The study...The Power Quality (PQ), security, reliability etc., are the prime objectives of the power system. The protection is developed in such a way that it should be selective, fast, reliable and the cost effective. The study about the islanding protection in Low Voltage (LV) CIGRE distribution and networks like this has been proposed in this paper. This is achieved by developing the protection against the short circuit faults which might appear at the Medium Voltage (MV) bus. The protection of the network with significant penetration of the Distributed Generations (DGs) is a complicated process. The DG units which are directly connected to the grid such as synchronous or induction generators contribute large short power, whereas the DG units which are connected to the grid via inverters carry small amount of the short circuit power. This creates the problems in the protection of the network. If the proper protection coordination measures have not been taken, it might cause the mal-function of the protection devices which put the portion of the power network into the security threats. The selection of the islanding protection devices in this paper is made to protect the network against bi-directional currents at the time of short circuit fault. The LV CIGRE distribution network will enter into islanding if a fault is cleared at the MV bus by the proposed islanding protection devices. It is therefore, essential to detect the islanding in the CIGRE power network. The detection of the island in this network is another major objective of this paper. The detection of the island is proposed by using the technique which is based on the voltage phase angle difference. The simulations are carried out by using DIgSILENT power factory software version 15.0.展开更多

It demands such types ofsolutions that can be addressed to obtain the user’s Quality-of-Experience(QoE). 360-degree videos have already taken up the user’s behavior by storm. However, the users only focus on the part of 360-degree videos, known as aviewport. Despite the immense hype, 360-degree videos convey a loathsomeside effect about viewport prediction, making viewers feel uncomfortablebecause user viewport needs to be pre-fetched in advance. Ideally, we canminimize the bandwidth consumption if we know what the user motionin advance. Looking into the problem definition, we propose an EncoderDecoder based Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) model to more accuratelycapture the non-linear relationship between past and future viewport positions. This model takes the transforming data instead of taking the direct inputto predict the future user movement. Then, this prediction model is combinedwith a rate adaptation approach that assigns the bitrates to various tiles for360-degree video frames under a given network capacity. Hence, our proposedwork aims to facilitate improved system performance when QoE parametersare jointly optimized. Some experiments were carried out and compared withexisting work to prove the performance of the proposed model. Last but notleast, the experiments implementation of our proposed work provides highuser’s QoE than its competitors.展开更多

Due to this concentration of stresses and their interaction, there are great chances of failure to occur at the junction. Also the flexural stresses are not uniformly distributed and have the highest intensity near the periphery of inner walls but are reduced drastically as we move away from the wall-slab junction. Numerous attempts have been made to strengthen the wall-slab junction by using various types of shear reinforcement to ensure that shear failure should not occur. Various methods including fibre reinforcement consisting of twins of twisted steel couplets have already been used. This paper describes a new method of placing 2 inch wide flange I-sections at appropriate locations to improve the shear strength of the wall-slab junctions. Based on systematic research, a new procedure has also been developed to assess the strength of wall-slab junction using the new reinforcement method. Test results showed that a substantial increase, up to 57%, in the shear strength of specimens was obtained by using the new method of shear reinforcement in a laterally loaded tall building.展开更多

In this study, potential of baked clay as an economical material of building construction is investigated in order to replace normal concrete. For this purpose, compressive strength and tensile strength of baked clay fired at 1000℃ were determined. The results show that the compressive strength and tensile strength of baked clay are about 65%, and 80% more than those of corresponding values of normal concrete, respectively. This implies that by utilizing reinforced baked clay instead of RCC, saving of cement aggregates and reinforcing steel could be achieved.展开更多

The beams were made of two different grades of baked clay with cube crushing strength of 20 MPa and 30 MPa, respectively. The RBC beams were subjected to repeated drop weight loading by a hammer of weight equal to that of the specimen being tested. The results showed that the impact resistance of the RBC beams was governed by the compressive strength of the baked clay. Failure of grade 20 beams occurred due to irregular cracks and the beams of grade 30 failed by opening of a single crack at mid span. It was observed that the beams of grade 30 had sustained about 1.5 times more number of impacts until steel in tension zone yielded and failed completely after necking.展开更多

The cost of coal is high and is increasing continuously. This paper describes the effect of alternate fuels on compressive strength, water absorption and density of fired clay bricks. The alternate fuels used in this study were 1) rapeseed husk (Type I), 2) combination of sugarcane-bagasse, rice husk and used clothes (Type II) and 3) coal (Type III). The results show that compressive strength of bricks fired using Type I and Type II fuels was decreased to 11% and 7%, respectively, compared to those fired with coal. However, the values of water absorption and density of bricks fired with Type I and Type II fuels were almost same as exhibited by those baked with coal. This study shows that a saving of 25%, and 18% could be achieved when the bricks were fired using Type I and Type II fuels, respectively, compared to those fired with coal.展开更多

Deflection and cracks are important parameters for design of beams in a building. However, for RBC beams it is still unknown that how the deflection and crack width could be controlled by increasing ratio of reinforcement. This study investigates the effect of ratio of reinforcement on deflection and cracking behaviour of baked clay beams. The results show that by increasing area of reinforcement by 50% in baked clay beams: 1) deflection was decreased to 2.5 times, and 2) crack width was reduced to three times.展开更多

In such regions, use of Reinforced Baked Clay (RBC) is considered to be a cheaper alternative for RCC. This paper presents structural behaviour of RBC beams. The results of RBC beams were compared with a control RCC beam of same size and reinforcement. Both types of the beams showed similar load deflection behaviour in pre-yield stage. Whereas, in post yield stage, the RBC beams showed comparatively more deflection as compared to the RCC beam. The ultimate load carrying capacity of the RBC beams was almost similar to that of the RCC beam. This study suggests that the RBC beams can be used economically instead of RCC beams without losing strength and safety of a building.展开更多

In order to resolve these problems, a new technique of constructing walls using large size baked clay blocks is introduced. For this purpose, clay blocks of size 150 mm × 300 mm × 1980 mm were cast at a pressure of 6 MPa, and fired at a temperature of 700℃. In this paper, compressive strength and tensile strength of baked clay were investigated in order to find its suitability as a walling material for low cost houses. Cubes of 150 mm sides were tested in compression and the beams were tested in flexure. The results showed that compressive strength of baked clay cubes was found to be 10 MPa and tensile strength, in terms of modulus of rupture, was found to be 2.3 MPa. Since the baked clay blocks are larger in size than traditional bricks, it is inferred that the blocks could be used as a cheaper and stronger walling material.展开更多

Since baked clay is considered to be more brittle as compared to concrete. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate how deflection and crack width of RBC beams subjected to impact loading are governed by amount of reinforcement. This paper presents the behaviour of RBC beams under drop weight impact loading. The beams were reinforced with two steel bars, one in compression zone and the other in tension zone. In group A beams, the diameter of steel bars was 12.7 mm, while the beams of group B were reinforced with steel bars of 15.8 mm diameter. The RBC beams were subjected to repeated impacts of a hammer of mass 21 kg falling from a height of 1000 mm. The results show that 1) three times reduction in deflection, and 2) 2.5 times decrease in crack width, were achieved in RBC beams by increasing the area of steel to 50%. In addition to this, all the RBC beams failed within nine blows of the hammer, irrespective of area of reinforcement.展开更多

文摘Owing to the 4.0 industrial revolution condition monitoring maintenance is widely accepted as a useful approach to avoiding plant disturbances and shutdown.Recently,Motor Current Signature Analysis(MCSA)is widely reported as a condition monitoring technique in the detection and identification of individual andmultiple Induction Motor(IM)faults. However, checking the fault detection and classification with deep learning models and its comparison among them selves or conventional approaches is rarely reported in the literature. Therefore,in this work, wepresent the detection and identification of induction motor faults with MCSA and three Deep Learning(DL)models namely MLP,LSTM,and 1D-CNN.Initially,we have developed the model of Squirrel Cage induction motor in MATLAB and simulated it for single phasing and stator winding faults(SWF)using Fast Fourier Transform(FFT),Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT),and Continuous Wavelet Transform(CWT)to detect and identify the healthy and unhealthy conditions with phase to ground, single phasing and in multiple fault conditions using Motor Current Signature Analysis. The faults impact on stator current is presented in the time and frequency domain(i.e.,power spectrum). The simulation results show that the scalogram has shown good results in time-frequency analysis for fault and showing its impact on the energy of current during individual fault and multiple fault conditions. This is further investigated with three deep learning models(i.e.,MLP,LSTM,and 1D-CNN)for checking the fault detection and identification(i.e.,classification)improvement in a three-phase induction motor.By simulating the three-phase induction motor in various healthy and unhealthy conditions in MATLAB,we have collected current signature data in the time domain, labeled them accordingly and created the 50 thousand samples dataset for DL models. All the DL models are trained and validated with a suitable number of architecture layers.By simulation, the multiclass confusion matrix, precision, recall, and F1-score are obtained in several conditions. The result shows that the stator current signature of the motor can be used to detect individual and multiple faults. Moreover, deep learning models can efficiently classify the induction motor faults based on time-domain data of the stator current signature. In deep learning(DL)models, the LSTM has shown better accuracy among all other three models. These results show that employing deep learning in fault detection and identification of induction motors can be very useful in predictive maintenance to avoid shutdown and production cycle stoppage in the industry.
文摘The Power Quality (PQ), security, reliability etc., are the prime objectives of the power system. The simulations are carried out by using DIgSILENT power factory software version 15.0.

文摘Since the worldwide spread of internet-connected devices and rapid advances made in Internet of Things(IoT)systems, much research has been done in using machine learning methods to recognize IoT sensors data. This is particularly the case for optical character recognition of handwritten scripts.Recognizing text in images has several useful applications, including content-based image retrieval, searching and document archiving. The Arabic language is one of the mostly used tongues in the world. However,Arabic text recognition in imagery is still very much in the nascent stage, especially handwritten text. This is mainly due to the language complexities, different writing styles, variations in the shape of characters, diacritics, and connected nature of Arabic text.In this paper, two deep learning models were proposed. The first model was based on a sequence-to-sequence recognition, while the second model was based on a fully convolution network. To measure the performance of these models,a new dataset, called QTID(Quran Text Image Dataset)was devised. This is the first Arabic dataset that includes Arabic diacritics. It consists of 309,720 different 192×64 annotated Arabic word images, which comprise 2,494,428 characters in total taken from the Holy Quran. The annotated images in the dataset were randomly divided into 90%,5%,and 5%sets for training, validation, and testing purposes, respectively. Both models were set up to recognize the Arabic Othmani font in the QTID.Experimental results show that the proposed methods achieve state-of-the-art outcomes.Furthermore, the proposed models surpass expectations in terms of character recognition rate,F1-score,average precision, and recall values. They are superior to the best Arabic text recognition engines like Tesseract and ABBYY FineReader.

文摘Surveillance cameras have been widely used for monitoring in both private and public sectors as a security measure.Close Circuits Television(CCTV)Cameras are used to surveillance and monitor the normal and anomalous incidents.Real-world anomaly detection is a significant challenge due to its complex and diverse nature. It is difficult to manually analyze because vast amounts of video data have been generated through surveillance systems, and the need for automated techniques has been raised to enhance detection accuracy. This paper proposes a novel deep-stacked ensemble model integrated with a data augmentation approach called Stack Ensemble Road Anomaly Detection(SERAD).SERAD is used to detect and classify the four most happening road anomalies, such as accidents, car fires, fighting, and snatching, through road surveillance videos with high accuracy. The SERAD adapted three pre-trained Convolutional Neural Networks(CNNs)models, namely VGG19,ResNet50 and InceptionV3.The stacking technique is employed to incorporate these three models, resulting in much-improved accuracy for classifying road abnormalities compared to individual models.Additionally,it presented a custom real-world Road Anomaly Dataset(RAD)comprising a comprehensive collection of road images and videos. The experimental results demonstrate the strength and reliability of the proposed SERAD model, achieving an impressive classification accuracy of 98.7%.The results indicate that the proposed SERAD model outperforms than the individual CNN base models.
文摘The development of multimedia content has resulted in a massiveincrease in network traffic for video streaming. Last but notleast, the experiments implementation of our proposed work provides highuser’s QoE than its competitors.

文摘Electroencephalogram(EEG)is a method of capturing the electrophy-siological signal of the brain. An EEG headset is a wearable device that records electrophysiological data from the brain. This paper presents the design and fab-rication of a customized low-cost Electroencephalogram(EEG)headset based on the open-source OpenBCI Ultracortex Mark IV system. The electrode placement locations are modified under a 10–20 standard system. The fabricated headset is then compared to commercially available headsets based on the following para-meters:affordability,accessibility,noise,signal quality, and cost.First, the data is recorded from 20 subjects who used the EEG Headset, and signals were recorded.Secondly, the participants marked the accuracy, set up time, participant comfort, and participant perceived ease of set-up on a scale of 1 to 7(7 being excellent).Thirdly, the self-designed EEG headband is used by 5 participants for slide changing. The raw EEG signal is decomposed into a series of band sig-nals using discrete wavelet transform(DWT).Lastly, thesefindings have been compared to previously reported studies. We concluded that when used for slide-changing control, our self-designed EEG headband had an accuracy of 82.0 percent. We also concluded from the results that our headset performed well on the cost-effectiveness scale, had a reduced setup time of 2±0.5 min(the short-est among all being compared),and demonstrated greater ease of use.
文摘Very high concentration of flexural, shear and torsional stresses occurs at the wall-slab junctions in a laterally loaded tall building consisting of planar walls and coupling slabs. Test results showed that a substantial increase, up to 57%, in the shear strength of specimens was obtained by using the new method of shear reinforcement in a laterally loaded tall building.
文摘Due to high cost of aggregates, cement and steel in plain regions of Pakistan, low income people are unable to get their houses constructed using Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC). This implies that by utilizing reinforced baked clay instead of RCC, saving of cement aggregates and reinforcing steel could be achieved.
文摘This paper presents behaviour of Reinforced Baked Clay (RBC) beams under drop weight impact loading. It was observed that the beams of grade 30 had sustained about 1.5 times more number of impacts until steel in tension zone yielded and failed completely after necking.
文摘Coal is used as a traditional fuel for firing of clay bricks in kilns. This study shows that a saving of 25%, and 18% could be achieved when the bricks were fired using Type I and Type II fuels, respectively, compared to those fired with coal.
文摘For low cost houses in Pakistan, Reinforced Baked Clay (RBC) is considered to be a potential construction material as a substitute of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC). The results show that by increasing area of reinforcement by 50% in baked clay beams: 1) deflection was decreased to 2.5 times, and 2) crack width was reduced to three times.
文摘Construction of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) houses is unaffordable for low income people living in plains of Pakistan because of high cost of cement and aggregates. This study suggests that the RBC beams can be used economically instead of RCC beams without losing strength and safety of a building.
文摘Some disadvantages associated with conventional brick masonry are: high cost of construction, lower compressive strength and less durability. Since the baked clay blocks are larger in size than traditional bricks, it is inferred that the blocks could be used as a cheaper and stronger walling material.
文摘Attempts are being made to utilize Reinforced Baked Clay (RBC) as a substitute of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) for construction of low cost houses in plains of Pakistan. In addition to this, all the RBC beams failed within nine blows of the hammer, irrespective of area of reinforcement.
文摘Reinforced Baked Clay (RBC) seems to be potential alternative of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) for construction of low cost houses. In order to utilize RBC as a construction material for buildings, it is necessary to understand compression behaviour of baked clay. In this paper, relation between cube crushing strength and cylinder strength of baked clay is presented. For this purpose, clay beams were cast in a mould and compacted at a pressure of 6 MPa. The clay beams were dried and fired in a kiln at a temperature of 900?C. Cubes of 150 mm size were sawed from a baked clay beam. Cylinders of 150 mm diameter and 300 mm height were cut, from another baked clay beam, using core cutter machine. Both the cubes and cylinders were tested for compressive strength in Universal Testing Machine. The results showed that the cube crushing strength of baked clay was 25 MPa and the ratio of the compressive strength of the cylinders and the cubes was found to be 0.6. Suggestions for improvement of compressive strength of baked clay cylinders are also discussed.
