Purpose–This study summarizes the overall situation of the resources of the national science and technology innovation platform in the railway industry,including the distribution of platform types,supporting institutions,construction sites,professional fields,etc.,to provide a reference for the further improvement and optimization of the national science and technology innovation platform system in the railway industry.Design/methodology/approach–Through literature review,field investigation,expert consultation and other methods,this paper systematically investigates and analyzes the development status of the national science and technology innovation platform in the railway industry.Findings–Taking the national science and technology innovation platform of the railway industry as the research object,this paper investigates and analyzes the construction,development and distribution of the national science and technology innovation platform of railway industry over the years.And the National Engineering Research Center of High-speed Railway and Urban Rail Transit System Technology was taken as an example to introduce its operation effect.Originality/value–China Railway has made great development achievements,with the construction and development of national science and technology innovation platform in the railway industry.In recent years,a large number of national science and technology innovation platforms have been built in the railway industry,which play an important role in railway technological innovation,standard setting and commodification,and Railway Sciences provide strong support for railway technology development. 展开更多

Background:The advent of the self-media age,digital humanities,and artificial intelligence(AI)technologies is gradually reshaping the narrative frameworks of the history of science and technology in general and the history of medicine in particular,as it transforms the specific shape of contemporary medical science and health communication practice with the help of interactive,scenario-based communication ecosystems.Methods:This paper focuses on the interactive relationship between the history of science and science communication,employing historical tracing and case study comparison as research methods to explore the pathways and innovative models for reintegrating the history of science and technology including the history of medicine into contemporary scientific discourse.Results:The study finds that in the Chinese context,three key pathways facilitate the engagement of the history of science and technology including the history of medicine in science communication:administrative intervention,value reconstruction,and personalized adaptation.Specifically,administrative intervention promotes the integration of the history of science education into talent development through policy design;value reconstruction,centered on the scientific spirit,enhances societal cultural recognition of technological progress;and personalized adaptation leverages big data and social media technologies to enable precise and tailored knowledge dissemination.Conclusion:The rise of the“web-based knowledge brokering model”in the era of social media has introduced professional knowledge brokers,ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of science communication.These innovations not only serve as decision-making simulation tools for medical science and health communication,linking historical insights with contemporary practice,but also provide theoretical foundations and practical paradigms for realizing the value of the history of science and technology in the digital era. 展开更多

As a tool for human communication,the use of language is affected by the way of thinking in cross-cultural communication.Due to the differences between Chinese and Western cultures,the way of thinking varies under the influence of such cultural differences.In the process of translation,the influence of the different thinking mode on translation activities cannot be ignored.At present,a lot of studies and researches have focused on the influence of Chinese and Western thinking mode on translation.However,it is still worthwhile to study what specific influence the difference between Chinese and Western thinking mode will exert on the translation process of science texts and what kind of measure should be taken to solve the negative influence brought by the differences when we are translating.This paper aims to discuss the influence of thinking differences between Chinese and Western countries on the process of English-Chinese translation of science and technology from the perspectives of long sentences,passive voice and nominalization,and how the translators should appropriately adjust their thinking pattern and use reasonable skills to eliminate the potential negative interference caused by the difference and achieve a better transformation between English and Chinese. 展开更多

Additive manufacturing(AM)technology enables the creation of a wide variety of assemblies and complex shapes from three-dimensional model data in a bottom-up,layer-by-layer manner.Therefore,AM has revolutionized the modern manufacturing industry,attracting increasing interest from both academic and industrial fields.The Rapid Manufacturing Center(RMC)of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Huazhong Univer-sity of Science and Technology(HUST),one of the earliest and most powerful AM research teams in China,has been engaged in AM research since 1991.Aiming to address the“stuck neck”problems of specific high-strength products for AM,the RMC has conducted full-chain research in the aspects of special materials,processes,equip-ment,and applications for AM.Moreover,it has formed a multi-disciplinary research team over the past three decades.Relevant research achievements in the AM field include winning five national awards,more than ten first prizes,and more than ten second prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels.The RMC was complimented as“the world’s most influential organization in the laser AM field in 2018”by Virtual and Physical Prototyping(an international authoritative magazine of AM).Moreover,their industrialization achievements were evaluated as“having affected countries such as Singapore,South Korea,and the United States”by an international author-itative Wohlers Report on AM.In this study,we first summarize the representative research achievements of the RMC in the AM field.These include the preparation and processing technology of high-performance polymeric,metallic,and ceramic materials for AM;advanced processing technology and software/equipment for AM;and typical AM-fabricated products and their applications.Further,we discuss the latest research achievements in cutting-edge 4D printing in terms of feedstock selection,printing processes,induction strategies,and potential ap-plications.Finally,we provide insights into the future directions of AM technology development:(ⅰ)Evolving from three-dimensional printing to multi-dimensional printing,(ⅱ)transitioning from plane slicing to curved surface slicing to woven slicing,(ⅲ)enhancing efficient formation from dot-line-sheet-volume printing,(ⅳ)shifting from single material to multi-materials AM,(ⅴ)advancing from the multiscale direction of macroscopic-mesoscopic-microscopic structures,(ⅵ)integrating material preparation with forming integration,(ⅶ)expanding from small batch to large batch. 展开更多

Introduction: WHO estimated that uncorrected refractive errors are the leading cause of visual impairment and second leading cause of blindness globally. University students are prone to developing refractive errors due to their curriculum that requires a lot of near work affecting their performance and quality of life unknowingly. Genetic and environmental factors are thought to play a role in the development of refractive errors. This study addresses the paucity of knowledge about refractive errors among university students in East Africa, providing a foundation for further research. Objectives: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with refractive errors among students in the Faculty of Medicine at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study in which 368 undergraduate students selected using random sampling were assessed for refractive errors from March 2021-July 2021. Eligible participants were recruited and their VA assessment done after answering a questionnaire. Students whose VA improved on pin hole had subjective retinoscopy and results were compiled and imported to STATA 14 for analysis. Results: The prevalence of refractive errors was 26.36% with (95% CI) among university students especially myopia. Myopia is most predominant at 60%, followed by 37% Astigmatism and hyperopia of 3% among medical students. Astigmatism consisted of largely myopic astigmatism 72% (26) and 28% (10) compound/mixed astigmatism only. Student positive family history of refractive error was found to have a statistically significant relationship with refractive errors with AOR 1.68 (1.04 - 2.72) (95% CI) and P (0.032). Conclusion: The prevalence of refractive errors among university students, especially myopia, was found to be high and family history was associated with students having refractive errors. 展开更多

Recently we are witnessing the boom of high-pressure science and technology from a small niche field to becoming a major dimension in physical sciences.One of the most important technological advances is the integration of synchrotron nanotechnology with the minute samples at ultrahigh pressures.Applications of high pressure have greatly enhanced our understanding of the electronic,phonon,and doping effects on the newly emerged graphene and related 2D layered materials.High pressure has created exotic stoichiometry even in common Group 17,15,and 14 compounds and drastically altered the basic σ and π bonding of organic compounds.Differential pressure measurements enable us to study the rheology and flow of mantle minerals in solid state,thus quantitatively constraining the geodynamics.They also introduce a new approach to understand defect and plastic deformations of nano particles.These examples open new frontiers of high-pressure research. 展开更多

Aims and objective:This study focuses on the status quo and development trend of nursing research in our country to provide a reference for nursing research workers and improve the development of nursing research in China.Methods:The official website of the Chinese Nursing Association was searched to obtain the total number,category,geographical distribution,and job of project leaders of winning projects of the Chinese Nursing Association Technology Award.Findings were analyzed using webometrics and content analysis approach to understand the“study hotspots,”“study level,”and“development trend”of nursing research in China.Results:The total number of winning projects was 144.Among them,the number of first,second,and third prizes were 8,36,and 100,respectively.Beijing is the area with the largest number of winners(21),followed by Shanghai(17)and Jiangsu(13).Among the winning projects,the top 3 research areas were specialty nursing,nursing management,and nursing education,with percentages of 50%,27%,and 18%,respectively.Among the 144 project leaders,96% were academic or hospital directors and only 4% were ordinary staff.Conclusions:The geographical distribution of winning projects presented a regional concentration trend.The categories of winning projects are diverse,and our country has made great achievements in every category,particularly in specialty nursing.Most of the project leaders were academic or hospital directors.The stumbling block to nursing research is the lack of high-quality research projects with international influence.Future research should learn from the experiences of developed countries,focus on the in-depth refinement of specialty nursing,and highlight the importance of collaboration to coordinate and promote nursing development in all regions. 展开更多

Due to the differences in disciplines and regional cultural spirits,the campus landscape of Chinese universities has varying cultural connotations.Campus landscape is not only a reflection of regional school history and culture,but also a potential factor affecting students'ideology and values.At present,some colleges and universities in China only concern and consider the visual impact effect of campus landscape construction,while others take landscape planning and construction as an accessory of the main building,which seriously affects the soul guiding role of campus culture in campus landscape.The internal and external landscape pattern of Henan University of Science and Technology with landscape road and water system as the framework,as well as core scenic spots with rich cultural connotations,such as“Peony Dinghu map”,“Yueqin Lake”,embody the university history and culture,the characteristics of western Henan architecture and the specific campus culture positioning,providing a stark example for landscape planning and design of other colleges and universities in the future. 展开更多

The Special Class for the Gifted Young(SCGY) is an educational model created by the University of Science and Technology of China(USTC) during a special historical period. It aims at selecting and cultivating young talent in the natural sciences. Significantly, the establishment of the SCGY in 1978 marked the beginning of higher education reform in China after the ‘Cultural Revolution’(1966–1976) and promoted the development of education. Currently, there are only a few general descriptions of how the SCGY was established. In research for this paper, we used many sources, including archives, personal diaries and interview records, to uncover the process leading to the establishment of the SCGY.
