In recent years, the section of bridge member becomes bigger, plate becomes thicker, connection form becomes more complicated and steel bridge is applied to wider districts even in the lower temperature environment. Thus, fatigue and fracture problems become more serious. On the basis of CTOD (crack tip open displacement) test data of 372 specimens tested in different temperatures, this paper discusses research work about fracture proof design that involves how to determine the criterion of CVN (Charpy V-notch) impact toughness by establishing the relationship between CTOD and CVN, how to prevent from brittle fracture by stress control in railway steel bridge design based on COD (crack open displacement) design curve through the test data and how to do the fatigue design for railway steel bridge at -50 ℃ of design temperature in an easy way. The method of fatigue design at -50 ℃ environment has been used for railway steel bridge structure of Qinghai-Tibet Railway in China.展开更多

There are 130 glacial lakes, 64 snow avalanche sites and 28 glacial debris flow gullies distributed within the basin. Snow disasters play a controlling role in the Sichuan-Tibet Highway construction, due to the terrain’s special characteristics of high altitude and large height differential. Segmentation mitigation countermeasures for the Sichuan-Tibet Highway are presented based on snow disaster severity level and damage mode of the road. In the Ranwu to Midui section, snow avalanches are regional disasters, so the line should be placed in sunny slopes. In the Midui Gully to Yupu section, the line should be placed in shady slopes and at higher elevations to reduce the risk of glacial lake outburst. In the Yupu to Guxiang section, all three snow disasters are minimal. In the Guxiang to Tongmai section, glacier debris flows are the major threat, thus the road should be placed in shady slopes.展开更多

The new type expansion device is composed of polyurethane elastomer material and named TTXF (elastomer expansion joint). In theory, researchers find out expansion joint deformation regularity between adjacent bridge spans through theoretical analysis and detection in heavy haul railways, such as Datong-Qinhuangdao Railway and Shenchi-Huanghua Port Railway. Fatigue tests prove that TTXF can adapt to permanent and dynamic deformation. On the other hand, it has been successfully applied in the test section of Central South of Shanxi Railway Passage and continuous monitoring has been conducted in extreme weather for over one year. 文摘Purpose–The bridge expansion joint(BEJ)is a key device for accommodating spatial displacement at the beam end,and for providing vertical support for running trains passing over the gap between the main bridge and the approach bridge. For long-span railway bridges,it must also be coordinated with rail expansion joint(REJ),which is necessary to accommodate the expansion and contraction of,and reducing longitudinal stress in,the rails. The main aim of this study is to present analysis of recent developments in the research and application of BEJs in high-speed railway(HSR)long-span bridges in China, and to propose a performance-based integral design method for BEJs used with REJs,from both theoretical and engineering perspectives.Design/methodology/approach–The study first presents a summary on the application and maintenance of BEJs in HSR long-span bridges in China representing an overview of their state of development. Results of a survey of typical BEJ faults were analyzed, and field testing was conducted on a railway cable-stayed bridge in order to obtain information on the major mechanical characteristics of its BEJ under train load.Based on the above,a performance-based integral design method for BEJs with maximum expansion range 1600 mm(±800 mm),was proposed, covering all stages from overall conceptual design to consideration of detailed structural design issues. The performance of the novel BEJ design thus derived was then verified via theoretical analysis under different scenarios,full-scale model testing, and field testing and commissioning.Findings–Two major types of BEJs,deck-type and through-type,are used in HSR long-span bridges in China.Typical BEJ faults were found to mainly include skewness of steel sleepers at the bridge gap, abnormally large longitudinal frictional resistance, and flexural deformation of the scissor mechanisms. These faults influence BEJ functioning, and thus adversely affect track quality and train running performance at the beam end.Due to their simple and integral structure,deck-type BEJs with expansion range 1200 mm(±600 mm)or less have been favored as a solution offering improved operational conditions, and have emerged as a standard design. However, when the expansion range exceeds the above-mentioned value, special design work becomes necessary. Therefore, based on engineering practice,a performance-based integral design method for BEJs used with REJs was proposed, taking into account four major categories of performance requirements,i.e.,mechanical characteristics, train running quality, durability and insulation performance.Overall BEJ design must mainly consider component strength and the overall stiffness of BEJ;the latter factor in particular has a decisive influence on train running performance at the beam end.Detailed BEJ structural design must stress minimization of the frictional resistance of its sliding surface. The static and dynamic performance of the newlydesigned BEJ with expansion range 1600 mm have been confirmed to be satisfactory, via numerical simulation,full-scale model testing, and field testing and commissioning.Originality/value–This research provides a broad overview of the status of BEJs with large expansion range in HSR long-span bridges in China, along with novel insights into their design.

文摘Railway steel bridge belongs to large-scale weld structures suffered with cyclic dynamic stress generated by the train. The method of fatigue design at -50 ℃ environment has been used for railway steel bridge structure of Qinghai-Tibet Railway in China.

文摘In order to achieve the large-scale application of manufactured sand in railway high-strength concrete structure,a series of high-strength manufactured sand concrete(HMC)are prepared by taking the manufactured sand lithology(tuff, limestone, basalt, granite),stone powder content(0,5%,10%,15%)and concrete strength grade(C60,C80,C100)as variables. The evolution of mechanical properties of HMC and the correlation between cubic compressive strength and other mechanical properties are studied.Compared to river sand, manufactured sand enhances the cubic compressive strength, axial compressive strength and elastic modulus of concrete, while its potential microcracks weaken the flexural strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete.Stone powder content displays both positive and negative effects on mechanical properties of HMC,and the stone powder content is suggested to be less than 10%.The empirical formulas between cubic compressive strength and other mechanical properties are proposed.

文摘Purpose–Severe scarcity of natural river sand(RS),exacerbated by environmental protection policies and extraction constraints, has significantly impacted aggregate supply for railway concrete. While manufactured sand(MS)offers a substitute for RS in railway applications, its widespread adoption in high-strength railway prestressed structures is challenged by lack of drying shrinkage and creep research data on concrete.Design/methodology/approach–High-strength manufactured sand concrete(MSC)was prepared using MS with varying lithologies and stone powder contents. Its drying shrinkage and creep behaviors were evaluated in accordance with the Chinese standard GB/T 50082.The deformation mechanism was analyzed by combining nano-scratch testing.Findings–Compared to RS concrete,MSC from all tested lithologies showed higher drying shrinkage but lower creep deformation. The drying shrinkage rose steadily with increased stone powder content, while the creep strain displayed a distinct non-linear trend, decreasing first before rising. To prepare low-deformation MSC,select high-strength MS and limit stone powder content not greater 10%.Nano-scratch tests indicated that harder MS particles suppress microcracking at the interfacial transition zone(ITZ),improving the creep resistance. The predictive models for drying shrinkage and creep were also developed by incorporating coefficients for stone powder and lithology effects.Originality/value–These findings serve as a foundation for the application of MSC in railway prestressed structures, offering both theoretical and practical guidance.

文摘The intrusion of obstacles onto railway tracks presents a significant threat to train safety, characterized by sudden and unpredictable occurrences. With China leading the world in high-speed rail mileage, ensuring railway security is paramount. The current laser monitoring technologies suffer from high false alarm rates and unreliable intrusion identification. This study addresses these issues by investigating high-resolution laser monitoring technology for railway obstacles, focusing on key parameters such as monitoring range and resolution. We propose an enhanced non-uniform laser scanning method, developing a laser monitoring system that reduces the obstacle false alarm rate to 2.00%,significantly lower than the 20%standard(TJ/GW135-2015).This rate is the best record for laser monitoring systems on China Railway. Our system operates seamlessly in all weather conditions, providing superior accuracy, resolution, and identification efficiency. It is the only 3D LiDAR system certified by the China State Railway Group Co.,Ltd.(Certificate No.[2023]008).Over three years, our system has been deployed at numerous points along various lines managed by the China State Railway Group, accumulating a dataset of 300,000 observations. This extensive deployment has significantly enhanced railway safety. The development and implementation of our railway laser monitoring system represent a substantial advancement in railway safety technology. Its low false alarm rate(2.00%),high accuracy(20 cm×20 cm×20 cm),and robust performance in diverse conditions underscore its potential for widespread adoption, promising to enhance railway safety in China and internationally.

文摘During the service lives of ballasted tracks, the ballast experiences degradation, such as breakage and fragmentation, which reduces the stability of the tracks.Ballast breakage is directly related to the shapes, sizes, and stress states of particles. The key to solving this problem is to determine the breakage parameters of railway ballast. In this study, through uniaxial compression and uniaxial shear tests, the factors associated with ballast breakage for a simple stress state were obtained. Then,a refined discrete element model of railway ballast was established. The Box-Behnken method was used to design a simulation test, and a response surface method was used to obtain the optimal ballast breakage parameters.Lastly, the results of a direct shear test were compared with the simulation results to verify the correctness of the parameters and to study the shear resistance of the ballast aggregates. The results showed that for ballast particles with sizes of 22.4–63.0 mm,the characteristic stresses of compression and shear were not significantly affected by the size of the particles, but were greatly affected by their shape. In particular, long particles were more likely to break.During the direct shear test, the cumulative ballast breakage ratio gradually increased to 13.97%.The optimal breakage parameters of the ballast determined by this approach have high application value in the management of ballasted tracks.

文摘The complex bridge-track interaction between kilometer-span bridges and continuous Welded Rail(CWR)brings great challenges to CWR designing.Taking a suspension bridge with laying CWR as a case, the mechanical properties of CWR on the bridge are analyzed to reveal the sensitive areas of the track, and the design method of CWR and track structures on the beam ends are proposed. The results show that the unidirectional Rail Expansion Joints(REJ)need to be installed on the beam end of the kilometer-span bridge to reduce rail longitudinal force.Due to the bridge characteristics, there is no CWR fixed area on the kilometer-span bridge, and rail longitudinal force on the main span caused by bending loads needs to be concerned. The deformation of track on the beam end is complex, which is the weak area on the kilometer bridge, the large relative displacement between the stock rail of REJ and the main beam can cause poor stability of ballast bed on beam end, small resistance fasteners need to be laid on the sides of stock rail on the main beam to increase the stability of ballast and fasteners on the beam end.To improve the driving safety and comfort of beam end,the Sleeper-Supporting Apparatus(SSA)should be specially designed to ensure the uniform transition of track on beam ends.Temperature and wind loads have a significant impact on track regularity on the kilometer span bridge, the dynamic response of trains and bridges under those loads needs to be attended to.

文摘In the service period, the instability of ballastless track bed are mostly related to the damage of interlayers which are mainly resulted from the incompatible thermal deformation of interlayers. The temperature field within the ballastless track bed shows significant non-uniformity due to the large difference in the materials of various structure layers, leading to a considerable difference in the force bearing of different structure layers.Unit Ballastless Track Bed(UBTB)is most significantly affected by temperature gradient. The thermal deformation of interlayers within UBTB follows the trend of ellipsoid-shape buckling under the effect of the temperature gradient, resulting in a variation of the contact relationship between structure layers and a significant periodic irregularity on the rail. When the train travels on the periodically irregular rail, the structure layers are locally contacted, and the contact zone moves with the variation of the wheel position. This wheel-followed local contact greatly magnifies the interlayer stress, causes interlayer damage, and leads to a considerable increase in the bending moment of the track slab.Continuous Ballastless Track Bed(CBTB)is most significantly affected by the overall temperature variation, which may cause damage to the joint in CBTB.Under the combined action of the overall temperature rise and the temperature gradient, the interlayer damage continuously expands, resulting in bonding failure between structural layers. The thermal force in the continuous track slabs will cause the up-heave buckling and the sudden large deformation of the track slab, and the loss of constraint boundary of the horizontal stability. For the design of a ballastless track structure, the change of bearing status and structural damage related to the incompatible thermal deformation of interlayers should be considered.

文摘Purpose–This study aims to analyze the impact mechanism of typical environments in China’s western mountainous areas on the durability of railway concrete and propose measures to improve durability.Design/methodology/approach–With the continuous promotion of infrastructure construction, the focus of China’s railway construction has gradually shifted to the western region. The four typical environments of large temperature differences, strong winds and dryness, high cold and low air pressure unique to the western mountainous areas of China have adverse effects on the durability of typical railway structure concrete(bridges, ballastless tracks and tunnels). This study identified the characteristics of four typical environments in the western mountainous areas of China through on-site research. The impact mechanism of the four typical environments on the durability of concrete in different structural parts of railways has been explored through theoretical analysis and experimental research; Finally,a strategy for improving the durability of railway concrete suitable for the western mountainous areas of China was proposed.Findings–The daily temperature difference in the western mountainous areas of China is more than twice that of the plain region, which will lead to significant temperature deformation and stress in the multi-layered structure of railway ballastless tracks. It will result in cracking. The wind speed in the western plateau region is about 2.5 to 3 times that of the plain region, and the average annual rainfall is only 1/5 of that in the plain region. The drying effect on the surface of casting concrete will significantly accelerate its cracking process, leading to serious durability problems. The environmental temperature in the western mountainous areas of China is generally low,and there are more freeze-thaw cycles, which will increase the risk of freeze-thaw damage to railway concrete. The environmental air pressure in the western plateau region is only 60%of that in the plain region. The moisture inside the concrete is more likely to diffuse into the surrounding environment under the pressure difference, resulting in greater water loss and shrinkage deformation of the concrete in the plateau region. The above four issues will collectively lead to the rapid deterioration of concrete durability in the western plateau region. The corresponding durability improvement suggestions from theoretical research, new technology development and standard system was proposed in this paper.Originality/value–The research can provide the mechanism of durability degradation of railway concrete in the western mountainous areas of China and corresponding improvement strategies.

文摘The Palongzangbu River Basin contains the highest number of maritime province glaciers in China. In the Guxiang to Tongmai section, glacier debris flows are the major threat, thus the road should be placed in shady slopes.
文摘The article summarizes related research results and achievements of elastomer expansion device in railway bridge and puts forward a new idea of using polyurethane elastomer material to seal concrete bridge joints between adjacent spans in heavy haul railways. The expansion joint has a good effect practically.
