On April 8, 2016, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched a payload from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida USA and the first stage rocket returned to earth onto a floating drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean [1 ]. This was only the second time an orbital class rocket achieved a successful touchdown. The first time was December 21, 2015, when a Falcon 9 was launched from Cape Canaveral and returned to the launching pad [2] (Fig. 1). In the past, first stage rockets were designed to burn up on reentry. These recovery operations represent impressive achievements in guidance, navigation, and control, and provided some spectacular long range video [1-3] and still pictures of the barge landing from the perspective of the barge [4]. 展开更多

The goal was to recover the booster for reuse, to reduce cost for subsequent launches, and it was only the second time a Falcon 9 booster was successfully recovered. Video of the booster landing on the ship was striking and demonstrated that recovery was possible at convenient points other than the launch site where the first recovery was achieved. 展开更多

On Saturday September 3, 2016, on the eve of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, China, the US, following earlier negotiations with China, agreed to join the Paris Agreement on climate change reached in December 2015 [1,2], joining the prior commitment made by China. In order to go into force, the agreement required ratification by 55 countries representing 55% of global emissions. With the agreement on the part of China and the US, representing together 38% of global emissions, obstacles on the path to ratification were markedly reduced. There has been an ... Compared to inward foreign direct investment, outward foreign direct investment (OFD1) from China is a relatively new phenomenon. However, the volume of China's OFDI increased rapidly from 2004. There has been an increasing amount of literature on the motivations of China's OFD1, but few studies have focused on its location determinants. The present paper aims to fill this gap in the literature by focusing on two important location.factors, natural resources and technology, which are the most important determinants of China's OFDI. We use a large panel dataset comprising 132 countries over the period 1991-2009 and the Tobit as well as the Heckman models to establish the relationship between the two location factors and China's OFD1. The empirical results suggest that although China "s OFD! has been driven by the country's desire for a secure supply of natural resources and to attain advanced technology from the developed world, China's technology is also a critical attraction for the host developing economies. 展开更多
