Several studies have identified change orders as significant problem in Jordanian construction projects, and they mainly cause delay and cost overrun. This situation spurs the researchers for investigating the significant causes of change orders in construction projects. Thus, this paper aims to determine the main causes of change orders in the Jordanian construction private sector which responsible for significant cost overrun. Both qualitative and quantitative methods, i.e. interview and questionnaire techniques, were used to achieve this aim. Interviews were conducted as the first stage of data collection, and the results formed the basis of the questionnaire, which was distributed across the Jordanian construction sector. Content analysis was used to analyse the interview responses, while factor analysis, correlation and the Severity Index (SI) were used to analyse the questionnaire results. The findings identified three main categories of causes of change orders in private sector, namely engineering causes, causes related to the client, and circumstances of the project, with sub-causes in each category which are related to each other in significant ways and which affect each other.展开更多

Objective: To assess the rate of mammary prosthesis extrusion after mammoplasty with prosthesis implantation, to verify the resulting shape and the degree of patient satisfaction after the use of a transverse bipedicu...Objective: To assess the rate of mammary prosthesis extrusion after mammoplasty with prosthesis implantation, to verify the resulting shape and the degree of patient satisfaction after the use of a transverse bipediculated flap with lateral irrigations. Methods: 30 patients with a weight loss of 50 kg on average after video-assisted bariatric surgery, with ptosis and excessive volumes, who underwent mammoplasty with prosthesis placement with volumes ranging from 190 to 260 cc, using a transverse flap with the aim of anchoring the silicone prosthesis. Results: In the patients’ evaluation, the few postoperative complaints did not amount to complications. Pains were minimal and the discomfort with the prosthesis was acceptable. Conclusion: the transverse flap, in addition to acting as the best anchor among the existing flaps for implanted prostheses, provided a youthful, natural, anatomical, aesthetic and longer lasting appearance for the breasts.展开更多

The effects of particle size, contact time, ...Removal of nitrophenols (NPs) from aqueous solutions through the adsorption process by using cationic β-cyclodextrin (CCD) modified zeolite (CCDMZ) was investigated. The effects of particle size, contact time, solution pH values and sodium chloride content in the aqueous on adsorption capacity were evaluated through a series of batch experiments. The results showed that CCDMZ had a higher adsorption capacity for removing NPs at a size fraction of 0.45-0.9 mm while adsorption of NPs on CCDMZ reached equilibrium within 60 min. The adsorption process was apparently influenced by pH values and sodium chloride content in aqueous solution. To ascertain the mechanisms of sorption, the experimental data were modeled by using the pseudo-first and pseudo-second order kinetic equations, and the results indicated that the adsorption kinetics of NPs on CCDMZ well-matched with the pseudo-second order rate expression.展开更多

The interaction between anchor chain and soil is a very complex proce...With the development of offshore engineering, deeply embedded anchors are needed to be penetrated to appreciable depth and attached at the pad-eye. The interaction between anchor chain and soil is a very complex process and has not been thoroughly understood yet. In this paper, the finite element method (FEM) was used to study the interaction of soil-chain system. Results of the analysis show that when the attachment point is at a shallow depth, the load-development characteristics of the chain from FEM are in good agreement with that from the model tests and theoretical analysis. But with the depth increment, the results are different obviously in different methods. This phenomenon is resulted from a variety of reasons, and the plastic zone around the chain was studied to try finding the mechanism behind it. It could be seen that the plastic zone extended in different modes at different depths of attachment points. The interaction between the soil and anchor chain makes the load acting on the anchor decrease, but the soil disturbed surrounding the chain increases the anchor failure possibility. When the anchor bearing capacity is evaluated, these two factors should be considered properly at the same time.展开更多

The control effect of a digitalfuzzy controller based on looking up fuzzy control responding table is only relative to the table and not relative tothe fuzzy control rules in the practical control process. Aiming at above problem and having combined fuzzy log-ic reasoning with digital operational characteristics of a single-chip microcomputer, functioning-fuzzy-subset in-ference (FFSI) in binary, in which triangle membership functions of error and error-in-change are all represen-ted in binary and singleton membership functions of control variable is binary too, has been introduced. The cir-cuit principle plans of a single-chip fuzzy controller have been introduced for development of its hardware, andthe primary program structure, fuzzy logic reasoning subroutine, serial communication subroutine with PC andreliability design of the fuzzy controller are all discussed in detail. The control of indoor temperature by a fuzzycontroller has been conducted using a testing-room thermodynamic system. Concrete expansion and cracking at high altitudes present persistent challenges in construction,primarily due to extreme solar radiation and low night temperatures.Current mitigation strategies largely overlook energy...Concrete expansion and cracking at high altitudes present persistent challenges in construction,primarily due to extreme solar radiation and low night temperatures.Current mitigation strategies largely overlook energy regulation,relying instead on material modification and subsequent repair.However,these approaches fail to address the root cause of thermal cracking:Excessive temperature gradient within the concrete and constant temperature stress fluctuations.Recognizing that mitigating the excessive solar energy input at high altitudes is the key to solving this problem,this study introduces a highaltitude anti-cracking coating(HAAC)designed to leverage radiative cooling technology.The coating employs an innovative cooling strategy to reduce the temperature gradient and mitigate stress fluctuations in the concrete from the source successfully achieving zero-energy thermal protection for the concrete.Preliminary outdoor cooling tests,high-altitude concrete thermal protection tests,and thermal stress analyses were conducted on these materials.The results show that the application of HAAC to the concrete substrate reduced the maximum temperature by 9.9℃,decreased the day-night temperature differential by 10℃,lowered the surface thermal stress by 1.1 MPa,and limited the maximum thermal stress to only 1.9 MPa.Additionally,HAAC exhibited good weathering resistance,offering long-term thermal protection to concrete.These attributes make HAAC suitable for large-scale construction projects in high-altitude areas.展开更多

Prediction of enhancer-promoter interactions(EPIs)is key to regulating gene expression and diagnosing genetic diseases.Due to limited resolution,biological experiments perform not as well as expected while precisely i...Prediction of enhancer-promoter interactions(EPIs)is key to regulating gene expression and diagnosing genetic diseases.Due to limited resolution,biological experiments perform not as well as expected while precisely identifying specific interactions,giving rise to computational biology approaches.Many EPI predictors have been developed,but their prediction accuracy still needs to be enhanced.Here,we design a new model named EPIMR to identify enhancer-promoter interactions.First,Hilbert Curve is utilized to represent sequences to images to preserve the position and spatial information.Second,a multi-scale residual neural network(ResNet)is used to learn the distinguishing features of different abstraction levels.Finally,matching heuristics are adopted to concatenate the learned features of enhancers and promoters,which pays attention to their potential interaction information.Experimental results on six cell lines indicate that EPIMR performs better than existing methods,with higher area under the precision-recall curve(AUPR)and area under the receiver operating characteristic(AUROC)results on benchmark and under-sampling datasets.Furthermore,our model is pre-trained on all cell lines,which improves not only the transferability of cross-cell line prediction,but also cell line-specific prediction ability.In conclusion,our method serves as a valuable technical tool for predicting enhancer-promoter interactions,contributing to the understanding of gene transcription mechanisms.Our code and results are available at https://github.com/guofei-tju/EPIMR.展开更多
The combination of urbanization and global warming leads to urban overheating and compounds the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events due to climate change.Yet,the risk of urban overheating can be mitigated b...The combination of urbanization and global warming leads to urban overheating and compounds the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events due to climate change.Yet,the risk of urban overheating can be mitigated by urban green-blue-grey infrastructure(GBGI),such as parks,wetlands,and engineered greening,which have the potential to effectively reduce summer air temperatures.Despite many reviews,the evidence bases on quantified GBGI cooling benefits remains partial and the practical recommendations for implementation are unclear.This systematic literature review synthesizes the evidence base for heat mitigation and related co-benefits,identifies knowledge gaps,and proposes recommendations for their implementation to maximize their benefits.After screening 27,486 papers,202 were reviewed,based on 51 GBGI types categorized under 10 main divisions.Certain GBGI(green walls,parks,street trees)have been well researched for their urban cooling capabilities.However,several other GBGI have received negligible(zoological garden,golf course,estuary)or minimal(private garden,allotment)attention.The most efficient air cooling was observed in botanical gardens(5.0±3.5℃),wetlands(4.9±3.2℃),green walls(4.1±4.2℃),street trees(3.8±3.1℃),and vegetated balconies(3.8±2.7℃).Under changing climate conditions(2070–2100)with consideration of RCP8.5,there is a shift in climate subtypes,either within the same climate zone(e.g.,Dfa to Dfb and Cfb to Cfa)or across other climate zones(e.g.,Dfb[continental warm-summer humid]to BSk[dry,cold semi-arid]and Cwa[temperate]to Am[tropical]).These shifts may result in lower efficiency for the current GBGI in the future.Given the importance of multiple services,it is crucial to balance their functionality,cooling performance,and other related co-benefits when planning for the future GBGI.This global GBGI heat mitigation inventory can assist policymakers and urban planners in prioritizing effective interventions to reduce the risk of urban overheating,filling research gaps,and promoting community resilience.展开更多

Aiming at above problem and having combined fuzzy log-ic reasoning with digital operational characteristics of a single-chip microcomputer, functioning-fuzzy-subset in-ference (FFSI) in binary, in which triangle membership functions of error and error-in-change are all represen-ted in binary and singleton membership functions of control variable is binary too, has been introduced. The cir-cuit principle plans of a single-chip fuzzy controller have been introduced for development of its hardware, andthe primary program structure, fuzzy logic reasoning subroutine, serial communication subroutine with PC andreliability design of the fuzzy controller are all discussed in detail. The control of indoor temperature by a fuzzycontroller has been conducted using a testing-room thermodynamic system. Research results show that the FFSIin binary can exercise a concise fuzzy control in a single-chip fuzzy controller, and the fuzzy controller is there-fore reliable and possesses a high performance-price ratio.

文摘Concrete expansion and cracking at high altitudes present persistent challenges in construction,primarily due to extreme solar radiation and low night temperatures.Current mitigation strategies largely overlook energy regulation,relying instead on material modification and subsequent repair.However,these approaches fail to address the root cause of thermal cracking:Excessive temperature gradient within the concrete and constant temperature stress fluctuations.Recognizing that mitigating the excessive solar energy input at high altitudes is the key to solving this problem,this study introduces a highaltitude anti-cracking coating(HAAC)designed to leverage radiative cooling technology.The coating employs an innovative cooling strategy to reduce the temperature gradient and mitigate stress fluctuations in the concrete from the source successfully achieving zero-energy thermal protection for the concrete.Preliminary outdoor cooling tests,high-altitude concrete thermal protection tests,and thermal stress analyses were conducted on these materials.The results show that the application of HAAC to the concrete substrate reduced the maximum temperature by 9.9℃,decreased the day-night temperature differential by 10℃,lowered the surface thermal stress by 1.1 MPa,and limited the maximum thermal stress to only 1.9 MPa.Additionally,HAAC exhibited good weathering resistance,offering long-term thermal protection to concrete.These attributes make HAAC suitable for large-scale construction projects in high-altitude areas.
文摘Behavior of rockfills was investigated experimentally and theoretically.A series of standard triaxial compression tests were carried out on a quarried rockfill material at different stress levels.It was found that both the stress level and the shear stress ratio,like most of granular materials,controls the behavior of rockfill materials.At lower shear stress ratios the behavior is much more similar to a nonlinear elastic solid.When the shear stress goes further,the stressstrain curve shows an elasto-plastic behavior which suggests using the disturbed state concept to develop a constitutive model to predict the stress-strain behavior.The presented constitutive model complies reasonably with the experimental data.

文摘Prediction of enhancer-promoter interactions(EPIs)is key to regulating gene expression and diagnosing genetic diseases.Due to limited resolution,biological experiments perform not as well as expected while precisely identifying specific interactions,giving rise to computational biology approaches.Many EPI predictors have been developed,but their prediction accuracy still needs to be enhanced.Here,we design a new model named EPIMR to identify enhancer-promoter interactions.First,Hilbert Curve is utilized to represent sequences to images to preserve the position and spatial information.Second,a multi-scale residual neural network(ResNet)is used to learn the distinguishing features of different abstraction levels.Finally,matching heuristics are adopted to concatenate the learned features of enhancers and promoters,which pays attention to their potential interaction information.Experimental results on six cell lines indicate that EPIMR performs better than existing methods,with higher area under the precision-recall curve(AUPR)and area under the receiver operating characteristic(AUROC)results on benchmark and under-sampling datasets.Furthermore,our model is pre-trained on all cell lines,which improves not only the transferability of cross-cell line prediction,but also cell line-specific prediction ability.In conclusion,our method serves as a valuable technical tool for predicting enhancer-promoter interactions,contributing to the understanding of gene transcription mechanisms.Our code and results are available at https://github.com/guofei-tju/EPIMR.

文摘The combination of urbanization and global warming leads to urban overheating and compounds the frequency and intensity of extreme heat events due to climate change.Yet,the risk of urban overheating can be mitigated by urban green-blue-grey infrastructure(GBGI),such as parks,wetlands,and engineered greening,which have the potential to effectively reduce summer air temperatures.Despite many reviews,the evidence bases on quantified GBGI cooling benefits remains partial and the practical recommendations for implementation are unclear.This systematic literature review synthesizes the evidence base for heat mitigation and related co-benefits,identifies knowledge gaps,and proposes recommendations for their implementation to maximize their benefits.After screening 27,486 papers,202 were reviewed,based on 51 GBGI types categorized under 10 main divisions.Certain GBGI(green walls,parks,street trees)have been well researched for their urban cooling capabilities.However,several other GBGI have received negligible(zoological garden,golf course,estuary)or minimal(private garden,allotment)attention.The most efficient air cooling was observed in botanical gardens(5.0±3.5℃),wetlands(4.9±3.2℃),green walls(4.1±4.2℃),street trees(3.8±3.1℃),and vegetated balconies(3.8±2.7℃).Under changing climate conditions(2070–2100)with consideration of RCP8.5,there is a shift in climate subtypes,either within the same climate zone(e.g.,Dfa to Dfb and Cfb to Cfa)or across other climate zones(e.g.,Dfb[continental warm-summer humid]to BSk[dry,cold semi-arid]and Cwa[temperate]to Am[tropical]).These shifts may result in lower efficiency for the current GBGI in the future.Given the importance of multiple services,it is crucial to balance their functionality,cooling performance,and other related co-benefits when planning for the future GBGI.This global GBGI heat mitigation inventory can assist policymakers and urban planners in prioritizing effective interventions to reduce the risk of urban overheating,filling research gaps,and promoting community resilience.
