Methods: In vitro antimicrobial activities of the ethanolic extracts of C sativa, T. orientalis and P. guajava were tested against MRSA. The presence of bioactive molecules in these three leaves was evaluated using biochemical assays and high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC). Results: Resistance to methicillin, penicillin, oxacillin and cefoxitin was observed in each of the clinical and nonclinical MRSA isolates. However, they were still vulnerable to vancomydn. Used individually, the 50% extract of each plant leaf inhibited MRSA growth. A profound synergism was observed when C sativa was used in combination with T. orientalis (1:1 ) and when P. guajava was used in combination with T. orientalis (1:1 ). This was shown by larger zones of inhibition. This synergism was probably due to the combined inhibitory effect of phenolics present in the leaf extracts (i.e., quercetin and gallic acid) and catechin, as detected by HPTLC. Conclusion: The leaf extracts of C sativa, T. orientalis and P. guajava had potential for the control of both hospital- and community-acquired MRSA. Moreover, the inhibitory effect was enhanced when extracts were used in combination.展开更多

Three different types of water based nanofluids, containing copper, aluminium oxide, and titanium dioxide, are taken into consideration. The effects of the pertinent parameters on the fluid velocity, the temperature, the entropy generation num- ber, the Bejan number, the shear stress, and the heat transfer rate at the sheet surface are graphically and quantitatively discussed in detail. A comparison of the entropy generation due to the heat transfer and the fluid friction is made with the help of the Bejan number. It is observed that the presence of the metallic nanoparticles creates more entropy in the nanofluid flow than in the regular fluid flow.展开更多

The wake structure of the cylinder of square cross-section with attached splitter plates is analyzed for a range of Reynolds number, based on the incident stream and height of the cylinder, in the laminar range. The Navier-Stokes equations governing the flow are solved by the control volume method over a staggered grid arrangement. We have used the semi-implicit method for pressure-linked equation (SIMPLE) algorithm for computation. Our results show that the presence of a splitter plate upstream of the cylinder reduces the drag, but it has a small impact on the vortex shedding frequency when the plate length is beyond 1.5 time the height of the cylinder. The presence of a downstream splitter plate dampens the vortex shedding frequency. The entrainment of fluid into the inner side of the separated shear layers is obstructed by the downstream splitter plate. Our results suggest that by attaching in-line splitter plates both upstream and downstream of the cylinder, the vortex shedding can be suppressed, as well as a reduction in drag be obtained. We made a parametric study to determine the optimal length of these splitter plates so as to achieve low drag and low vortex shedding frequency.展开更多

Herbal medicine has been one of the most popular and reliable healing practices among the different ethnic groups of this region for ages. However, the lack of documentation practice by the traditional healers has led to obscurity regarding the efficacy of herbal medicine among the present generation, though they have to depend on the same quite often. Meanwhile, several reviews have attempted to document the plants used for the treatment of diabetes from this region, but interestingly, very few research works can be obtained regarding the characterization of antidiabetic properties of the plants of this region. Therefore, it demands a better understanding of the potentiality of these plants in the purview of scientific evidence. This review article reports 55 such plant species which have been reported to be frequently used in the treatment of hyperglycemia and our objective was to validate the potentiality of the plants in the light of recent phytochemical and pharmacological researches being carried out Iocallv or elsewhere.展开更多

We have considered two different cases 1) flow due to the impulsive motion of one of the channel walls and 2) flow due to the accelerated motion of one of the channel walls. The governing equations are solved analytically using the Laplace transform technique. It is found that the primary velocity and the magnitude of the secondary velocity increase with an increase in Hall parameter for both the impulsive as well as the accelerated motions of one of the channel walls. An increase in either radiation parameter or frequency parameter leads to decrease in the primary velocity and the magnitude of the secondary velocity for both the impulsive as well as accelerated motions of one of the channel walls. The fluid temperature decreases with an increase in radiation parameter. Further, the shear stresses at the left wall reduce with an increase in either radiation parameter or frequency parameter for both the impulsive as well as the accelerated motions of one of the channel wall.展开更多

The solution of the governing equations has been obtained by the use of Laplace transform technique. It is found that the primary velocity decreases and the magnitude of the secondary velocity increases with an increase in rotation parameter. The fluid velocity components are decelerated by an increase of Reynolds number. An increase in porosity parameter leads to increase the primary velocity and the magnitude of the secondary velocity. It is also found that the solution for small time converges more rapidly than the general solution. The asymptotic behavior of the solution is analyzed for small as well as large values of rotation parameter and Reynolds number. It is observed that a thin boundary layer is formed near the moving plate of the channel and the thicknesses of the boundary layer increases with an increase in porosity parameter.展开更多

文摘Objective To evaluate the antibacterial potential of bioactive compounds from Persicaria hydropiper(L.)(P.hydropiper)against bacterial virulence proteins through molecular docking(MD)and experimental validation. Methods Six bioactive compounds from P.hydropiper were investigated:catechin(CAT1),hyperin(HYP1),ombuin(OMB1),pinosylvin(PSV1),quercetin 3-sulfate(QSF1),and scutellarein(SCR1).Their binding affinities and potential binding pockets were assessed through MD against four bacterial target proteins with Protein Data Bank identifiers(PDB IDs):topoisomerase IV from Escherichia coli(E.coli)(PDB ID:3FV5),Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus)gyrase ATPase binding domain(PDB ID:3U2K),CviR from Chromobacterium violaceum(C.violaceum)(PDB ID:3QP1),and glycosyl hydrolase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa)(PDB ID:5BX9).Molecular dynamics simulations(MDS)were performed on the most promising compound-protein complexes for 50 nanoseconds(ns).Drug-likeness was evaluated using Lipinski's Rule of Five(RO5),followed by absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity(ADMET)analysis using SwissADME and pkCSM web servers.Antibacterial activity was evaluated through disc diffusion assays, testing both individual compounds and combinations with conventional antibiotics[cefotaxime(CTX1,30μg/disc),ceftazidime(CAZ1,30μg/disc),and piperacillin(PIP1,100μg/disc)].Results MD revealed strong binding affinity(ranging from-9.3 to-5.9 kcal/mol)for all compounds, with CAT1 showing exceptional binding to 3QP1(-9.3 kcal/mol)and 5BX9(-8.4 kcal/mol).MDS confirmed the stability of CAT1-protein complexes with binding free energies of-84.71 kJ/mol(5BX9-CAT1)and-95.59 kJ/mol(3QP1-CAT1).Five compounds(CAT1,SCR1,PSV1,OMB1,and QSF1)complied with Lipinski's RO5 and showed favorable ADMET profiles. All compounds were non-carcinogenic,with CAT1 classified in the lowest toxicity class(VI).In antibacterial assays,CAT1 demonstrated significant activity against both gram-positive bacteria[Streptococcus pneumoniae(S.pneumoniae),S.aureus,and Bacillus cereus(B.cereus)][zone diameter of inhibition(ZDI):10-22 mm]and gram-negative bacteria[Acinetobacter baumannii(A.baumannii),E.coli,and P.aeruginosa](ZDI:14-27 mm).Synergistic effects were observed when CAT1 was combined with antibiotics and the growth inhibitory indices(GII)was 0.69-1.00.Conclusion P.hydropiper bioactive compounds, particularly CAT1,show promising antibacterial potential through multiple mechanisms, including direct inhibition of bacterial virulence proteins and synergistic activity with conventional antibiotics. The favorable pharmacological properties and low toxicity profiles support their potential development as therapeutic agents against bacterial infections.
文摘This study focuses on the assessment of ecosystem health(EH),ecosystem services(ES),and ecosystem risk(ER)in East Kolkata Wetland(EKW).A comprehensive framework on the EH,ES and ER has been developed using remote sesning and geo-spatial techniques for the year 2000,2005,2010,2015,and 2020.The study also assessed ecosystem structure and fragmentation using landscape metrics calculated using fragstats, which showed a significant influence of land use and land cover(LULC)changes on the wetland’s ecological integrity. The study revealed that 6.86% of EKW fallen under a very low EH zone, while 20% was categorized as having very high EH.Spatio-temporal analysis of ES indicated that 30%of the area had very low ES value, with only 8% exhibiting very high ES.ER assessment revealed that 7%of the study area was highly ER,while 12%identified within a high ER zone, reflecting frequent LULC changes. The correlation analysis highlighted strong negative relationships between landscape deviation degree(LDD)and EH(−0.971),and between normalized difference water index(NDWI)and normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)(−0.991).Additionally,landscape metrics such as the number of patches(NP)and the largest patch index(LPI)exhibited significant correlations, emphasizing the impact of fragmentation on EH and resilience. This comprehensive assessment underscores the importance of integrated approaches to monitor and manage wetland ecosystems, particularly in urban areas facing significant environmental stressors. The findings are crucial for informed decision-making and sustainable management of the wetland ecosystems, particularly in the cities of the global south.
文摘Hybrid nanofluids have gained significant attention for their superior thermal and rheological characteristics, offering immense potential in energy conversion, biomedical transport, and electromagnetic flow control systems.Understanding their dynamic behavior under coupled magnetic, rotational, and reactive effects is crucial for the development of efficient thermal management technologies. This study develops a neuro-fuzzy computational framework to examine the dynamics of a reactive Cu–TiO_(2)–H_(2)Ohybrid nanofluid flowing through a squarely elevated Riga tunnel. The governing model incorporates Hall and ion-slip effects, thermal radiation, and first-order chemical reactions under ramped thermo-solutal boundary conditions and rotational electromagnetic forces.Closed-form analytical solutions are derived via the Laplace transform method to describe the transient velocity, temperature, and concentration fields. To complement and validate the analytical model,an artificial neural network(ANN)optimized using the Levenberg–Marquardt backpropagation algorithm(ANN-LMBPA)is trained on datasets generated in Mathematica.Regression and error analyses confirm the model’s predictive robustness, with mean squared errors ranging between 10^(-4) and 10^(-9).In addition,an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS)is developed to estimate the heat transfer rate(HTR),achieving aminimal RMSE of 0.011012 for the heat transfer coefficient(HTC).The findings reveal that rotational motion and Hall–ion slip effects suppress primary velocity but enhance secondary flow, while the modified Hartmann number(Lorentz force)accelerates both components.Thermal radiation increases fluid temperature, whereas higher Schmidt numbers and reaction rates diminish solute concentration. The HTR decreases with increasing radiation and nanoparticle volume fraction, while the mass transfer rate(MTR)improves under stronger chemical reactivity.Overall, the proposed hybrid analytical–AI framework demonstrates high accuracy and efficiency, offering valuable insights for the design and optimization of electromagnetic nanofluid systems in advanced thermal and process engineering applications.
文摘Landslide is considered as one of the most severe threats to human life and property in the hilly areas of the world. The number of landslides and the level of damage across the globe has been increasing over time. Therefore, landslide management is essential to maintain the natural and socio-economic dynamics of the hilly region.Rorachu river basin is one of the most landslide-prone areas of the Sikkim selected for the present study. The prime goal of the study is to prepare landslide susceptibility maps(LSMs)using computer-based advanced machine learning techniques and compare the performance of the models. To properly understand the existing spatial relation with the landslide, twenty factors, including triggering and causative factors, were selected.A deep learning algorithm viz.convolutional neural network model(CNN)and three popular machine learning techniques,i.e.,random forest model(RF),artificial neural network model(ANN),and bagging model, were employed to prepare the LSMs.Two separate datasets including training and validation were designed by randomly taken landslide and nonlandslide points.A ratio of 70:30 was considered for the selection of both training and validation points.Multicollinearity was assessed by tolerance and variance inflation factor, and the role of individual conditioning factors was estimated using information gain ratio. The result reveals that there is no severe multicollinearity among the landslide conditioning factors, and the triggering factor rainfall appeared as the leading cause of the landslide.Based on the final prediction values of each model,LSM was constructed and successfully portioned into five distinct classes, like very low, low, moderate, high, and very high susceptibility. The susceptibility class-wise distribution of landslides shows that more than 90%of the landslide area falls under higher landslide susceptibility grades. The precision of models was examined using the area under the curve(AUC)of the receiver operating characteristics(ROC)curve and statistical methods like root mean square error(RMSE)and mean absolute error(MAE).In both datasets(training and validation),the CNN model achieved the maximum AUC value of 0.903 and 0.939,respectively.The lowest value of RMSE and MAE also reveals the better performance of the CNN model. So,it can be concluded that all the models have performed well, but the CNN model has outperformed the other models in terms of precision.

文摘Objective: This study examined the antimicrobial activity of Cannabis sativa, Thuja orientalis and Psidium guajava against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and used a standardized purification protocol to determine the presence and abundance of bioactive compounds in the leaf extracts. Moreover, the inhibitory effect was enhanced when extracts were used in combination.

文摘Given that many cities in Saudi Arabia have been observing rapid urbanization since the 1990s,scarce studies on the spatial pattern of urban expansion in Saudi Arabia have been conducted. Therefore, the present study investigates the evidence of land use and land cover(LULC)dynamics and urban sprawl in Abha City of Saudi Arabia, which has been experiencing rapid urbanization, from the past to the future using novel and sophisticated methods. The SVM classifier was used in this study to classify the LULC maps for 1990,2000,and 2018.The LULC dynamics between 1990–2000,2000–2018,and 1990–2018 have been analyzed using delta()change and the Markovian transitional probability matrix.Urban sprawl or urban expansion was modeled using two approaches, such as landscape fragmentation and presence frequency for the first time. The future LULC map for 2028 was predicted using the artificial neural network-cellular automata model(ANN-CA).Future LULC was analyzed using landscape fragmentation and frequency approaches. The results of LULC maps showed that urban areas increased by 334.4%between 1990 and 2018.The Delta change rate showed that 16.34%in urban areas has increased since 1990.While,the transitional probability matrix between 1990 and 2018 reported that the built-up area is the largest stable LULC,having an 83.6%transitional probability value. While 17.9%,21.8%,12.4%,and 10.5%of agricultural land, scrubland, exposed rocks, and water bodies were transformed into built-up areas.Urban sprawl models showed that 139 km^(2)of new urban areas had been set up in 2018,49 and 69 km^(2)in 1990 and 2000.Furthermore,in 2018,more than 200%of urban areas were stabilized or became core urban areas. The future LULC map(2028)showed that the built-up area would be 343.72 km^(2),followed by scrubland(342.98 km^(2))and sparse vegetation(89.96 km^(2)).The new urban area in 2028 would be 169 km^(2).The authorities and planners should focus more on the sustainable development of urban areas;otherwise,it would harm the natural and urban environment.
文摘The unsteady laminar magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) boundary layer flow and heat transfer of nanofluids over an accelerating convectively heated stretching sheet are numerically studied in the presence of a transverse magnetic field with heat source/sink The unsteady governing equations are solved by a shooting method with the Runge-Kutta- Fehlberg scheme. It is observed that the presence of the metallic nanoparticles creates more entropy in the nanofluid flow than in the regular fluid flow.
文摘In this paper we have made a numerical study on the control of vortex shedding and drag reduction of a cylinder by attaching thin splitter plates. We made a parametric study to determine the optimal length of these splitter plates so as to achieve low drag and low vortex shedding frequency.

文摘Darjeeling and Sikkim Himalayas, a part of Eastern Himalayan Hotspot, is characterized by its richness of plant diversity. This review article reports 55 such plant species which have been reported to be frequently used in the treatment of hyperglycemia and our objective was to validate the potentiality of the plants in the light of recent phytochemical and pharmacological researches being carried out Iocallv or elsewhere.
文摘Rapid urbanization urges the immediate attention of policymakers to ensure sustainable city development.Under-standing the urban growth drivers is essential to address effective strategies for urbanization-related challenges. This work aims to study Raiganj’s urban development and the factors associated with this expansion. This study employed global logistic regression(LR)and geographical weighted logistic regression(GWLR)to explore the role of different factors. The results showed that the role of the central business district(covariate>-1),commercial market(covariate>-3),and police station(covariate>-4)were significant to the development of new built-up areas. In the second period, major roads(covariate>-2)and new infrastructures(covariate>-4)became more relevant, particularly in the eastern and southern areas.GWLR was more accurate in assessing the different fac-tors’impact than LR.The results obtained are essential to understanding urban expansion in India’s medium-class cities, which is critical to effective policies for sustainable urbanization.

文摘The mulberry leaves have been considered as a sole food source for silkworm, Bombyx mori (L.). In present work an attempt was made to investigate the role of low molecular weight peptide(s) isolated from mulberry leaves on silkworm rearing. Also we have tried to find out the role of free-radical scavenging activities of isolated peptide(s) on silkworm growth. Larval growth rate was found effective under the influence of peptide(s). Consumption rate of larvae after peptide(s) treatment on mulberry leaves was significantly enhanced over control. High antioxidant activity was found in Low molecular weight peptide(s) which have an effect on silkworm.
文摘The combined effects of Hall current and radiation on an unsteady MHD free convective flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid in a vertical channel with an oscillatory wall temperature have been studied. Further, the shear stresses at the left wall reduce with an increase in either radiation parameter or frequency parameter for both the impulsive as well as the accelerated motions of one of the channel wall.

文摘Floods are one of nature's most destructive disasters because of the immense damage to land, buildings, and human fatalities. It is difficult to forecast the areas that are vulnerable to flash flooding due to the dynamic and complex nature of the flash floods. Therefore, earlier identification of flash flood susceptible sites can be performed using advanced machine learning models for managing flood disasters. In this study,we applied and assessed two new hybrid ensemble models, namely Dagging and Random Subspace(RS)coupled with Artificial Neural Network(ANN),Random Forest(RF),and Support Vector Machine(SVM)which are the other three state-of-the-art machine learning models for modelling flood susceptibility maps at the Teesta River basin, the northern region of Bangladesh. The application of these models includes twelve flood influencing factors with 413 current and former flooding points, which were transferred in a GIS environment. The information gain ratio, the multicollinearity diagnostics tests were employed to determine the association between the occurrences and flood influential factors. For the validation and the comparison of these models, for the ability to predict the statistical appraisal measures such as Freidman,Wilcoxon signed-rank,and t-paired tests and Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve(ROC)were employed. The value of the Area Under the Curve(AUC)of ROC was above 0.80 for all models. For flood susceptibility modelling, the Dagging model performs superior, followed by RF,the ANN,the SVM,and the RS,then the several benchmark models. The approach and solution-oriented outcomes outlined in this paper will assist state and local authorities as well as policy makers in reducing flood-related threats and will also assist in the implementation of effective mitigation strategies to mitigate future damage.
文摘Background:This paper examines the role of monetary and fiscal factors in interest rate variations in Sri Lanka under its deregulated regime of interest rates. In addition the paper also examines the role of monetary factors in the variation of interest rates, using a quarterly dataset for the post-global recession period, when the exchange rate is determined by market forces. Results:Empirical analysis uses a dataset of nominal interest rates, money growth, income growth, changes in nominal exchange rate, and budget deficit. From the methodological point of view the paper involves vector autoregression model and Wald tests of Granger causality, followed by impulse response analysis while stationarity and the order of integration of the selected variables are confirmed involving the augmented Dickey-Fuller and the Phillips-Perron unit-root tests. Results:The paper confirms that both monetary and fiscal factors have significant effects on the variations of interest rates.Money growth triggers an increase in interest rates, which supports the Fisher equation view, while income growth has a negative impact.Budget deficit causes a rise in interest rates, but the role of the exchange rate is found to be almost insignificant, probably due to including exchange rate series that cover both the pegged and market-based regimes of exchange rates. The second part of the analysis, using a quarterly dataset for the post-global recession period, further establishes the positive impact of M2 money growth and income growth on interest rates. In this case, exchange rate depreciation causes an increase in interest rates. Conclusions:The significant role of monetary and fiscal factors in interest rate variations implies it would be possible to manage interest rates through a judiciary management of monetary and fiscal policies.
文摘Objective:To compare the protective effects of chitosan-trypolyphosphate(CS-TPP) nanoparticle conjugated chloroquine(CQ) with effect of CQ alone on the reversal of splenic damages and induction of apoptosis. Methods:Different researches have been carried out to explore the potential role of chitosan based drug delivery system against parasitic diseases. After successive Plasmodium berghei NK65 parasiste infection by intraperitoneal injection in Swiss mice and subsequent parasite development, the ROS generation,anti-apoptotic and pro apoptotic protein levels in spleen were measured. To analyze caspases, flow cytometry study was performed with annexin 桋-FITC and with PI staining. Results:The results revealed that ROS mediated caspase 3 and 9 activation and the induction of apoptosis occurred during the parasitic infection.However,CS-TPP conjugated CQ was relatively better in reversing the splenic damage compared with similar effects of CQ alone. Conclusions:This study indicates that Plasmodium berghei NK65 induces apoptosis in the spleen. The study further shows that CS-TPP nanoparticles conjugation with CQ have positive influence on the recovery of damaged host's system towards maintenance of normal homeostasis, and this is shown to be selective to CS-TPP conjugated CQ treated animals only.
文摘An investigation has been made on an unsteady Couette flow of a viscous incompressible fluid through a porous me- dium in a rotating system. It is observed that a thin boundary layer is formed near the moving plate of the channel and the thicknesses of the boundary layer increases with an increase in porosity parameter.
文摘Present study raises a serious issue of wetland loss and transformation due to damming and water di-version.At present study,it is noticed that overall rainfall trend(-0.006)of the study period(1978-2015)remains unchanged but riparian wetland area is attenuated after damming both pre monsoon(March to May)and post monsoon season(October to December).Total wetland area in pre-and post-monsoon seasons is respectively reduced from 42.2 km^(2) to 27.87 km^(2),and from 277.85 km^(2) to 220.90 km^(2) in post dam period.Transformation of frequently inundated wetland area into sparsely inundated wetland is mainly triggered by flow modification due to installation of Komardanga dam and Barrage over Punarbhaba and its major tributary Tangon river.Sparsely inundated seasonal wetland area is rapidly reclaimed for agricultural practice. This extreme issue will invite instability in socio-ecological setup of the neighbouring region.
