impairment, including mild cognitive impairment and dementia, can significantly affect the quality of life and independence of elderly individuals. Therefore, identifying risk factors for cognitive impairment in elderly hypertensive patients is crucial for developing effective interventions and improving health outcomes.Nutritional status is one of the potential factors that may influence cognitive function in elderly hypertensive patients.Malnutrition or inadequate nutrition can lead to various health problems, including weakened immune system, increased susceptibility to infections, and impaired physical and mental function.Furthermore, poor nutritional status has been linked to increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia in various populations. In this observational study,we aimed to investigate the nutritional status of elderly hypertensive patients and its relationship to the occurrence of cognitive impairment.By collecting baseline data on general information, body composition, and clinical indicators,we hope to identify risk factors for cognitive impairment in this patient population. The results of this study are expected to provide more scientific basis for the health management of elderly patients with hypertension, particularly in terms of maintaining good nutritional status and reducing the risk of cognitive impairment.AIM To explore the differences between clinical data and cognitive function of elderly hypertensive patients with different nutritional status, analyze the internal relationship between nutritional statuses and cognitive impairment, and build a nomogram model for predicting nutritional status in elderly hypertensive patients.METHODS The present study retrospectively analyzed 200 elderly patients admitted to our hospital for a hypertension during the period July 1,2024 to September 30,2024 as study subjects, and the 200 patients were divided into a modeling cohort(140 patients)and a validation cohort(60 patients)according to the ratio of 7:3.The modeling cohort were divided into a malnutrition group(26 cases),a malnutrition risk group(42 cases),and a normal nutritional status group(72 cases)according to the patients’Mini-Nutritional Assessment Scale(MNA)scores, and the modeling cohort was divided into a hypertension combined with cognitive impairment group(34 cases)and a hypertension cognitively normal group(106 cases)according to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale(MoCA)scores, and the validation cohort was divided into a hypertension combined with cognitive impairment group(14 cases)and hypertension cognitively normal group(46 cases). The study outcome was the occurrence of cognitive impairment in elderly hypertensive patients.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression was used to explore the relationship between the general information of the elderly hypertensive patients and the influence indicators and the occurrence of cognitive impairment, the roadmap prediction model was established and validated, the patient work receiver operating characteristic curve was used to evaluate the predictive efficacy of the model, the calibration curve was used to assess the consistency between the predicted events and the actual events, and the decision curve analysis was used to evaluate the validity of the model.Pearson correlation analysis was used to explore the relationship between nutrition-related indicators and MoCA scores.RESULTS In this research, the modeling cohort comprised 140 cases, while the verification cohort consisted of 60 cases, with no notable discrepancy in the data between the two groups. In the modeling cohort, there were significant differences in body mass index(BMI),albumin(ALB),hemoglobin(Hb)and homocysteine levels among the malnourished group, the malnourished risk group and the normal nutritional status group. The results of univariate and multivariate analysis showed that BMI[odds ratio(OR)=0.830,P=0.014],ALB(OR=0.860,P=0.028),Hb(OR=0.939,P=0.035)and MNA score(OR=0.640,P=0.000)were independent protective factors for patients without cognitive impairment, and alkaline phosphatase(ALP)(OR=1.074,P=0.000)was an independent risk factor for patients with cognitive impairment. In this study, the prediction nomogram tailored for cognitive deterioration in elderly patients with hypertension demonstrated robust predictive power and a close correspondence between predicted and observed outcomes. This model offers significant potential as a means to forestall cognitive decline in hypertensive elderly patients.ALP was negatively correlated with MoCA score, while BMI,MNA score,Hb and ALB were positively correlated with MoCA score.CONCLUSION BMI,MNA score,Hb and ALB were independent protective factors for cognitive impairment in elderly hypertensive patients and were positively correlated with MoCA score.ALP was an independent risk factor for cognitive impairment in elderly hypertensive patients and was negatively correlated with the MoCA score. The column line graph model established in the study has a good predictive value.展开更多

Two formulations of sweets based on jujube, baobab fruit powder and sweet potato puree were produced, and their nutritional values and sensory properties such as taste, smell, color and acceptability were assessed. The formulation containing the most jujube powder, baobab fruit and sweet potato puree gave the best nutritional value. The sweets are rich in calcium (259.80 mg/100 g), magnesium (67.98 mg/100 g), potassium (782.04 mg/100 g), vitamin C (32.37 mg/100 g), iron (6.45 g mg/100 g) and zinc (0.97 mg/100 g). Sensory tests on the two formulations showed acceptability scores ranging from 81.26% to 84.58%, well above the minimum acceptable threshold. Candies with jujube, baobab fruit powder and sweet potato puree could be an alternative for preventing micronutrient deficiencies.展开更多

While these dietary shifts are known to influence overall reproductive output, their specific effects on the proportional composition of egg components remain unexplored. To partially simulate the natural conditions, we conducted two trials using adult Japanese Quails (Coturnix japonica) to examine how dietary restriction and unpredictable feeding influence the proportional composition of egg components. In the first trial, quails were assigned to one of four treatments: full-fed (control) or restricted feeding at 20% (DR20), 30% (DR30), and 40% (DR40) below daily intake. In the second trial, quails were assigned to one of three treatments: full feeding (control), constant 40% restriction (DR40), or unpredictable feeding schedule (UNPR). Each trial lasted for 14 days, and birds were housed individually. Severe dietary restrictions (DR30, DR40) reduced albumen and shell mass, shell thickness, and egg volume. However, yolk mass, yolk color, egg shape index, and shell density remained unaffected across all dietary levels. Severe restrictions also increased the yolk ratio while reducing the albumen ratio, suggesting that birds may evolutionarily prioritize yolk deposition to sustain reproductive functions. However, reduced albumen content due to maternal nutritional stress may also limit essential nutrients, and disrupt the embryo's osmoregulation, which ultimately affects offspring quality. Reduced shell contents at the severe restriction levels can affect the egg's ability to provide physical protection, regulate gas exchange and control water loss, thereby influencing embryonic development. In contrast, moderate restriction (DR20) and unpredictable feeding (UNPR) had no effect on any of the egg traits. These findings suggest that quails strategically allocate resources among egg components under dietary constraints, indicating potential trade-offs in reproductive investment. The resilience observed under moderate restriction and unpredictability underscores the species' adaptive capacity in fluctuating environments.展开更多

It has been evident that integrative nutrition has a strong impact in weight management. Case Report: 5 case reports were investigated in the current study where we reported 5 cases of participants that have completed a 6-month duration of a telenutrition weight loss program, supported with weekly telemonitoring and monthly telehealth coaching following an integrative nutrition approach. All participants have significantly lost weight through a 6-month period. Additionally, each participant has worked on specific aspect in their lifestyle following the circle of life components to overcome struggles in following their diets and support weight management. All 5 participants had a significant negative correlation between weight and having fun, home cooking, spirituality, sports, and their jobs, which means that being satisfied with the mentioned (CoL) measures, lower values of the weight and increase steps. Thus, future research must carry similar interventions with long term durations and evaluate the most common aspect of life associated with obesity.展开更多

文摘Chicken meat quality directly influences consumer acceptability and is crucial for the economic success of the poultry industry.Genetics and nutrition are key determinants of the meat quality traits in broilers. This review summarizes the research advances in this field, with a focus on the genetic and nutritional foundations that regulate intramuscular fat(IMF)deposition and meat quality in chickens over the past decade. The effects of embryonic nutrition, both maternal nutrition and in ovo feeding(IOF),on skeletal muscle development, the IMF content, and meat quality traits in broilers are also discussed. In genetics,single-cell RNA sequencing revealed that de novo lipogenesis predominantly occurs in myocytes, which is key to the formation of IMF in chicken muscle tissue.Fatty acid synthase(FASN)is the key enzyme involved in this process. This discovery has reshaped the traditional understanding of intramuscular lipid metabolism in poultry.Key genes, proteins, and pathways, such as FASN,FABP4,PPARG,C/EBPα,SLC27A1;LPL,APOA1,COL1A1;PPAR and ECM–receptor interactions signaling, have been identified to regulate IMF content and distribution by modulating fatty acid metabolism and adipogenesis.LncHLFF was innovatively found to promote ectopic IMF deposition in chickens via exosome-mediated mechanisms without affecting abdominal fat deposition.MiR-27b-3p and miR-128-3p were found to inhibit adipogenic differentiation by targeting PPARG,thereby affecting IMF formation. In nutrition, nutrigenomics research has shown that fructose enhances IMF deposition by activating ChREBP,providing new targets for nutritional interventions.Adjusting dietary components, including energy, protein, amino acids, fatty acids, and phytochemicals(e.g.,rutin),has been shown to significantly improve meat quality in broilers.Maternal nutrition(e.g.,intake of energy, amino acids, vitamins, and trace elements)and IOF(e.g.,N-carbamylglutamate)have also been confirmed to significantly impact offspring meat quality, opening new avenues for improving embryonic nutrition.Based on these significant advancements, this review proposes strategies that integrate genetic and nutritional approaches. These strategies aim to modulate the differentiation fate of paraxial mesenchymal stem cells toward myogenic or adipogenic lineages and the interaction between muscle and adipose tissues. These insights would help to improve meat quality while ensuring the growth performance of broiler chickens.

文摘BACKGROUND Hypertension is a common chronic disease in the elderly population, and its association with cognitive impairment has been increasingly recognized.Cognitive impairment, including mild cognitive impairment and dementia, can significantly affect the quality of life and independence of elderly individuals. The column line graph model established in the study has a good predictive value.

文摘Deep phenotyping and genetic characterization of individuals are fundamental to assessing the metabolic status and determining nutrition-specific requirements. This study aimed to ascertain the utmost effectiveness of personalized interventions by aligning dietary adjustments with both the genotype and metabolotype of individuals. Therefore,we assessed here the usefulness of a polygenic score(PGS)characterizing a potential pro-inflammatory profile(PGSi)as a nutrigenetic tool to discern individuals from the Danish PREVENTOMICS cohort that could better respond to precision nutrition(PN)plans, specifically targeted at counteracting the low-grade inflammatory profile typically found in obesity. The cohort followed a PN plan to counteract the pro-inflammatory profile(PNi group)or generic dietary recommendations(Control)for 10 weeks.PGSi was applied for genetic stratification(Low/High).The effects of the intervention on anthropometrics and biomarkers related to inflammatory profile and carbohydrate metabolism were assessed.Around 30%of subjects had a high genetic predisposition to pro-inflammatory status(high-PGSi).These individuals demonstrated the most effective response to the dietary plan, experiencing improved body composition, with significant decreases in body weight(∆:-4.84%;P=0.039)and body fat(∆:-4.86%;P=0.007),and beneficial changes in pro-and anti-inflammatory biomarkers, with significant increases in IL-10(∆:71.3%;P=0.025)and decreases in TNF-α(∆:-3.0%;P=0.048),CRP(∆:-31.1%),ICAM1(∆:-5.8%),and MCP1(∆:-4.2%)circulating levels, compared to low-PGSi individuals. Both phenotypic and genetic stratification contributed to a better understanding of metabolic heterogeneity in response to diet. This approach allows for refinement of the prediction of individual requirements and potentially for better management of obesity.
文摘BACKGROUND Hashimoto’s thyroiditis(HT)is an autoimmune dysfunction caused by genetic and environmental changes that attack the thyroid gland.HT affects approximately 2%to 5%of the population, being more prevalent in women. It is diagnosed through a blood test(anti-thyroid peroxidase).Pharmacological treatment consists of daily administration of the synthetic hormone levothyroxine on an empty stomach. The most common signs and symptoms are:Tissue resistance to triiodothyronine T3,weight gain, dry skin, hair loss,tiredness/fatigue,and constipation, and nutritional therapy appears to help reduce these symptoms.AIM To analyze nutritional interventions for treating HT.METHODS This is an integrative review of original studies on nutritional interventions for treating Hashimoto’s disease.Articles were searched in the MEDLINE/PubMed and Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences(LILACS)databases via virtual health library, using controlled vocabulary and free terms.A total of 70 articles were found:67 from PubMed and 3 from LILACS.After exclusions,9 articles met the eligibility criteria, including dietary interventions for maintaining and restoring the patient’s quality of life.RESULTS The reviewed articles evaluated the nutritional treatment of HT through supplementation of deficient micronutrients,anti-inflammatory diets,gluten-free diets, exclusion of foods that cause food sensitivities,lactose-free diet, paleo diet, and calorie restriction diets. However, some results were controversial regarding the beneficial effects of HT.CONCLUSION In general,it was observed that nutritional interventions for HT are based on the recovery of micronutrient deficiencies, treatment of the intestinal microbiota, diet rich in foods with anti-inflammatory properties, lifestyle changes, and encouragement of healthy habits.
文摘BACKGROUND Cirrhotic patients face heightened energy demands, leading to rapid glycogen depletion, protein degradation, oxidative stress, and inflammation, which drive disease progression and complications. These disruptions cause cellular damage and parenchymal changes, resulting in vascular alterations, portal hypertension, and liver dysfunction, significantly affecting patient prognosis.AIM To analyze the association between Child–Turcotte–Pugh(CTP)scores and di-fferent nutritional indicators with survival in a 15-year follow-up cohort.METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study with 129 cirrhotic patients of both sexes aged>18 years.Diagnosis of cirrhosis was made by liver biopsy. The first year of data collection was 2007,and data regarding outcomes were collected in 2023.Data were gathered from medical records, and grouped by different methods, including CTP,handgrip strength, and triceps skinfold cutoffs. The prognostic values for mortality were assessed using Kaplan–Meier curves and multivariate binary logistic regression models.RESULTS The coefficient for CTP was the only statistically significant variable(Wald=5.193,P=0.023).This suggests that with a negative change in CTP classification score, the odds of survival decrease 52.6%.The other evaluated variables did not significantly predict survival outcomes in the model.Kaplan–Meier survival curves also indicated that CTP classification was the only significant predictor.CONCLUSION Although different classifications showed specific differences in stratification, only CTP showed significant predictive potential.CTP score remains a simple and effective predictive tool for cirrhotic patients even after longer follow-up.

文摘China faces a significant challenge with increasing cardiovascular disease(CVD)incidence and mortality rates, imposing a heavy disease burden. As of 2020,approximately 330 million individuals in China suffer from CVD,including 245 million with hypertension and 13 million with stroke, not accounting for those with cardiometabolic risk factors[1].Given this context, shifting from a diseasecentered approach to a population health-centered strategy,as outlined in the“Healthy China Action(2019-2030)”,is critical.
文摘Increasing access to locally produced, safe, nutritious and affordable complementary foods is essential to combat micronutrient deficiencies in young children in low- and middle-income countries. Candies with jujube, baobab fruit powder and sweet potato puree could be an alternative for preventing micronutrient deficiencies.

文摘Background While maternal proline(Pro)supplementation has demonstrated efficacy in enhancing placental angiogenesis and farrowing efficiency in swine, its regulatory role in fetal skeletal muscle ontogeny remains undefined. This study systematically evaluated the temporal-specific impacts of dietary Pro supplementation during critical phases of fetal myogenesis(encompassing primary myofiber formation and secondary myofiber hyperplasia)on offspring muscle development.A total of 120 sows with similar farrowing schedules were assigned to three groups:CON(basal diet),ST-Pro(0.5%Pro supplementation during secondary myofiber formation period, from d 60 gestation to farrowing),LT-Pro(0.5%Pro supplementation spanning primary and secondary myofiber formation period:from d 20 gestation to farrowing). Results LT-Pro group significantly increased the longissimus dorsi(LD)muscle mass per unit body weight in newborn piglets compared to CON group(P<0.05),while no such effect was observed in the ST-Pro group.Metabolomic profiling revealed elevated Pro,lysine, and tryptophan levels in the LD muscle of LT-Pro group piglets, accompanied by reduced branched-chain amino acids(BCAAs;leucine, isoleucine, and valine)in both serum and muscle(P<0.05).Histological analysis demonstrated a 45.74%increase in myofiber cross-sectional area in the LT-Pro group(P<0.05).At the molecular level,LT-Pro group piglets exhibited upregulated mRNA expression levels of myogenic regulatory genes(MYOD1,MYF6)and the cell cycle accelerator CCND1(P<0.05),coupled with activation of the STAT3 signaling pathway(phosphorylated STAT3 protein increased by 2.53-fold,P<0.01).Furthermore,Pro supplementation enhanced oxidative metabolism, evidenced by elevated mitochondrial biogenesis markers(the mRNA expression levels of PPARGC1A,OPA1,and SQSTM1)and a 61.58%increase in succinate dehydrogenase activity(P<0.05).Notably,LT-Pro group piglets showed a selective shift toward slow-twitch oxidative fibers, with both MyHC1 mRNA and protein expression levels significantly upregulated(P<0.05),while the mRNA expression levels of MyHCIIb showed no significant change. Conclusions This study identified the primary fiber formation period as a critical window.Supplementation with Pro during G20–114 reprogrammed offspring skeletal muscle development through STAT3-CCND1-mediated myoblast proliferation, enhanced mitochondrial bioenergetics, and oxidative fiber specification. However,no such effects were observed during G60–114.These findings propose maternal Pro intervention as a novel strategy to enhance muscle yield and metabolic efficiency in swine production, with potential applications for improving meat quality traits linked to oxidative muscle phenotypes.

文摘Under natural conditions, organisms regularly experience seasonal or unpredictable fluctuations in their diet that may shape the quantity and quality of their reproduction. The resilience observed under moderate restriction and unpredictability underscores the species' adaptive capacity in fluctuating environments.

文摘The concept of precision nutrition was first proposed almost a decade ago.Current research in precision nutrition primarily focuses on comprehending individualized variations in response to dietary intake, with little attention being given to other crucial aspects of precision nutrition. Moreover, there is a dearth of comprehensive review studies that portray the landscape and framework of precision nutrition. This review commences by tracing the historical trajectory of nutritional science, with the aim of dissecting the challenges encountered in nutrition science within the new era of disease profiles. This review also deconstructs the field of precision nutrition into four key components:the proposal of the theory for indi-vidualized nutritional requirement phenotypes;the establishment of precise methods for measuring dietary intake and evaluating nutritional status;the creation of multidimensional nutritional interven-tion strategies that address the aspects of what, how, and when to eat;and the construction of a pathway for the translation and integration of scientific research into healthcare practices, utilizing artificial intel-ligence and information platforms.Incorporating these four components, this review further discusses prospective avenues that warrant exploration to achieve the objective of enhancing health through pre-cision nutrition.
文摘Background: Integrative nutrition has been defined as providing a combination of medical nutrition therapy including a personalized investigation on the root cause of chronic diseases due to poor lifestyle. Thus, future research must carry similar interventions with long term durations and evaluate the most common aspect of life associated with obesity.
