Such a scientific model proposed for the general theory of decision-making, like all others in general, whether in statistics, economics, operations research, A.I., data science or applied mathematics, regardless of whether they are time-dependent, have in common a theoretical basis that is axiomatized by relying on related concepts of a universe of possibles, especially the so-called universe (or the world), the state of nature (or the state of the world), when formulated explicitly. The issue of where to stand as an observer or a decision-maker to reframe such a universe of possibles together with a partition structure of knowledge (i.e. semantic formalisms), including a copy of itself as it was initially while generalizing it, is not addressed. Memory being the substratum, whether human or artificial, wherein everything stands, to date, even the theoretical possibility of such an operation of self-inclusion is prohibited by pure mathematics. We make this blind spot come to light through a counter-example (namely Archimedes’ Eureka experiment) and explore novel theoretical foundations, fitting better with a quantum form than with fuzzy modeling, to deal with more than a reference universe of possibles. This could open up a new path of investigation for the general theory of decision-making, as well as for Artificial Intelligence, often considered as the science of the imitation of human abilities, while being also the science of knowledge representation and the science of concept formation and reasoning.展开更多

The feasibility of Plus Energy Building for a sample relevant case is investigated.After a literature review aimed to identify key aspects of this type of buildings,a preliminary evaluation of the thermal performance ...The feasibility of Plus Energy Building for a sample relevant case is investigated.After a literature review aimed to identify key aspects of this type of buildings,a preliminary evaluation of the thermal performance of a building constructed using conventional material is presented together with a parametric analysis of the impact of typical influential parameters.Solar domestic hot water(SDHW)and photovoltaic systems(PV)are considered in the study.Numerical simulations indicate that for the examined sample case(Beirut in Lebanon)the total annual energy need of conventional building is 87.1 kWh/y.m^(2).About 49%of energy savings can be achieved by improving the building envelope and installing energy efficient technologies.Moreover,about 90%of energy savings in domestic hot water production can be achieved by installing a SDHW system composed of two solar collectors connected in series.Finally,the addition of a grid connected PV array system can significantly mitigate the energy needs of the building leading to an annual excess of energy.展开更多

In this study, we reviewed our clinical experience in mitigating chronic ulcer complications of diabetic foot through a conventional treatment of autologous adipose-derived MSCs embedded in PRF with pure PRF injections. <b>Materials and Methods:</b> The present study was carried out in 10 patients with an open DFU wound selected over a period of 1 year starting from April 2019. Patients were either injected with PRF alone (Group A) or injected with MSCs derived from adipose tissue (ADMSC) embedded in (PRF (Group B). <b>Results:</b> Patients in Group B had a better healing index when compared to Group A. <b>Conclusion:</b> Use of ADMSC embedded in PRF showed promising results to treat DFU.展开更多

Free-space optical(FSO)communication technologies constitute a solution to cope with the bandwidth demand of future satellite-ground networks.They may overcome the RF bottleneck and attain data rates in the order of T...Free-space optical(FSO)communication technologies constitute a solution to cope with the bandwidth demand of future satellite-ground networks.They may overcome the RF bottleneck and attain data rates in the order of Tbit/s with only a handful of ground stations.Here,we demonstrate single-carrier Tbit/s line-rate transmission over a free-space channel of 53.42 km between the Jungfraujoch mountain top(3700 m)in the Swiss Alps and the Zimmerwald Observatory(895 m)near the city of Bern,achieving net-rates of up to 0.94 Tbit/s.With this scenario a satellite-ground feeder link is mimicked under turbulent conditions.Despite adverse conditions high throughput was achieved by employing a full adaptive optics system to correct the distorted wavefront of the channel and by using polarization-multiplexed high-order complex modulation formats.It was found that adaptive optics does not distort the reception of coherent modulation formats.Also,we introduce constellation modulation–a new four-dimensional BPSK(4D-BPSK)modulation format as a technique to transmit high data rates under lowest SNR.This way we show 53 km FSO transmission of 13.3 Gbit/s and 210 Gbit/s with as little as 4.3 and 7.8 photons per bit,respectively,at a bit-error ratio of 1∙10−3.The experiments show that advanced coherent modulation coding in combination with full adaptive optical filtering are proper means to make next-generation Tbit/s satellite communications practical.展开更多
In the absence of a central naming authority on the Semantic Web,it is common for different data sets to refer to the same thing by different names.Whenever multiple names are used to denote the same thing,owl:sameAs ...In the absence of a central naming authority on the Semantic Web,it is common for different data sets to refer to the same thing by different names.Whenever multiple names are used to denote the same thing,owl:sameAs statements are needed in order to link the data and foster reuse.Studies that date back as far as 2009,observed that the owl:sameAs property is sometimes used incorrectly.In our previous work,we presented an identity graph containing over 500 million explicit and 35 billion implied owl:sameAs statements,and presented a scalable approach for automatically calculating an error degree for each identity statement.In this paper,we generate subgraphs of the overall identity graph that correspond to certain error degrees.We show that even though the Semantic Web contains many erroneous owl:sameAs statements,it is still possible to use Semantic Web data while at the same time minimising the adverse effects of misusing owl:sameAs.展开更多
