Bus arrival interval prediction model based on gated recurrent unit network

By analyzing the bus operation environment and accounting for prediction uncertainties,a bus arrival interval prediction model was developed utilizing a gated recur-rent unit(GRU)neural network.To reduce the impact of irrelevant data and boost prediction accuracy,an attention mechanism was integrated into the point model to concen-trate on important input sequence information.Based on the point predictions,the lower upper bound estimation(LUBE)method was used,providing a range for the bus interval times predicted by the model.The model was vali-dated using data from 169 bus routes in Nanchang,Jiangxi Province.The results indicated that the attention-GRU model outperformed neural network,long short-term memory and GRU models.Compared with the Bootstrap method,the LUBE method has a narrower average interval width.The coverage width-based criterion(CWC)was reduced by 8.1%,2.2%,and 5.7%at confidence levels of 85%,90%,and 95%,respectively,during the off-peak period,and by 23.2%,26.9%,and 27.3%at confidence levels of 85%,90%,and 95%,respectively,during the peak period.Therefore,it can accurately describe the fluctuation range in bus arrival times with higher accuracy and stability. 展开更多

Polyethylene glycol(PEG)with different chains was used to modify epoxy asphalt.Molecular models of PEG⁃modified epoxy asphalt were developed using molecu⁃lar simulations(MS).The thermodynamic and mechanical properties of PEG⁃modified epoxy asphalt were analyzed,and its toughening mechanisms were explored.A method based on the Dijkstra algorithm was proposed to evaluate ep⁃oxy asphalt crosslinked networks.The results show that the introduction of PEG chains into epoxy asphalt can lower the glass transition temperature and enhance its toughness be⁃cause of the extended length of the PEG chains,which can in⁃crease the free volume and improve the mobility of the epoxy resin in the epoxy asphalt.The crosslinked network quantita⁃tive evaluation method based on the Dijkstra algorithm can ef⁃fectively evaluate the distribution of epoxy asphalt crosslink⁃ing bonds,providing further explanation of the toughening mechanism of PEG⁃modified epoxy asphalt.The feasibility of designing and screening epoxy asphalt materials by MS is verified,and a guide for toughening mechanism research of epoxy asphalt at the molecular level is provided. 展开更多

Within the domain of low-level vision,enhancing low-light images and removing sand-dust from single images are both critical tasks.These challenges are particularly pronounced in real-world applications such as autonomous driving,surveillance systems,and remote sensing,where adverse lighting and environmental conditions often degrade image quality.Various neural network models,including MLPs,CNNs,GANs,and Transformers,have been proposed to tackle these challenges,with the Vision KAN models showing particular promise.However,existing models,including the Vision KAN models use deterministic neural networks that do not address the uncertainties inherent in these processes.To overcome this,we introduce the Uncertainty-Aware Kolmogorov-Arnold Network(UAKAN),a novel structure that integrates KAN with uncertainty estimation.Our approach uniquely employs Tokenized KANs for sampling within a U-Net architecture’s encoder and decoder layers,enhancing the network’s ability to learn complex representations.Furthermore,for aleatoric uncertainty,we propose an uncertainty coupling certainty module that couples uncertainty distribution learning and residual learning in a feature fusion manner.For epistemic uncertainty,we propose a feature selection mechanism for spatial and pixel dimension uncertainty modeling,which captures and models uncertainty by learning the uncertainty contained between feature maps.Notably,our uncertainty-aware framework enables the model to produce both high-quality enhanced images and reliable uncertainty maps,which are crucial for downstream applications requiring confidence estimation.Through comparative and ablation studies on our synthetic SLLIE6K dataset,designed for low-light enhancement and sand-dust removal,we validate the effectiveness and theoretical robustness of our methodology. 展开更多

With the evolution of next-generation communication networks,ensuring robust Core Network(CN)architecture and data security has become paramount.This paper addresses critical vulnerabilities in the architecture of CN and data security by proposing a novel framework based on blockchain technology that is specifically designed for communication networks.Traditional centralized network architectures are vulnerable to Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS)attacks,particularly in roaming scenarios where there is also a risk of private data leakage,which imposes significant operational demands.To address these issues,we introduce the Blockchain-Enhanced Core Network Architecture(BECNA)and the Secure Decentralized Identity Authentication Scheme(SDIDAS).The BECNA utilizes blockchain technology to decentralize data storage,enhancing network security,stability,and reliability by mitigating Single Points of Failure(SPoF).The SDIDAS utilizes Decentralized Identity(DID)technology to secure user identity data and streamline authentication in roaming scenarios,significantly reducing the risk of data breaches during cross-network transmissions.Our framework employs Ethereum,free5GC,Wireshark,and UERANSIM tools to create a robust,tamper-evident system model.A comprehensive security analysis confirms substantial improvements in user privacy and network security.Simulation results indicate that our approach enhances communication CNs security and reliability,while also ensuring data security. 展开更多

Boundary conditions for the classical solution of the Terzaghi one-dimensional consolidation equation conflict with the equation's initial condition. As such, the classical initial-boundary value problem for the Terzaghi one-dimensional consolidation equation is not well-posed. Moreover, the classical boundary conditions of the equation can only be applied to problems with either perfectly pervious or perfectly impervious boundaries. General boundary conditions are proposed to overcome these shortcomings and thus transfer the solution of the Terzaghi one-dimensional consolidation equation to a well-posed initial boundary value problem. The solution for proposed general boundary conditions is validated by comparing it to the classical solution. The actual field drainage conditions can be simulated by adjusting the values of parameters b and c given in the proposed general botmdary conditions. For relatively high coefficient of consolidation, just one term in series expansions is enough to obtain results with acceptable accuracy. 展开更多

Open-graded friction course(OGFC) is applied to pavement surfaces to increase driving safety under wet conditions, and recently, to reduce tire/pavement noise. The durability of OGFC, however, has been a concern since conventional OGFC mixes last typically less than ten years before major maintenance or rehabilitation is needed. This work investigates a new open-graded asphalt mixture that uses epoxy asphalt as binder to improve mix durability. One type of epoxy asphalt that has been successfully applied to dense-graded asphalt concrete for bridge deck paving was selected. A procedure of compacting the mix into slab specimens was developed and a series of laboratory tests were conducted to evaluate the performance of the new mix, including Cantabro loss, permeability, friction, shear strength, and wheel rutting tests. Results show superior overall performance of the open-graded epoxy asphalt mix compared to conventional open-graded asphalt mix. There are also preliminary indications that the OGFC mix with 4.75-mm NMAS gradation can improve the resistance performance to raveling, while the OGFC mix with 9.5-mm NMAS gradation can improve the performance of surface friction at a high slip speed. 展开更多

A three dimensional finite element program incorporating actually measured vertical tire-pavement contact pressure(TPCP) was utilized for modeling the mechanistic responses in asphalt concrete(AC) layers by simulating various vehicle motions:stationary and non-stationary(i.e.in acceleration or deceleration mode).Analysis of the results indicated the following items.1) It is critical to use the vertical TPCP as the design control criteria for the tensile strains at the bottom of the AC layer when the base layer modulus is lower in magnitude(e.g.≤400 MPa);however,when the base layer modulus is higher in magnitude(e.g.≥7 000 MPa),the horizontal TPCP and the tensile strains in the X-direction at the surface of the AC layer should also be considered as part of the design response criteria.2) The definition of "overload" needs to be revised to include tire pressure over-inflation,i.e.,a vehicle should be considered to be overloaded if the wheel load exceeds the specification and/or the tire inflation pressure is higher than the specification.3) Light trucks have more structural impact on the strain responses and pavement design when the thickness of the surfacing AC layer is thinner(e.g.≤50 mm).4) The acceleration of a vehicle does not significantly impact the AC surface distresses such as rutting at the top of the upgrade slopes or intersections;however,vehicle deceleration can dramatically induce horizontal shear strains and consequently,aggravate shoving and rutting problems at the highway intersections.Evidently,these factors should be taken into account during mechanistic stress-strain modeling and structural design of asphalt pavements. 展开更多

Crack is found to be a major distress that affects the performance of the epoxy asphalt pavement.An extended finite element method was proposed for investigating the fracture properties of the epoxy asphalt mixture.Firstly,the single-edge notched beam test was used to analyze the temperature effect and calculate the material parameters.Then,the mechanical responses were studied using numerical analysis.It is concluded that 5℃ can be selected as the critical temperature that affects the fracture properties,and numerical simulations indicate that crack propagation is found to significantly affect the stress state of the epoxy asphalt mixture.The maximum principal stress at the crack surface exhibits different trends at various temperatures.Numerical solution of stress intensity factor can well meet the theoretical solution,especially when the temperature is lower than 5℃. 展开更多

Traffic flow prediction is an important component for real-time traffic-adaptive signal control in urban arterial networks.By exploring available detector and signal controller information from neighboring intersections,a dynamic data-driven flow prediction model was developed.The model consists of two prediction components based on the signal states(red or green) for each movement at an upstream intersection.The characteristics of each signal state were carefully examined and the corresponding travel time from the upstream intersection to the approach in question at the downstream intersection was predicted.With an online turning proportion estimation method,along with the predicted travel times,the anticipated vehicle arrivals can be forecasted at the downstream intersection.The model performance was tested at a set of two signalized intersections located in the city of Gainesville,Florida,USA,using the CORSIM microscopic simulation package.Analysis results show that the model agrees well with empirical arrival data measured at 10 s intervals within an acceptable range of 10%-20%,and show a normal distribution.It is reasonably believed that the model has potential applicability for use in truly proactive real-time traffic adaptive signal control systems. 展开更多

To clarify the importance of various influencing factors on asphalt pavement rutting deformation and determine a screening method of model indicators,the data of the RIOHTrack full-scale track were examined using the factor analysis method(FAM).Taking the standard test pavement structure of RIOHTrack as an example,four rutting influencing factors from different aspects were determined through statistical analysis.Furthermore,the common influencing factors among the rutting influencing factors were studied based on FAM.Results show that the common factor can well characterize accumulative ESALs,center-point deflection,and temperature,besides humidity,which indicates that these three influencing factors can have an important impact on rutting.Moreover,an empirical rutting prediction model was established based on the selected influencing factors,which proved to exhibit high prediction accuracy.These analysis results demonstrate that the FAM is an effective screening method for rutting prediction model indicators,which provides a reference for the selection of independent model indicators in other rutting prediction model research when used in other areas and is of great significance for the prediction and control of rutting distress. 展开更多

In order to study the sliding characteristics when the cable is connected with the other rods in the transmission line structures,a linear sliding cable element based on updated Lagrangian formulation and a sliding catenary element considering the out-of-plane stiffness coefficient are put forward.A two-span and a three-span cable structures are taken as examples to verify the sliding cable elements.By comparing the tensions of the two proposed cable elements with the existing research results,the error is less than 1%,which proves the correctness of the proposed elements.The sliding characteristics should be considered in the practical engineering because of the significant difference between the tensions of sliding cable elements and those of cable element without considering sliding.The out-of-plane stiffness coefficient and friction characteristics do not obviously affect the cable tensions. 展开更多

Dynamic response analysis of damper connected adjacent multi-story structures with uncertain parameters is carried out.A formula of the multi degree of freedom(MDOF) for the structure-damper system with stochastic parameters is derived.The uncertainties of mass and stiffness are taken into consideration firstly.The ground acceleration is represented by Kanai-Tajimi filtered non-stationary process.The mean square random responses of structural displacement and story drift are chosen as the optimization objective.The variations of mean square responses of top floor displacements and bottom story drifts in neighboring structures with the damper stiffness and damping coefficient are analyzed in detail.Through the parametric study,the acquiring optimum parameters of damper are regarded as numerical results.Then,a reducing order model of the MDOF system for adjacent structures with mean parameters is presented.The explicit expressions for determining optimal parameters of Kelvin model-defined damper which is used to connect adjacent single degree of freedom(SDOF) structures subjected to a white-noise excitation are employed to achieve the appropriate damper parameters,which are called theory results.Through a comparative study,it can be found that the theory values of damper parameters are consistent with the results based on extensive parametric studies.The analytical results can be obtained by using the first natural frequencies and the total mass of the adjacent deterministic structures with mean parameters.The analytical formulas can be used to find appropriate parameters of damper between adjacent structures for engineering applications.The performance of damper is investigated on the basis of mitigations of mean square random responses of inter-story drifts,displacements and accelerations in adjacent structures.The numerical results demonstrate the robustness of coupled building control strategies. 展开更多

In this study,after determination of the optimal values of the effective parameters in the synthesis using experimental design software,tablet-shaped potato starch aerogels were synthesized at the optimal condition in order to be used as a drug carrier.The celecoxib,as the model drug,was loaded into the aerogel matrix during the solvent exchange step.FTIR(Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy),FESEM and HRTEM(Transmission Electron Microscopy)analyses showed that celecoxib has been successfully loaded into aerogel matrix.Also,XRD analysis showed that most of the celecoxib has been loaded in amorphous form.In vitro studies were performed in both simulated gastric and intestinal fluids.The release kinetics showed that the loaded celecoxib dissolved faster than crystalline celecoxib.At rotational speed of 100 r·min^-1,about 26%and 50%and at rotational speed of 50 r·min^-1,about 20%and 42%drug was released during the first 30 min of soaking in the simulated gastric fluid and simulated intestinal fluid,respectively.The release of the mentioned drug was increased up to 60%and 98%at a rotational speed of 100 r·min^-1 and up to 46%and 93%at a rotational speed of 50 r·min^-1 at the end of 5 h in the simulated gastric fluid and simulated intestinal fluid,respectively.It could be concluded that potato starch aerogels can be very useful in many drug delivery applications along with conventional micronization techniques.Modeling of release data showed that the release kinetics follows the Korsmeyer Peppas model,which considers phenomena of matrix erosion and drug diffusion. 展开更多

A moisture-content based constitutive model was proposed based on the hyperbolic model as an attempt to move towards the implementation of unsaturated soil mechanics into routine geotechnical engineering practice. The stress-strain behavior of in-situ soil at a depth of 5 m was investigated by conducting undrained triaxial compression tests using the remolded soil samples. The test results show that the stress-strain relationship of unsaturated cohesive soil is still hyperbolic. The values of parameters a and b given in the model decrease with increasing the confining pressure for soil samples with the same moisture content and increase with increasing the moisture content for soil samples under the same confining pressure. The relationships between parameters a, b and moisture content were studied for confining pressures of 100, 150, 200 and 250 kPa. The comparison between the measured and predicted stress-strain curves for an additional group of soil samples, having a moisture content of 25.4%, shows that the proposed moisture content-dependent hyperbolic model provides a good prediction of stress-strain behavior of unsaturated cohesive soil. 展开更多

To investigate the environmental impacts of steel deck pavement through the whole life cycle,the steel deck pavement was divided into five stages:raw materials production,asphalt mixture mixing,pavement construction,operation management,and pavement removing stage.Based on the process-based life cycle assessment(PLCA)method,the calculation methods of energy consumption and gas emissions of two typical steel deck pavement systems(EA+EA pavement and GA+SMA pavement)were determined.The data lists of two pavements were analyzed,and the calculation model was built.Four characteristic indices including primary energy demand(PED),global warming potential(GWP),acidification potential(AP)and respiratory inorganics(RI)were used to quantify the environmental impacts of two pavements.The results show that the environmental impact of the GA+SMA pavement is more than 1.3 times that of the EA+EA pavement.Moreover,the critical stage of energy-saving and emission-reduction of EA+EA pavement and GA+SMA pavement are the raw material production stage and asphalt mixture mixing stage,respectively. 展开更多

A practical approach for predicting the congestion boundary due to traffic incidents was proposed. Based on the kinematic wave theory and Van Aerde single-regime flow model, a model for estimating the congestion propagation speed for the basic road segment was developed. Historical traffic flow data were used to analyze the time variant characteristics of the urban traffic flow for each road type. Then, the saturation flow rate was used for analyzing the impact of the traffic incident on the traversing traffic flow at the congestion area. The base congestion propagation speed for each road type was calculated based on field data, which were provided by the remote traffic microwave sensors(RTMS), floating car data(FCD) system and screen line survey. According to a comparative analysis of the congestion propagation speed, it is found that the expressway, major arterial, minor arterial and collector are decreasingly influenced by the traffic incident. Subsequently, the impact of turning movements at intersections on the congestion propagation was considered. The turning ratio was adopted to represent the impact of turning movements, and afterward the corresponding propagation pattern at intersections was analyzed. Finally, an implementation system was designed on a geographic information system(GIS) platform to display the characteristics of the congestion propagation over the network. The validation results show that the proposed approach is able to capture the congestion propagation properties in the actual road network. 展开更多

To explore the potential capacity of dual-fight-turn lanes at signalized intersections under mixed traffic conditions, we defined two conflict zones between right turn vehicles and through bicycle corresponding to different right turn flows from dual-right-turn lanes. Relationships between the arrival rate of bicycle group at each conflict zone and the saturation flow rate of right turn movement were investigated. A model based on gap acceptance theory was adopted to estimate the capacity of dual-right-turn lanes under mixed traffic conditions. An analysis was carried out using the collected data from three four-leg signalized intersections in Beijing, China, where the dual-right-turn lanes were used. In addition, we also discussed the patterns of bicycle lane in the urban area of Beijing, and classified it based on its characteristics in use. It is concluded that the two lanes of dual-fight-turn lanes produce different capacities under mixed traffic conditions, and the analysis on scenarios of dual-right-turn movement traversing bicycle traffic plays a key role in explaining the different capacity performance of the two right turn lanes. Error analysis of the model indicated that the model was rational. 展开更多

The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the effects of asphalt concrete types on the microstructural characteristics at high-temperature. Suspend-dense structure and Skeleton-dense structure were selected to investigate the deformation of pavement at meso-scale. The internal microstructures of typical asphalt concretes, AC, SUP and SMA, were scanned by X-ray CT device, and microstructural changes before and after high-temperature damage were researched by digital image processing. Adaptive threshold segmentation algorithm(ATSA) based on image radius was developed and utilized to obtain the binary images of aggregates, air-voids and asphalt mastic. Then the shape and distribution of air-voids and aggregates were analyzed. The results show that the ATSA can distinguish the target and background effectively. Gradation and coarse aggregate size of asphalt mixtures have an obvious influence on the distribution of air-voids. The movements of aggregate particles are complex and aggregates with elliptic sharp show great rotation. The effect of gradation on microstructure during high-temperature damage promotes the research about the failure mechanism of asphalt concrete pavement. 展开更多

To enhance the serviceability of steel bridge deck pavement(SBDP)in high-temperature and rainy regions,a concept of rigid bottom and flexible top was summarized using engineering practices,which led to the proposal of a three-layer ultra-high-performance pavement(UHPP).The high-temperature rutting resistance and wet-weather skid resistance of UHPP were evaluated through composite structure tests.The internal temperature distribution within the pavement under typical high-temperature conditions was analyzed using a temperature field model.Additionally,a temperature-stress coupling model was employed to investigate the key load positions and stress response characteristics of the UHPP.The results indicate that compared with the traditional guss asphalt+stone mastic asphalt structure,the dynamic stability of the UHPP composite structure can be improved by up to 20.4%.Even under cyclic loading,UHPP still exhibits superior surface skid resistance compared to two traditional SBDPs.The thickness composition of UHPP significantly impacts its rutting resistance and skid resistance.UHPP exhibits relatively low tensile stress but higher shear stress levels,with the highest shear stress occurring between the UHPP and the steel plate.This suggests that the potential risk of damage for UHPP primarily lies within the interlayer of the pavement.Based on engineering examples,introducing interlayer gravel and optimizing the amount of bonding layer are advised to ensure that UHPP possesses sufficient interlayer shear resistance. 展开更多
