While these dietary shifts are known to influence overall reproductive output, their specific effects on the proportional composition of egg components remain unexplored. To partially simulate the natural conditions, we conducted two trials using adult Japanese Quails (Coturnix japonica) to examine how dietary restriction and unpredictable feeding influence the proportional composition of egg components. In the first trial, quails were assigned to one of four treatments: full-fed (control) or restricted feeding at 20% (DR20), 30% (DR30), and 40% (DR40) below daily intake. In the second trial, quails were assigned to one of three treatments: full feeding (control), constant 40% restriction (DR40), or unpredictable feeding schedule (UNPR). Each trial lasted for 14 days, and birds were housed individually. Severe dietary restrictions (DR30, DR40) reduced albumen and shell mass, shell thickness, and egg volume. However, yolk mass, yolk color, egg shape index, and shell density remained unaffected across all dietary levels. Severe restrictions also increased the yolk ratio while reducing the albumen ratio, suggesting that birds may evolutionarily prioritize yolk deposition to sustain reproductive functions. However, reduced albumen content due to maternal nutritional stress may also limit essential nutrients, and disrupt the embryo's osmoregulation, which ultimately affects offspring quality. Reduced shell contents at the severe restriction levels can affect the egg's ability to provide physical protection, regulate gas exchange and control water loss, thereby influencing embryonic development. In contrast, moderate restriction (DR20) and unpredictable feeding (UNPR) had no effect on any of the egg traits. These findings suggest that quails strategically allocate resources among egg components under dietary constraints, indicating potential trade-offs in reproductive investment. The resilience observed under moderate restriction and unpredictability underscores the species' adaptive capacity in fluctuating environments.展开更多

The digital twin realizes real-time monitoring, analysis and optimization of the state and behavior of a physical object or system by creating a virtual model. Research shows that digital twin technology has extensive application potential in ship design, marine resource development, marine equipment engineering design and optimization, marine ecological protection and early warning of disasters. Although digital twin technology has great potential in marine research, it also faces many challenges, including the complexity of data acquisition and processing, the accuracy and real-time performance of model construction, and the need for multidisciplinary cross-integration. An in-depth analysis of the technical bottlenecks and future development directions will provide an important reference for subsequent research and promote the further application and development of digital twin technology in marine research.展开更多

These distinct features set L. enzymogenes apart from well-studied plant beneficial biocontrol agents, such as Bacillus and Pseudomonas. This review describes what takes L. enzymogenes to be a unique biocontrol warrior by focusing to illustrate how the lack of flagellum governs morphological and functional co-adaptability, what adapted signaling transduction pathways are adopted to coordinate the biosynthesis of HSAF, and how to ecologically adapt plant rhizosphere by cell-to-cell interacting with microbiome members via the bacterial-killing T4SS.展开更多

文摘Under natural conditions, organisms regularly experience seasonal or unpredictable fluctuations in their diet that may shape the quantity and quality of their reproduction. The resilience observed under moderate restriction and unpredictability underscores the species' adaptive capacity in fluctuating environments.

文摘In recent years, with the development of technologies such as the Internet of Things(Io T), big data and cloud computing, digital twin technology has gradually been applied in marine research. An in-depth analysis of the technical bottlenecks and future development directions will provide an important reference for subsequent research and promote the further application and development of digital twin technology in marine research.

文摘Lysobacter enzymogenes is less-studied, but emerging as a powerful biocontrol bacterium producing multiple antimicrobial weapons including lytic enzymes, toxins, secondary metabolites and protein secretion systems. The loss of surface-attached flagellum, production of heat-stable antifungal factor(HSAF, also named as Ningrongmycin) as a novel antifungal antibiotic, and the use of the type Ⅳ secretion system(T4SS) rather than the common type Ⅵ secretion system(T6SS) to kill competitor bacteria make this species unique. These distinct features set L. enzymogenes apart from well-studied plant beneficial biocontrol agents, such as Bacillus and Pseudomonas. This review describes what takes L. enzymogenes to be a unique biocontrol warrior by focusing to illustrate how the lack of flagellum governs morphological and functional co-adaptability, what adapted signaling transduction pathways are adopted to coordinate the biosynthesis of HSAF, and how to ecologically adapt plant rhizosphere by cell-to-cell interacting with microbiome members via the bacterial-killing T4SS.
文摘BACKGROUND To prevent mother to child transmission(MTCT)of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV),sustained maternal viral load suppression(VLS)and early HIV testing among HIV exposed infants(HEI)is critical.AIM To investigate maternal viral load results and infant HIV testing uptake at 6-weeks,and 9-months and 18-months in Rwanda.METHODS Between 2015 and 2022,VLS(<200 copies/mL)was measured among pregnant women living with HIV(WLHIV)from 38-healthcare facilities.Viral loads(VL)were measured at 6-months,12-months and 24-months,respectively.For maternal VL,the unit of analysis was visit-pair,and the pairs were created to define those with VL<200 copies/mL at two consecutive visits as having sustained VLS,persistent viremia(VL≥200 copies/mL at two consecutive visits),viral rebound(VL<200 copies/mL at prior visit only)and newly suppressed(VL<200 copies/mL at subsequent visit only).HEI were considered to have persistent HIV testing if they had all three HIV tests.Poisson regression models with generalized estimating equations were used to estimate the adjusted incidence rate ratio(aIRR)and 95%CI for factors associated with sustained VLS and persistent HIV testing.RESULTS A total of 1145 mother-infant pairs were analyzed.Infant HIV testing uptake at 6-weeks,9-months and 18-months was 1145(100.0%),1089(95.1%),1006(87.9%)respectively.Nine hundred ninety-nine HEI(87.3%)tested for HIV persistently. At 18-months,the incidence of HIV among HEI was 8(0.7%).Of 1145 mothers,1076(94.0%)had≥2 VL results making a total of 2010 visit-pairs(142-single;934-double visit-pairs).The incidence rate of sustained VLS,persistent viremia, viral rebound and new suppression were 91.0%,1.3%,3.6%and 4.0%respectively.Maternal disclosure of HIV status(aIRR=1.08,95%CI:1.02-1.14)was associated with increased likelihood of sustained VLS.Having peer support(aIRR=1.0595%CI:1.01-1.10)was associated with persistent HIV testing among HEI.CONCLUSION Sustained VLS is high among pregnant WLHIV in Rwanda. The low incidence of HIV among HEI may be attributed to high VLS levels.Targeted interventions, including enhanced HIV disclosure and peer support, are crucial for improving sustained VLS and increasing infant HIV testing uptake to reduce MTCT.

文摘Potential interactive effects and trade-offs between drivers can regulate species diversity, affecting distributions by several orders of magnitude and distribution. The decomposition ofβ-diversity into turnover and nestedness could disentangle community assembly rules and offer the opportunity to encompass the processes that structure the communities and maintain theβ-diversity on the campo rupestre. We evaluatedα-andβ-diversity and species conservation status of rocky outcrop communities in the Parque Nacional da Serra do Cipó,as well as the decomposed component of theβ-diversity index.Due to the isolation characteristics of rocky outcrops,we expect to find high taxonomic turnover among the communities. The study was performed on five quartzitic rocky outcrops divided into two sampling stations. We used field expeditions and plant inventory data of shrubs and herbaceous layers. We recorded 286 angiosperms taxa among rocky outcrops of campo rupestre of Serra do Cipó.The structure andα-diversity showed significant differences among rocky outcrops and an evident oligarchic structure in the plant communities analyzed.Taxonomicβ-diversity showed high turnover with a significant contribution of the turnover component to this index. This pattern reflects the interplay between regional and local scale processes. Therefore,we believe this approach becomes a unified framework, which allows the comparison of diversity patterns and ecological processes in rocky outcrops ecosystems. We highlight the high percentage of not evaluated species for threats and the need to fill this lack.
文摘BACKGROUND Cardiac resynchronization therapy(CRT)has been a major therapeutic advancement for patients with heart failure and electrical dyssynchrony. While CRT improves symptoms, reduces hospitalizations, and enhances survival, the role of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators(ICDs)alongside CRT in patients with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy(NICM)remains controversial. To evaluate and compare the outcomes of CRT with ICD(CRT-D)versus CRT with pacemaker-only(CRT-P)in individuals diagnosed with NICM,with a specific focus on the elderly.METHODS A comprehensive search of PubMed,Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials was conducted in January 2024.Studies comparing CRT-D and CRT-P in patients with NICM were included, with subgroup analyses focusing on patients aged 75 years and older.RESULTS Twelve studies, including two randomized clinical trials, with a total of 62,145 patients and 16,754 pooled death events(9,171 in CRT-D and 7,583 in CRT-P),were analyzed.CRT-D was associated with a significantly lower risk of all-cause mortality compared to CRT-P(pooled OR=0.72;95%CI:0.61-0.85;P<0.01),with significant heterogeneity(I2=83%).RCT subgroup analysis, was not statistically significant(pooled OR=0.82;95%CI:0.64-1.06;P=0.41;I2=0%).In patients older than 75 years,no significant difference in mortality risk was observed(pooled OR 0.96;95%CI:0.81-1.15;I2=39%).CONCLUSION Our meta-analysis suggests that the addition of ICD therapy to CRT in patients with NICM significantly reduces all-cause mortality. However, this benefit does not extend to cardiovascular mortality, likely due to the primary role of ICDs in preventing sudden cardiac death rather than other causes such as progressive heart failure. The survival advantage of CRT-D is most pronounced in younger patients, with those over 75 years of age deriving less benefit. This highlights the importance of careful patient selection, considering age and comorbidities, when deciding on ICD implantation in NICM patients.

文摘A detector's nondestructive readout mode allows its pixels to be read multiple times during integration, enabling generation of a series of"up-the-ramp"images that continuously accumulate photons between successive frames.Because noise is correlated across these images, optimal stacking generally requires the images to be weighted unequally to achieve the best possible target signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).Objects in the sky present wildly varied brightness characteristics, and the counts in individual pixels of the same object can also span wide ranges. Therefore,a single set of weights cannot be optimal in all cases. To ensure that the stacked image is easily calibratable,we apply the same weight to all pixels within the same frame. In practice, results for high-SNR cases degraded only slightly when we used weights derived for low-SNR cases, whereas the low-SNR cases remained more sensitive to the weights. Therefore,we propose a quasi-optimal stacking method that maximizes the stacked SNR for the case where the RSN=1 per pixel in the last frame and use simulated data to demonstrate that this approach enhances the SNR more strongly than the equal-weight stacking and ramp fitting methods.Furthermore,we estimate the improvements in the limiting magnitudes for the China Space Station Telescope using the proposed method. When compared with the conventional readout mode, which is equivalent to selecting the last frame from the nondestructive readout, stacking 30 up-the-ramp images can improve the limiting magnitude by approximately 0.5 mag for the telescope's near-infrared observations, effectively reducing readout noise by approximately 62%.

文摘The phenomenon of mud volcanism has a connection with the processes of hydrocarbon generation. However, the genesis of sediments is not often taken into consideration. The study of mud volcanoes in the West Kuban marginal marine basin and the Junggar freshwater basin revealed significant isotope-geochemical differences due to various types of sedimentation. The waters from both basins exhibit three principal geochemical facies:Na-HCO_(3),Na-Cl-HCO_(3),and Na-Cl,of which the latter type of water is the dominant. The analysis of genetic coefficients(Cl/Br,Na/Br,and B/Cl)allowed us to distinguish different pathways of mud volcanic water evolution:evaporite dissolution, formation(sedimentation)waters, and waters formed by active water-rock interaction.Through statistical research,we were able to determine that noticeable variations in the behavior of chemical elements in waters from different areas can reflect discrepancies in the geological environment and the evolutionary stage of the diagenetic water transformation.Using thermodynamic modeling, the main directions of mass transfer were shown. It was established that the waters of the Junggar Basin were at a relatively early stage of evolution and had reached equilibrium only with carbonates, while in the formation waters of the West Kuban Basin, element concentrations were also controlled by silicate minerals. The correlations betweenδ^(18)O andδ~2H values and saturation indices of halides, aluminosilicates, sulfates, and borates confirm the enrichment of water with heavy isotopes during interactions with rocks without evaporation or thermal water partition. These reactions are characterized by clay dehydration and water enrichment with^(18)O and B.The data obtained made it possible to clarify the depths of formation of mud-volcanic fluids and their possible stratigraphic sources.

文摘Geomagnetic data hold significant value in fields such as earthquake monitoring and deep earth exploration. However, the increasing severity of anthropogenic noise contamination in existing geomagnetic observatory data poses substantial challenges to high-precision computational analysis of geomagnetic data.To overcome this problem,we propose a denoising method for geomagnetic data based on the Residual Shrinkage Network(RSN).We construct a sample library of simulated and measured geomagnetic data develop and train the RSN denoising network.Through its unique soft thresholding module,RSN adaptively learns and removes noise from the data, effectively improving data quality. In experiments with noise-added measured data,RSN enhances the quality of the noisy data by approximately 12 dB on average. The proposed method is further validated through denoising analysis on measured data by comparing results of time-domain sequences, multiple square coherence and geomagnetic transfer functions.

文摘Nickel(Ni)toxicity significantly impairs plant growth, photosynthesis, and metabolism by inducing oxidative stress. This study evaluates the potential of exogenous Alpha-Ketoglutarate(AKG)in mitigating Ni-induced stress in Peganum harmala L.Seedlings were exposed to 0,200,500,and 750μM NiCl2,with or without AKG supplementation.Under 750μM Ni stress, dry weight(DW)decreased by 33.7%,tissue water content(TWC)by 39.9%,and chlorophyll a and total chlorophyll levels were reduced by 17%and 15%,respectively.Ni exposure also significantly increased secondary metabolite production, with leaf anthocyanin content rising by 131%,and superoxide dismutase(SOD)and catalase(CAT)activities increasing by 228%and 53%,respectively,in roots at 500μM Ni.AKG treatment alleviated Ni toxicity by enhancing TWC by 39%and promoting root and shoot growth.Additionally,AKG treatment boosted the synthesis of phenolic compounds and flavonoids, contributing to improved tolerance against Ni stress. These findings demonstrate the potential of AKG in enhancing Ni tolerance in P.harmala, suggesting its promising role in bioremediation of metal-contaminated soils. This is the first study to report the beneficial effects of exogenous AKG in alleviating nickel toxicity in P.harmala L.,offering a new approach for improving plant resilience to heavy metal stress.
文摘This research aims to investigate the potential of a plant cellulose developed from Opuntia ficus-indica(OFI)cladode as a sustainable and renewable adsorbent for the removal of neutral red(NR),a cationic dye pollutant, from aqueous environments.Analysis of raw and treated OFI using X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR)demonstrated the successful extraction of type I_(β)cellulose.The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET)analysis of the nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm revealed an improved specific surface area of 12.4 m^(2)/g after treatment.A systematic study of key parameters in batch adsorption experiments revealed removal rates greater than 90%at pH=3,an adsorbent dosage of 3 g/L and an initial dye concentration of 100 mg/L with equilibrium achieved within 2 h.The high correlation coefficient(R^(2)=0.98)obtained with the Langmuir isotherm model suggests that the adsorption behavior is consistent with monolayer surface adsorption.A maximum adsorption capacity(Qm)of 357.1 mg/g for neutral red dye was achieved, demonstrating a significant adsorption capacity relative to other materials such as chitosan-modified activated carbon and halloysite nanotubes. The pseudo-second-order model effectively described the kinetics of the adsorption phenomena.Thermodynamic analysis revealed an exothermic and spontaneous adsorption process, with an enthalpy change(ΔH)of−24.886 kJ/mol,indicative of predominantly physisorption-driven interactions. Moreover, the regenerated cellulose exhibited a retention of over 70%efficiency after multiple adsorption-desorption cycles, highlighting its potential as an excellent reusable adsorbent. The outcomes of this research present an environmentally conscious alternative to synthetic adsorbents, facilitating the effective NR dye removal through renewable and sustainable means.

文摘BACKGROUND Adenomatous polyposis confers an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer.APC and MUTYH are the major genes investigated in patients suspected of having polyposis. In addition to APC and MUTYH genes, other genes, such as POLE,POLD1,NTHL1,MBD4,MSH3 and MLH3,have recently been associated with polyposis phenotypes, conferring heterogeneity in terms of the clinical, etiological and heritable aspects of patients with polyposis.AIM To investigate the underlying variant landscape in patients with suspected polyposis who lack variants in the APC and MUTYH genes using whole-exome sequencing.METHODS Twenty-seven participants were included in the study and subjected to germline whole-exome sequencing. In addition, their clinical-pathological,personal,and family history data were collected.RESULTS The mean age at diagnosis was 51 years, and most participants had attenuated forms of polyposis(88.9%),with 63.0%diagnosed with a primary tumor, mostly colorectal cancer(76.5%).Among the variants identified,17 were classified as pathogenic or likely pathogenic(in 12 participants),including variants in genes involved in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, such as ST7 L,A1CF,and DKK4,and variants in DNA-repair genes, such as NTHL1,PNKP,and PMS2,as well as a variant found at the FRK gene identified in a patient with classic polyposis at age 19 and with a family history of polyps.CONCLUSION This study identified novel genes potentially associated with polyposis in patients lacking germline pathogenic variants in the APC and MUTYH genes. These findings support the use of next-generation sequencing for screening, expanding the scope of polyposis-related variants beyond these two genes.
文摘In this study,Opuntia ficus-indica cladode powder(OFIC),locally sourced from Rabta in Tunis, was utilized as a novel,eco-friendly adsorbent in both raw and iron(III)chloride-modified forms. The presence of iron in the modified material was confirmed by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy(XRF).The neat and modified biomass were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and their usefulness as adsorbent for cationic Neutral Red(NR)and anionic Congo Red(CR)dyes were explored under batch conditions.Equilibrium studies revealed that the iron-modified Fe(OH)_(x)@Cellulose adsorbent exhibited superior adsorption capabilities for both dyes compared to the raw material. Moreover,CR dye was more effectively adsorbed by Fe(OH)_(x)@Cellulose than NR.The adsorption isotherms for both dyes were fitted. The results demonstrated that the adsorption of both NR and CR dyes onto the biosorbent Fe(OH)_(x)@Cellulose was closely followed by the Langmuir model, with R^(2) values of 0.980 and 0.973 for NR and CR,respectively, and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model better depicted the adsorption kinetic.Thermodynamic analysis revealed a negative enthalpy value(−67.15 kJ/mol)forNR adsorption, suggesting an exothermic process, while a positive enthalpy value(3.99 kJ/mol)was observed for CR adsorption, indicating an endothermic process.

文摘The One Health concept acknowledges the importance of multiple dimensions in controlling antimicrobial resistance(AMR).However, our understanding of how anthropological, socioeconomic, and environmental factors drive AMR at a national level remains limited. To explore associations between potential contributing factors and AMR,this study analyzed an extensive database comprising 13 major antibioticresistant bacteria and over 30 predictors(e.g.,air pollution, antibiotic usage, economy, husbandry, public services, health services, education, diet, climate, and population)from 2014 to 2020 across China. The multivariate analysis results indicate that fine particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 μm or less(PM_(2.5))is associated with AMR,accounting for 12%of the variation, followed by residents’income(10.3%)and antibiotic usage density(5.1%).A reduction in PM_(2.5)of 1 μg·m^(-3)is linked to a 0.17%decrease in aggregate antibiotic resistance(p<0.001,R^(2)=0.74).Under different scenarios of China’s PM_(2.5)airquality projections,we further estimated the premature death toll and economic burden derived from PM_(2.5)-related antibiotic resistance in China until 2060.PM_(2.5)-derived AMR is estimated to cause approximately 27000(95%confidence interval(CI):646848830)premature deaths and about 0.51(95%CI;0.12-0.92)million years of life lost annually in China, equivalent to an annual welfare loss of 8.4(95%CI;2.0-15.0)billion USD.Implementing the“Ambitious Pollution 1.5℃ Goals”scenario to reduce PM_(2.5)concentrations could prevent roughly 14000(95%CI;3324-26320)premature deaths—with a potential monetary value of 9.8(95%CI;2.2-17.6)billion USD—from AMR by 2060.These results suggest that reducing air pollution may offer co-benefits in the health and economic sectors by mitigating AMR.

文摘This paper discusses an experimental investigation into the fluidity of AZ91D-1 wt.%Ca O magnesium melt via induction for thin-section investment casting.Plaster molds with thin spiral cavities(0.5 to 1.5 mm square sections)were designed and manufactured to assess the impact of casting conditions on filling length,as magnesium alloys cause severe melting and melt-mold exothermic reactions, making investment casting challenging.Combinations of traditional Mg-mold reaction mitigation techniques, such as applying a protective mold coating(Yttria)and vacuum, were examined to determine their role in the filling process. The results suggest that when induction is employed to melt reactive alloys, these methods are not always beneficial,as initially thought.Particularly at higher melt temperatures, the combination of Yttria-coated molds with low-pressure vacuum induction significantly reduce fluidity:vacuum induced melt levitation which promotes oxidation with the residual atmosphere;and Yttria-coating cracking due to thermal stress during the mold fabrication slows filling and promotes significant melt-mold reaction. This study shows that best results to investment cast thin-sections are obtained by avoiding both vacuum and protective coatings, providing a viable route for the precision manufacturing of stent biomedical devices.

文摘Sulfur-bearing molecules are frequently detected in star-forming regions. The abundance ratio of SO to SO_(2)(hereafter,SO/SO_(2) ratio)has been proposed as a potential evolutionary tracer of star formation because tentative correlations have been found between SO/SO_(2) ratio and evolutionary stages.Nonetheless, the lack of highresolution observations and extensive statistical analyses of large samples raises questions regarding its efficacy as an evolutionary tracer. In this study,we analyze 31 protostellar cores with both SO and SO_(2) detection to investigate the relationship between the SO/SO_(2) ratio and two evolutionary parameters of chemical richness factor and gas temperatures. The correlations between SO/SO_(2) ratio and evolutionary parameters have been found, but these correlations are mainly contributed by low-mass cores rather than high-mass cores. Our findings suggest that the SO/SO_(2) ratio serves as a reliable evolutionary tracer for low-mass dense cores. In high-mass cores, the relationship between the SO/SO_(2) ratio and evolutionary stage remains ambiguous. This likely arises from both vigorous stellar feedback effects and the potential absence of distinct evolutionary stages analogous to those in low-mass cores.Consequently,higher-resolution observations with expanded statistical samples are required to assess the viability of SO/SO_(2) ratio as an evolutionary tracer for high-mass cores.

文摘Tanzania is mainly subject to a bimodal rainfall pattern, characterized by two distinct seasons:the long rains, occurring from March to May,and the short rains, which typically take place from October to December(OND).Short rains are usually less intense but still significantly influence local agriculture. Therefore, with station-based observations and reanalysis data, the current paper examines the interannual variability of OND precipitation in Tanzania from 1993 to 2022 and explores the possible impacts from El Niño–Southern Oscillation(ENSO)and the Indian Ocean Dipole(IOD)as well as the mechanisms. It is found that the Tanzania OND precipitation is above(below)normal in 1997,2006,2011,and 2019(1993,1998,2005,and 2016).The composite difference between wet(dry)years and the climatology indicates that the anomalous lower-level convergence(divergence)and upward(downward)motion are the critical circulation characters for above(below)precipitation.Further analysis indicates ENSO and the IOD are the two main oceanic systems modulating OND precipitation in Tanzania.El Niño and a positive IOD could induce easterly anomalies and weaken the Walker circulation over the Indian Ocean, consequently leading to lower-level convergence in water vapor flux, upward anomalies, and more than normal precipitation in Tanzania. In contrast,La Niña and a negative IOD produce opposite circulation anomalies and less than normal precipitation over Tanzania. Moreover, through partial correlation and Generalized Equilibrium Feedback Analysis, the individual contributions of ENSO and the IOD to circulation are investigated. It is found that although both the IOD and ENSO impact the Walker circulation, the feedback to the IOD is stronger than ENSO.These results provide critical insights into the oceanic drivers and their mechanistic pathways underlying precipitation anomalies in Tanzania.
