A Simplified Model for Vibration Analysis of Diesel Engine Crankshaft System

A spatial finite element model for vibration analysis of crankshaft system was proposed. The crankshaft body was simplified as spatial rigid frame by using beam elements based on Timoshenko beam theory. The main bearings in system were simplified as linear springs and dashpots. The natural frequencies of the crankshaft system of a four in-line cylinder engine were calculated and compared with the analytical and experimental values available in other publications. In order to simulate the motion of operating crankshaft system, the gas forces, rotating masses and reciprocating masses were considered, the crankshaft and main bearings were coupled in a rotating coordinate system, and a dynamic model for vibration analysis of crankshaft system was established. By applying the dynamic model, the influence of the mass and moment of inertia of front pulley on the behavior of crankshaft vibration was investigated. 展开更多

Two special cases of unsteady pipe flow were expressed. The first is start-up flow, and the second is oscillating flow. The exact solution of start-up flow under a constant pressure gradient was obtained by using the theories of Laplace transform and Fourier-Bessel series for fractional derivatives. The exact solution of oscillating flow was obtained by utilizing the separation of variables. 展开更多

By the wavelet transform, the time frequency properties of the cracked rotor and the uncracked rotor were discussed, the difference of the time frequency properties between the cracked rotor and the uncracked rotor was compared. A new detection algorithm using wavelet transform to identify crack was proposed. The experiments verify the availability and validity of the wavelet transform in identification of crack. 展开更多

Multisource unstable impulsive excitations, time varying transmission path, concentrated mode, dispersion and reverberation that are important characteristics of reciprocating machines such as diesel engines result in wide band non stationary vibroacoustic responses which influence the effective extraction of vibroacoustic signatures and become a key factor to limit diesel engines’ vibration diagnosis. In this paper, a serial theoretical deduction on the unstable dynamic properties of diesel engines was made; the mechanism of non stationary vibroacoustic responses was elucidated. Based upon that, the wavelet packet technique was introduced. The reason for the existence of frequency aliasing in the Paley series from wavelet packets’ decomposition was analyzed, and the wavelet packet frequency shifting algorithm was given. Experiments on 190 serial diesel engines verify the given method’s significant validity in vibroacoustic signature extraction and reciprocating machines’ vibration diagnosis. 展开更多

The second order statistics for cyclostationary signals were introduced, and their performance were discussed. It especially researched the time lag characteristic of the cyclic autocorrelation function and spectral correlation characteristic of spectral correlation density function. It was pointed out that those functions can be available to extract the time vary information of the kind of non stationary signals. Using the relations of time lag cyclic frequency and frequency cyclic frequency independently, vibration signals of a rolling element bearing measured on test bed were analyzed. The results indicate that the second order cyclostationary statistics might provide a powerful tool for the feature extracting and fault diagnosis of rolling element bearing. 展开更多

The vibration signals of rolling element bearing are produced by a combination of periodic and random processes due to the machine’s rotation cycle and interaction with the real world. The combination of such components can give rise to signals, which have periodically time-varying ensemble statistical and are best considered as cyclostationary. When the early fault occurs, the background noise is very heavy, it is difficult to disclose the latent periodic components successfully using cyclostationary analysis alone. In this paper the degree of cyclostationarity is combined with wavelet filtering for detection of rolling element bearing early faults. Using the proposed entropy minimization rule. The parameters of the wavelet filter are optimized. This method is shown to be effective in detecting rolling element bearing early fault when cyclostationary analysis by itself fails. 展开更多

On the basis of the piezoelectric theory, Mindlin plate theory, viscoelastic theory and ideal fluid equation, the finite element modeling of a fluid-filled cylindrical shell with active constrained layer damping (ACLD) was discussed. Energy methods and Lagrange’s equation were used to obtain dynamic equations of the cylindrical shell with ACLD treatments, which was modeled as well with the finite element method. The GHM (Golla-Hughes-McTavish) method was applied to model the frequency dependent damping of viscoelastic material. Ideal and incompressible fluid was considered to establish the dynamic equations of the fluid-filled cylindrical shell with ACLD treatments, Numerical results obtained from the finite element analysis were compared with those from an experiment. The comparison shows that the proposed modeling method is accurate and reliable. 展开更多

In the complex mechanical vibration environment, the dominant frequency of the system varies remarkably and swiftly under various running conditions, which also characterizes uncertainty and time-variation. It is very impending and important to suppress or isolate the detrimental vibrations related to the above memtoned system with active vibration control (AVC) technology. This paper presented the improved linear quadratic gaussian (LQG) control scheme with a specified filter to realize broadband disturbance/noise attenuation and assure intensive suppression of vibration at the key vibration frequency, then applies and modifies the multiple model switching tuning (MMST) control method by disturbance observation to track the variation of dominant vibration component timely. The effectiveness and superiority of the presented control method were demonstrated by numerical simulation and AVC experiment on a flexible cantilever beam under sweeping excitation. 展开更多
