determined for 600℃–900℃and used to construct a Hensel-Spittel model for FEM simulation. The process parameters,i.e.,stress,temperature,imposed strain, and force, were investigation during the rotary swaging process.Firstly, the stresses induced during rotary swaging and the resistance of the material to deformation were investigated. The amount and distribution of imposed strain in the cross-section can serve as a valuable indicator of the reduction in porosity and the texture evolution of the material. The simulation revealed the force required to swag the Dievar alloy. It also showed the evolution of temperature, which is important for phase transformation during solidification.Furthermore, microstructure evolutionwas observed before and then after rotary swaging.Dievar alloy is a critical material in the manufacture of dies for high-pressure die casting, forging tools, and other equipment subjected to high temperatures and mechanical loads.Understanding its viscoelastoplastic behavior under rotary swaging conditions is essential to optimize its performance in these demanding industrial applications.
文摘Background:Vestibular assessments, such as the video ocular counter roll(vOCR)test, offer valuable insights into the interactions between age, otolith function, and vestibular performance. Objective:To analyze the relation between age and vOCR gains as a potential marker of age-related otolith degeneration. Methods:A total of 107 participants underwent vOCR testing.Descriptive statistics and simple linear regression analyses were conducted to explore the association between age and vOCR gains. Results were presented using regression coefficients,95%confidence intervals,p-values,and R-squared values. Results:In the overall sample, statistically significant associations were observed between age and vOCR gains in both ears. For the right ear,vOCR gains decreased with increasing age(coefficient:-0.03;95%CI:-0.05 to-0.01;p<0.001;R^(2)=0.08),while the left ear showed a slightly stronger association(coefficient:-0.04;95%CI:-0.07 to-0.02;p<0.001;R²=0.12).These findings indicate a moderate age-related decline in otolith-mediated vestibular responses. Conclusion:vOCR gains appear to decline with age, reflecting potential age-related otolith degeneration. These results support the clinical value of vOCR as a non-invasive method to assess vestibular function and its changes across the lifespan.

文摘The paper considers a catastrophic event-the eruption of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcano on January 15,2022.The process of preparation and eruption of Hunga Tonga volcano generated tsunami waves that were observed throughout the World Ocean. This event was notable for its unprecedented global impact and the early appearance of tsunami waves at distant coastal stations. So,the first waves at tide gauge stations in Chile and Peru were recorded 4 hours earlier than the arrival time of tsunami waves to the tide gauge after the eruption of Tonga volcano. Two mechanisms are possible for the generation of early tsunami waves:acoustic Lamb waves generated by a volcanic explosion and submarine landslides that occurred on the slopes of the volcano during the preparatory phase of the eruption. In this study, numerical simulation of various pre-eruption landslide scenarios on the slope of Hunga Tonga volcano is carried out in an attempt to explain these early tsunami waves.Under computation the elastoplastic model of landslide was taken into account.Wave characteristics of a tsunami on the coast of Chile and Peru generated by a landslide process on a volcanic slope are obtained.A detailed comparison of virtual tide gauge data with observational ones is used to validate this model. The results obtained can be used to improve early warning systems.

文摘This work aims to compare the chemical composition and anti-inflammatory effects on RAW264.7 macrophages of Keemun black tea stems and leaves.A total of 50 volatile compounds were identified in tea stems and leaves, and aldehydes, alcohols, and esters were the main volatile compound categories. There were 11 key volatile compounds, including geraniol, benzeneacetaldehyde, methyl salicylate, linalool, etc.contributed to distinguishing the tea stems from the tea leaves. In the quantitative and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS)-based metabolomics analysis, higher contents of amino acids, monosaccharides, and quinic acids were found in stems than those in leaves.Inversely, higher contents of tea pigments,flavan-3-ols,gallic acid, purine alkaloids, and flavonol glycosides were present in tea leaves than in stems.LC-MS-based metabolomics also revealed that organic acids were the most critical non-volatile compounds responsible for the differences between tea stems and leaves.Furthermore, tea stems had better inhibiting effects of pro-inflammatory cytokines(interleukin(IL)-1βand IL-6)in lipopolysaccharide-challenged RAW264.7 macrophages than tea leaves, while no significant differences exist between leaves and stems for inhibiting the secretion of tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α)and NO.In conclusion, our results support using Keemun black tea stems as a novel source of anti-inflammatory compounds.

文摘Background:There is growing evidence that an acute bout of exercise positively influences executive function(EF).However, the existing evidence primarily originates from laboratory-based studies, and only a limited number of studies have extended this work to real-world classroom settings.Accordingly,in the present study,we aimed to employ a real classroom setting to determine whether acute exercise-induced effects on EF emerged. Methods:All 49 students who enrolled in a real-world course agreed to participate in the experimental protocol and the final sample was composed of 43 individuals(13 male and 30 female participants).Participants were asked to perform an acute bout of exercise(i.e,10 min at moderate intensity)before a real classroom, and on a separate day, complete a non-exercise control condition.EF was assessed via Naming,Inhibition, and Switching variants of the Stroop task.We used a paired-samples t-test to compare participants’cognitive load between two conditions and a repeated-measures ANOVA to investigate changes in RPE.What’s more,a repeated measures ANOVA was used to examine potential pre-to post-class changes in EF-related parameters(e.g.,inverse efficiency scores, reaction times, and error rates). Results:A pre-to post-class benefit in performance efficiency across all Stroop task variants was shown. In both exercise and control conditions, there was a significant main effect of time, with lower inverse efficiency scores(IES)(p=0.003)and shorter reaction times(RT)(p<0.001)observed from pre-to post-class.Moreover,performance gains varied by Stroop task-type,with the Switching task showing the longest RTs and largest IES,reflecting its greater cognitive demands.Importantly,a marginally significant three-way interaction among task-type,intervention,and time(p=0.052)indicated that the exercise intervention enhanced post-class performance on the Switching task.Post-hoc analyses revealed significantly lower IES and faster RTs at post-class for both the Naming and Switching tasks, particularly in the exercise group(e.g.,Switching IES:p<0.001;Switching RT:p<0.001).Conclusions:These findings suggest that pre-class acute exercise enhances EF and provides a benefit to cognitive flexibility.Accordingly, our results extend previous knowledge by indicating that the cognitive benefits of acute exercise observed primarily in laboratory settings can be translated to real-world educational contexts.

文摘Water-soluble organic matter(WSOM)significantly influences the transport of metals and organic contaminants in soils, yet the interaction specifics with antimony(Sb)remain largely unexplored.Antimony is of particular environmental concern due to its toxic properties and harmful effects on ecosystems and human health.Employing a three-step fractionation method with polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP),this study aimed to isolate and analyze humic acids(HA),PVP-non adsorbed fulvic acids(FAA),and PVP-adsorbed fulvic acids(FAB)from WSOM in soil spiked with Sb and incubated for 18 months. These fractions underwent chemical analysis for carbon(C),nitrogen(N),total organic carbon(TOC),and Sb,complemented by FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopic characterization. The study revealed that HA wasmore aliphatic, with Sb predominantly associating with the fulvic acid(FA)fraction, accounting for 97%of Sb in extracts.Specifically, the FAA subfraction held substantial portions of total carbon(TC),total nitrogen(TN),total organic carbon(TOC),and Sb.Correlations between Sb concentrations and TN,TC,and TOC were significant.Extraction methods showed NaOH and Na_(4)P_(2)O_(7) outperformed HCl and deionised water in extracting TC,TN,and TOC,with higher Sb concentrations found in Na_(4)P_(2)O_(7) and NaOH extracts. This underscores the role of Fe/Al-SOM complexes in Sb soil availability. The results revealed that FAA subfraction accounted for 76%,64%and 94%of TN,TOC and Sb,respectively. Therefore, this research highlights the FAA fraction’s central role, predominantly comprising non-humic substances like amines,in the availability of C,N,and Sb in Sb-impacted soils. The findings offer insights for environmental management and remediation strategies.
