文摘Compared with the traditional wind turbine of a single rotor,dual-rotor wind turbines(DRWTs)have higher wind energy capture efficiency and a more complex structure. Therefore, the aerodynamic performance of the DRWT installed on the floating platform will be greatly affected by the motion caused by wind and wave loads. In this paper,5 MW and 750 kW single rotor wind turbines(SRWTs)are combined into a 5 MW-5 MW DRWT and a 5 MW-750 kW DRWT,and their power output and wake field characteristics in different motions are studied. The flow field is obtained by solving the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equation(RANS).The overset grid technique is employed to achieve the large-amplitude multiple-degree-of-freedom motion of the DRWT.The overall performance of the 5 MW single rotor wind turbine is determined by a numerical method. For the DRWTs,numerical results show that the surge motion and heave motion both have a negative effect on the power output of the DRWT.The surge motion is a critical factor that causes the power output of the DRWT to periodically change with motion. The average power output of the DRWT influenced by motion is lower than that of a DRWT with a fixed bottom. The surge motion significantly disturbs the wake of the DRWT due to the mutual interference between the upstream and downstream rotors.Under the influence of heave motion,low-velocity regions downstream of the blade tip are enhanced. This study indicates that attenuating the surge and heave motion of offshore DRWT is very significant for improving its efficiency and should be taken into consideration during the design procedure.
文摘The widely used human body injury criteria were established based on the biomechanical response of the EuroAmerican human body, without considering the differences in anthropometry and injury characteristics among different races, particularly the Chinese human body which typically has the smaller body size. The absence of such race specific design considerations negatively influences the injury prevention capability for these populations, and weakens the applicability of injury criteria. To resolve these issues, this study aims to develop a lower leg finite element model of a 50th percentile Chinese male. The model is built based on the medical images of an average size Chinese male with detailed ankle ligaments and lower leg muscles modeled.Data from sixty experiments available in the literature are used to validate its biofidelity.Using the validated model, the lower leg model is subjected to combined axial compression and bending loads to evaluate its injury criteria.Compared with a typical Euro-American human body mode, the Chinese lower leg presents reduced mechanical tolerance, and the revised tibia index may be an appropriate injury criteria for the Chinese lower leg.Additionally, the validated model reproduces the pedestrian lower leg fracture in a domestic accident.

文摘In recent years, forest fires and maritime accidents have occurred frequently, which have had a bad impact on human production and life. Thus, the development of seaplanes is an increasingly urgent demand. It is important to study the taxiing process of seaplanes for the development of seaplanes, which is a strong nonlinear fluid-structure interaction problem. In this paper, the smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH)method based on the Lagrangian framework is utilized to simulate the taxiing process of seaplanes, and the SPH results are compared with those of the finite volume method(FVM)based on the Eulerian method. The results show that the SPH method can not only give the same accuracy as the FVM but also have a strong ability to capture the splashing waves in the taxiing process, which is quite meaningful for the subsequent study of the effect of a splash on other parts of the seaplane.

文摘An ocean-acoustic joint model is developed for research of acoustic propagation uncertainty in internal wave environments. The internal waves are numerically produced by tidal forcing over a continental slope using an ocean model.Three parameters(i.e.,internal wave, source depth, and water depth)contribute to the dynamic waveguide environments, and result in stochastic sound fields. The sensitivity of the transmission loss(TL)to environment parameters, statistical characteristics of the TL variation, and the associated physical mechanisms are investigated by the Sobol sensitivity analysis method, the Monte Carlo sampling, and the coupled normal mode theory, respectively. The results show that the TL is most sensitive to the source depth in the near field, resulted from the initial amplitudes of higher-order modes;while in middle and far fields, the internal waves are responsible for more than 80%of the total acoustic propagation contribution. In addition, the standard deviation of the TL in the near field and the shallow layer is smaller than those in the middle and far fields and the deep layer.

文摘To find a better way to estimate the lift force induced by an interceptor on a high-speed mono-hull ship,a series of high-speed mono-hull ship models are designed and investigated under different conditions.Different lift forces are obtained by numerical calculations and validated by a model test in a towing tank. The factors that influence the force are the interceptor height, velocity, draft, and deadrise angle. The relationship between each factor and the induced lift force is investigated and obtained. We found that the induced lift mainly depends on the interceptor height and advancing velocity, and is proportional to the square of the interceptor height and velocity. The results also showed that the effects of the draft and deadrise angle are relatively less important, and the relationship between the induced lift and these two factors is generally linear.Based on the results,a formula including the combined effect of all factors used to estimate the lift force induced by the interceptor is developed based on systematic analysis. The proposed formula could be used to estimate the lift force induced by interceptors, especially under high-speed condition.

文摘Micron-scale crack propagation in red-bed soft rocks under hydraulic action is a common cause of engineering disasters due to damage to the hard rockesoft rockewater interface.Previous studies have not provided a theoretical analysis of the length, inclination angle, and propagation angle of micron-scale cracks, nor have they established appropriate criteria to describe the crack propagation process. The propagation mechanism of micron-scale cracks in red-bed soft rocks under hydraulic action is not yet fully understood, which makes it challenging to prevent engineering disasters in these types of rocks. To address this issue,we have used the existing generalized maximum tangential stress(GMTS)and generalized maximum energy release rate(GMERR)criteria as the basis and introduced parameters related to micron-scale crack propagation and water action. The GMTS and GMERR criteria for micronscale crack propagation in red-bed soft rocks under hydraulic action(abbreviated as the Wmic-GMTS and Wmic-GMERR criteria, respectively)were established to evaluate micron-scale crack propagation in redbed soft rocks under hydraulic action. The influence of the parameters was also described. The process of micron-scale crack propagation under hydraulic action was monitored using uniaxial compression tests(UCTs)based on digital image correlation(DIC)technology. The study analyzed the length, propagation and inclination angles, and mechanical parameters of micron-scale crack propagation to confirm the reliability of the established criteria. The findings suggest that the Wmic-GMTS and Wmic-GMERR criteria are effective in describing the micron-scale crack propagation in red-bed soft rocks under hydraulic action. This study discusses the mechanism of micron-scale crack propagation and its effect on engineering disasters under hydraulic action. It covers topics such as the internal-external weakening of nano-scale particles, lateral propagation of micron-scale cracks, weakening of the mechanical properties of millimeter-scale soft rocks, and resulting interface damage at the engineering scale. The study provides a theoretical basis for the mechanism of disasters in red-bed soft-rock engineering under hydraulic action.

文摘The underwater dry maintenance method based on a dry cabin can achieve the same maintenance quality provided on land. The establishment of a reliable seal between the dry cabin and the pipe is a prerequisite for the formation of a dry environment. In this paper,an airbag is proposed as the means to seal the dry cabin.ABAQUS finite element software was used to study the influence of the physical characteristics of the airbag on deformation characteristics and sealing performance. We also studied the adaptive sealing mechanism of the airbag under the time-varying gap condition. The simulation results show that the peak contact stress of the airbag is close to the gas pressure,so the hardness and thickness of the airbag have little effect on it.Under time-varying gap conditions, the required inflation pressure increases with the size of the gap.The simulated relationship between the gap and the inflation pressure can be referred to in order to guide the control of the air pressure of the airbag during actual operation. Finally, the similarity between the test results and simulation results demonstrates the accuracy of the simulation results.

文摘To understand the acoustic and physical properties of piston core samples collected from the Sunda continental shelf and analyze their distribution patterns, the samples were analyzed in laboratory, from which three provinces were divided in sound speed, sound speed ratio, porosity, wet bulk density, and maximum shear strength.ProvinceⅠhad lower sound speed and sound speed ratio(<1.04),high porosity, and low wet bulk density.ProvinceⅡhad higher sound speed and sound speed ratio(>1.04),low porosity, and high wet bulk density.ProvinceⅢhad the lowest sound speed and sound speed ratio(0.99),highest porosity(81%),and lowest wet bulk density(1.34 g/cm^(3)).The distribution pattern indicates that sediment movement, sediment source, topography, and hydrodynamic conditions influenced the distribution of acoustic and physical properties.Furthermore,we investigated the relationship of the maximum shear strength to the porosity and wet bulk density, and found that the maximum shear strength was proportional to both the porosity and wet bulk density. This finding has significant implications for ocean engineering applications.

文摘Offshore wind power is a kind of important clean renewable energy and has attracted increasing attention due to the rapid consumption of non-renewable energy. To reduce the high cost of energy,a possible try is to utilize the combination of wind and wave energy considering their natural correlation.A combined concept consisting of a semi-submersible wind turbine and four torus-shaped wave energy converters was proposed and numerically studied under normal operating conditions. However, the dynamic behavior of the integrated system under extreme sea conditions has not been studied yet.In the present work, extreme responses of the integrated system under two different survival modes are evaluated.Fully coupled time-domain simulations with consideration of interactions between the semi-submersible wind turbine and the torus-shaped wave energy converters are performed to investigate dynamic responses of the integrated system, including mooring tensions, tower bending moments, end stop forces, and contact forces at the Column-Torus interface. It is found that the addition of four tori will reduce the mean motions of the yaw, pitch and surge. When the tori are locked at the still water line, the whole integrated system is more suitable for the survival modes.

文摘To explore the water entry flow and impact load characteristics of northern gannets,we conducted water entry experiments using a northern gannet’s head model based on three-dimensional(3D)printing and several cone models under different Froude numbers.A high-speed camera was used to capture flow images, and an inertial measurement unit(IMU)was used to record the water entry impact loads. The results indicate that the geometric topology of the model considerably influenced the water entry flow and impact load.Specifically, the northern gannet’s head model created a smaller water entry splash crown, cavity geometry, and impact load compared with the cone models of similar sizes.

文摘Sea ice export through the Baffin Bay plays a vital role in modulating the sea ice cover variability in the Labrador Sea.In this study,satellite-derived sea ice products are used to obtain the sea ice area flux(SIAF)through the three passages in the Baffin Bay(referred to as A,B,and C for the north, middle, and south passages, respectively). The spatial variability of the monthly sea ice drift in the Baffin Bay is presented. The interannual variability and trends in SIAF via the three passages are outlined. The connection to several large-scale atmospheric circulation modes is assessed.Over the period of 1988-2015,the average annual(October to the following September)SIAF amounts to 555×10^(3) km^(2),642×10^(3) km^(2),and 551×10^(3) km^(2) through Passages A,B,and C,respectively. These quantities are less than that observed through the Fram Strait(FS,707×10^(3) km^(2))of the corresponding period. The positive trends in annual SIAF,on the order of 53.1×10^(3) km^(2)/(10 a)and 43.2×10^(3) km^(2)/(10 a)(significant at the 95%confidence level),are identified at Passages A and B,respectively. The trend of the south passage(C),however,is slightly negative(-13.3×10^(3) km^(2)/(10 a),not statistically significant). The positive trends in annual SIAF through the Passages A and B are primarily attributable to the significant increases after 2000.The connection between the Baffin Bay sea ice export and the North Atlantic Oscillation is not significant over the studied period.By contrast, the association with the cross-gate sea level pressure difference is robust in the Baffin Bay(R equals 0.69 to 0.71,depending on the passages considered),but relatively weaker than that over FS(R=0.74).

文摘To explore the relationship between dynamic characteristics and wake patterns, numerical simulations were conducted on three equal-diameter cylinders arranged in an equilateral triangle. The simulations varied reduced velocities and gap spacing to observe flow-induced vibrations(FIVs).The immersed boundary–lattice Boltzmann flux solver(IB–LBFS)was applied as a numerical solution method, allowing for straightforward application on a simple Cartesian mesh. The accuracy and rationality of this method have been verified through comparisons with previous numerical results, including studies on flow past three stationary circular cylinders arranged in a similar pattern and vortex-induced vibrations of a single cylinder across different reduced velocities. When examining the FIVs of three cylinders, numerical simulations were carried out across a range of reduced velocities(3.0≤Ur≤13.0)and gap spacing(L=3D,4D,and 5D).The observed vibration response included several regimes:the desynchronization regime, the initial branch, and the lower branch.Notably, the transverse amplitude peaked, and a double vortex street formed in the wake when the reduced velocity reached the lower branch. This arrangement of three cylinders proved advantageous for energy capture as the upstream cylinder’s vibration response mirrored that of an isolated cylinder, while the response of each downstream cylinder was significantly enhanced.Compared to a single cylinder, the vibration and flow characteristics of this system are markedly more complex. The maximum transverse amplitudes of the downstream cylinders are nearly identical and exceed those observed in a single-cylinder set-up.Depending on the gap spacing, the flow pattern varied:it was in-phase for L=3D,antiphase for L=4D,and exhibited vortex shedding for L=5D.The wake configuration mainly featured double vortex streets for L=3D and evolved into two pairs of double vortex streets for L=5D.Consequently,it well illustrates the coupling mechanism that dynamics characteristics and wake vortex change with gap spacing and reduced velocities.

文摘On the basis of the model tests, this paper explores the coupled hydrodynamic performance of the moonpool and the hull. This study aims to compare and analyze the variation in the hull heave response between the piston resonance state of the moonpool under wave excitation and the non-resonance state of the moonpool under wave-current excitation.A novel damping device specifically designed and fabricated for stepped moonpools has been developed. Before and after the installation of the damping device, the free surface response characteristics of the moonpool and heave motion response characteristics of the hull are compared. The findings show a clear correlation between the current speed and heave response characteristics of the hull.During the seakeeping design phase of the drilling vessel, the current speed is an additional critical factor that cannot be disregarded, alongside the moonpool effect.A correlation exists between the fluid dynamics occurring within the moonpool and the heave motion of the vessel hull.A reduction in the amplitude of the motion of the moonpool water results in a decrease in the heave motion of the hull. This study provides a reference for alleviating the seakeeping of a drill ship’s heave response and enhancing the safety and efficiency of the operation.

文摘This paper reports an experimental investigation on the flow of a water entry cavity formed with a water jet cavitator. To investigate the formation characteristics, systematic water entry experiments were conducted in a water tank under different water jet rates, entry velocities, entry angles, and nozzle diameters. The formation mechanism of the water entry cavity was also analyzed. Results indicate that before the model impacts the water surface for water entry with a water jet cavitator,a gas bubble is created, and its width increases as the model approaches the water surface. Moreover, the length of the water jet gradually reduces to zero due to the increase in the static pressure of the water. The formation of the cavity is directly correlated with the location of the stagnation point moving downstream from the far field of the water jet to the exit of the water jet nozzle with the increasing entry depth. The dominant parameter is the momentum ratio of the water jet and quiescent water.
