It has gradually become a relatively mature discipline. During the period 1930– 1980, the development of transportation geography consisted mainly of the publication of theoretical texts. During 1980–2000, it gradually became a systematic discipline. Since the start of the 21 st century, transportation geography has focused mainly on exploring the impacts of transportation on socio-economic development. Currently, studies on transportation geography have led to significant developments in a number of areas, including transportation theory, facility distribution and planning, transportation flows and network analysis, evaluation of transport modes, transportation planning, and simulation and assessment of urban transportation. Such studies have also enriched human geography research, provided a wider geographical overview and elucidated the development mechanism of transportation, as well as helped to understand the impacts of transport development on socio-economic systems. Some findings obtained by geographers have been widely used in transportation geography and related fields, including the four basic laws of transportation generation, the hub–spoke mode of transport organization, the subordinating and guiding functions of transportation on socio-economic development, regional transport dominance measures, accessibility measures, and spatial organization of port systems.展开更多

文摘The increase in China’s skilled labor force has drawn much attention from policymakers, national and international firms and media.Understanding how educated talent locates and re-locates across the country can guide future policy discussions of equality, firm localization and service allocation.Prior studies have tended to adopt a static cross-national approach providing valuable insights into the relative importance of economic and amenity differentials driving the distribution of talent in China.Yet,few adopt longitudinal analysis to examine the temporal dynamics in the stregnth of existing associations.Recently released official statistical data now enables space-time analysis of the geographic distribution of talent and its determinants in China.Using four-year city-level data from national population censuses and 1%population sample surveys conducted every five years between 2000 and 2015,we examine the spatial patterns of talent across Chinese cities and their underpinning drivers evolve over time. Results reveal that the spatial distribution of talent in China is persistently unequal and spatially concentrated between 2000 and 2015.It also shows gradually strengthened and significantly positive spatial autocorrelation in the distribution of talent. An eigenvector spatial filtering negative binomial panel is employed to model the spatial determinants of talent distribution. Results indicate the influences of both economic opportunities and urban amenities, particularly urban public services and greening rate,on the distribution of talent. These results highlight that urban economic-and amenity-related factors have simultaneously driven China’s talent’s settlement patterns over the first fifteen years of the 21st century.

文摘As an important branch of human geography, transportation geography has experienced three periods of evolution: foundation, systematization, and rapid development of the discipline. Some findings obtained by geographers have been widely used in transportation geography and related fields, including the four basic laws of transportation generation, the hub–spoke mode of transport organization, the subordinating and guiding functions of transportation on socio-economic development, regional transport dominance measures, accessibility measures, and spatial organization of port systems.

文摘The genus Woodwardia, which together with the genera Anchistea and Lorinseria comprise the subfamily Woodwardioideae of Blechnaceae, has a disjunct distribution across Central and North America,Europe and the temperate to tropical areas of Asia.Fossil records of Woodwardia occur throughout the Paleogene and Neogene of North America,Europe and Asia.However,well-preserved fertile pinna fossils of this genus have not yet been reported in South China. In this paper,a new species,W.changchangensis Naugolnykh et Song,sp.nov.is described from the middle Eocene of the Changchang Basin,Hainan Island,South China.Macromorphological and micromorphological features of the fertile pinna show a straight pinna rachis, alternate, subtriangular pinnules, acute pinnule apices, almost entire or slightly undulate pinnule margins,long-ovoid sori, stalked sporangia and spores with wing-like folds on the surface, which are characterised in detail.Overall, the present fossil is most similar to the extant species Woodwardia japonica, which mostly grows in warm and moist environments. The discovery of this new species from the Changchang Basin of Hainan Island indicates that this genus has been distributed in the low-latitude tropical regions of South China from as early as the middle Eocene.Based on this find, and previous studies of other ferns from the same site,we infer that the climate of the Palaeo-Hainan landscape during deposition of the Changchang Formation was warm and humid, similar to conditions prevailing today across this region.

文摘The increased frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall events due to climate change could potentially influence the movement of nutrients from land-based regions into recipient rivers. However, little information is available on how the rainfall affect nutrient dynamics in subtropicalmontane rivers with complex land use. This study conducted high-frequency monitoring to study the effects of rainfall on nutrients dynamics in an agricultural river draining to Lake Qiandaohu,a montane reservoir of southeast China. The results showed that riverine total nitrogen(TN)and total phosphorus(TP)concentrations increased continuously with increasing rainfall intensity, while TN:TP decreased. The heavy rainfall and rainstorm drove more than 30%of the annual N and P loading in only 5.20%of the total rainfall period, indicating that increased storm runoff is likely to exacerbate eutrophication in montane reservoirs.NO_(3)^(−)-N is the primary nitrogen form lost, while particulate phosphorus(PP)dominated phosphorus loss.Themain source of N is cropland, and themain source of P is residential area.Spatially, forestedwatersheds have better drainage quality, while it is still a potential source of nonpoint pollution during rainfall events.TN and TP concentrations were significantly higher at sites dominated by cropland and residential area, indicating their substantial contributions to deteriorating river water quality.Temporally,TN and TP concentrations reached high values in May-August when rainfall was most intense, while they were lower in autumn and winter than that in spring and summer under the same rainfall intensities. The results emphasize the influence of rainfall-runoff and land use on dynamics of riverine N and P loads, providing guidance for nutrient load reduction planning for Lake Qiandaohu.

文摘Increased exposure to campus green spaces can make a positive contribution to the healthy development of students. However, understanding of the current supply of campus green space(CGS)and its drivers at different education stages is still limited.A new framework was established to evaluate the spatial heterogeneity and its influencing factors across all education stages(kindergarten, primary school, middle school, college)in 1100 schools at the urban scale of Xi’an,China. The research results show that:1)CGS is lower in the Baqiao district and higher in the Yanta and Xincheng districts of Xi’an City.‘Green wealthy schools are mainly concentrated in the Weiyang,Chang’an and Yanta districts.2)CGS of these schools in descending order is college(31.40%)>kindergarten(18.32%)>middle school(13.56%)>primary school(10.70%).3)Colleges have the most recreation sites(n(number)=2),the best education levels(11.93 yr),and the lowest housing prices(1.18×10^(4) yuan(RMB)/m^(2));middle schools have the highest public expenditures(3.97×10^(9) yuan/yr);primary schools have the highest CGS accessibility(travel time gap(TTG)=31.33).4)Multiscale Geographically Weighted Regression model and Spearman’s test prove that recreation sites have a significant positive impact on college green spaces(0.28–0.35),and education level has a significant positive impact on kindergarten green spaces(0.16–0.24).This research framework provides important insights for the assessment of school greening initiatives aimed at fostering healthier learning environments for future generations.

文摘As a crucial human activity, dam construction can profoundly impact the surface hydrology patterns. The Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR),as one of the largest hydraulic engineering projects in the world, has gained continuous attention for its eco-hydrological effects. However, further investigation is necessary to understand the runoff and social impacts of the TGR on the Upper Yangtze River. This study first employed a modified SWAT model to simulate runoff, compared scenarios with and without the TGR,and finally evaluated water supply and demand in the Upper Yangtze River. The results showed a significant increasing trend in the surface water area of the Upper Yangtze River from 2000-2020.The modified SWAT model performs well in simulating the runoff, with Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency and Percent Bias improved by 0.04-0.30 and 2-31.90,respectively.Scenario simulation results revealed that the TGR reduced seasonal differences in runoff.During the flood season, the runoff volume at the Yichang Station in the scenario with the TGR is lower than in the scenario without the TGR,peaking at 4500 m3/s.Conversely,in the dry season, the runoff volume of the scenario with TGR is higher, with a maximum increase of 1500 m3/s.The region exhibiting the greatest runoff variations is the Yangtze River's main stem in the Three Gorges Reservoir region.Besides, the TGR notably alleviated the water supply-demand imbalance in Chongqing during the winter and spring seasons, with a maximum increase of 0.16 in the supplydemand index. This study can contribute significantly to understanding the natural and social impacts of the TGR from the perspective of hydrological and scenario simulation.

文摘Climate change is significantly impacting cotton production in the Tarim River Basin. The study investigated the climate change characteristics from 2021 to 2100 using climate change datasets simulated per the coupled model inter-comparison project phase six(CMIP6)climatic patterns under the shared socioeconomic pathways SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5.The DSSAT-CROPGROCotton model, along with stepwise multiple regression analyses, was used to simulate changes in the potential yield of seed cotton due to climate change. The results show that while future temperatures in the Tarim River Basin will rise significantly, changes in precipitation and radiation during the cotton-growing season are minimal.Seed cotton yields are more sensitive to low temperatures than to precipitation and radiation. The potential yield of seed cotton under the SSP2-4.5 scenario would increase by 14.8%,23.7%,29.0%,and 29.4%in the 2030S,2050S,2070S,and 2090S,respectively.In contrast, under the SSP5-8.5 scenario, the potential yield of seed cotton would see increases of 17.5%,27.1%,30.1%,and 22.6%,respectively.Except for the 2090s under the SSP5-8.5 scenario, future seed cotton production can withstand a 10%to 20%deficit in irrigation. These findings will help develop climate change adaptation strategies for cotton cultivation.

文摘Both straw incorporation and irrigation practices affect biological nitrogen(N)fixation(BNF),but it is still unclear how straw incorporation impacts BNF under continuous(CFI)or intermittent(IFI)flooding irrigation in a rice cropping system.A15N2-labeling chamber system was placed in a rice field to evaluate BNF with straw incorporation under CFI or IFI for 90 d.The nif H(gene encoding the nitrogenase reductase subunit)DNA and c DNA in soil were amplified using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and high-throughput sequencing was applied to the nif H gene. The total fixed N in the straw incorporation treatment was 14.3 kg ha^(-1)under CFI,being 116%higher than that under IFI(6.62 kg ha^(-1)).Straw incorporation and CFI showed significant interactive effects on the total fixed N and abundances of nif H DNA and c DNA.The increase in BNF was mainly due to the increase in the abundances of heterotrophic diazotrophs such as Desulfovibrio,Azonexus, and Azotobacter. These results indicated that straw incorporation stimulated BNF under CFI relative to IFI,which might ultimately lead to a rapid enhancement of soil fertility.

文摘Scientifically understanding the evolution of urbanization and analysing the coupling mechanism of human-land systems are important foundations for solving spatial conflicts and promoting regional sustainable development. This study analyzed the spatiotemporal evolution and landscape pattern change of construction land in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD)region from 1990 to 2018 by integrating Geographical Information System(GIS)spatial analysis and landscape pattern indices, and revealed its driving mechanism by XGBoost and SHapley Additive ex Planations(SHAP).Moreover,we compared the disparities in the core driving factors for construction land evolution in cities with diverse development orientations within the YRD region. Results show that:1)development intensity of construction land continued to increase from 7.54%in 1990 to 13.44%in 2018,primarily by occupying farmland. The landscape fragmentation of construction land in the YRD region decreased, and landscape dominance increased.Spatially, the eastern part of the YRD exhibits a high degree of spatial agglomeration of construction land, whereas the western part shows a high degree of fragmentation, revealing distinct spatial gradient differentiation characteristics. The landscape dominance of the construction land in the eastern region of the YRD is higher than that in the western and northern regions.2)Transportation and infrastructure exert the highest contribution rate on development intensity changes of construction land in the YRD.The industrial structure significantly influences the conversion of farmland to construction land.Additionally, infrastructure plays a crucial role in shaping the spatial agglomeration patterns of construction land.Population distribution is the dominant factor determining the regularity of the landscape shape of construction land.3)The core driving factors for the development intensity of construction land in central cities primarily lies in transportation, whereas for non-central cities, besides transportation, the year-end balance of per capita savings deposits of urban and rural residents also play a significant role. The area change of construction land occupying farmland in central and non-central cities is mainly driven by industrial structure and economic level, respectively. This study informs refined spatial optimization and regional high-quality integrated development.

文摘The Yellow River Basin in Sichuan Province(YRS)is undergoing severe soil erosion and exacerbated ecological vulnerability, which collectively pose formidable challenges for regional water conservation(WC)and sustainable development. While effectively enhancing WC necessitates a comprehensive understanding of its driving factors and corresponding intervention strategies, existing studies have largely neglected the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of both natural and socio-economic drivers. Therefore, this study explored the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of WC drivers in YRS using multi-scale geographically weighted regression(MGWR)and geographically and temporally weighted regression(GTWR)models from an eco-hydrological perspective. We discovered that downstream regions, which are more developed, achieved significantly better WC than upstream regions. The results also demonstrated that the influence of temperature and wind speed is consistently dominant and temporally stable due to climate stability, while the influence of vegetation shifted from negative to positive around 2010,likely indicating greater benefits from understory vegetation.Economic growth positively impacted WC in upstream regions but had a negative effect in the more developed downstream regions. These findings highlight the importance of targeted water conservation strategies, including locally appropriate revegetation, optimization of agricultural and economic structures, and the establishment of eco-compensation mechanisms for ecological conservation and sustainable development.

文摘Wetlands play a critical role in the global environment. The Middle Yangtze River Basin(MYRB),known for its abundant wetland resources, has experienced notable changes resulting from the complex interplay of environmental factors. Therefore,we investigated the spatiotemporal characteristics of wetland ecological quality in the MYRB from 2001 to 2020.Utilizing the random forest(RF)regression algorithm and patch-generated land-use simulation(PLUS)model,we forecasted variations in wetland habitat quality and their determinants under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway-Representative Concentration Pathway(SSPRCP)framework from 2035 to 2095.The main findings are as follows:(1)The RF algorithm was optimal for land-use and land-cover(LULC)classification in the MYRB from 2001 to 2020,when notable changes were observed in water bodies and buildings. However, the forested area exhibited an increase and decrease of 3.9%and 1.2%under the SSP1-2.6 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios, respectively, whereas farmland exhibited a diminishing trend.(2)Wetlands were primarily concentrated in the central and eastern MYRB,with counties in the southwest exhibiting superior ecological-environmental quality from 2001 to 2020.Notably,wetland coverage revealed significantly high level, significant changes, frequent but relatively minor changes under the SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,and SSP 5-8.5 scenarios,respectively.(3)Regions with lower habitat quality were primarily concentrated in urbanized areas characterized by frequent human activities, indicating a clear degradation in habitat quality across different scenarios. In conclusion,we established a foundational framework for future investigations into the eco-hydrological processes and ecosystem quality of watersheds.

文摘Terrestrial ecosystems heavily depend on vegetation, which responds to carbon dioxide(CO_(2))fertilization in hot and humid regions. The subtropical humid karst region is a hot and humid region;whether and to what extent CO_(2)fertilization affects vegetation changes in such regions remains unclear. In this study,we investigated the degree to which CO_(2)fertilization influences vegetation changes, along with their spatial and temporal differences,in the subtropical humid karst region using time-lag effect analysis,a random forest model, and multiple regression analysis. Results showed that CO_(2)fertilization plays an important role in vegetation changes, exhibiting clear spatial variations across different geomorphological zones, with its degree of influence ranging mainly between 11%and 25%.The highest contribution of CO_(2)fertilization was observed in the karst basin and non-karstic region, whereas the lowest contribution was found in the karst plateau region.Previous studies have primarily attributed vegetation changes in subtropical humid karst region to ecological engineering, leading to an overestimation of its contribution to these changes. The findings of this study enhance the understanding of the mechanism of vegetation changes in humid karst region and provide theoretical and practical insights for ecological and environmental protection in these regions.
