The climatology and interannual variability of sea surface salinity (SSS) and freshwater flux (FWF) in the equatorial Pacific are analyzed and evaluated using simulations from the Beijing Normal University Earth S...The climatology and interannual variability of sea surface salinity (SSS) and freshwater flux (FWF) in the equatorial Pacific are analyzed and evaluated using simulations from the Beijing Normal University Earth System Model (BNU-ESM). The simulated annual climatology and interannual variations of SSS, FWF, mixed layer depth (MLD), and buoyancy flux agree with those observed in the equatorial Pacific. The relationships among the interannual anomaly fields simulated by BNU-ESM are analyzed to illustrate the climate feedbacks induced by FWF in the tropical Pacific. The largest interannual variations of SSS and FWF are located in the western-central equatorial Pacific. A positive FWF feedback effect on sea surface temperature (SST) in the equatorial Pacific is identified. As a response to El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), the interannual variation of FWF induces ocean processes which, in turn, enhance ENSO. During El Nino, a positive FWF anomaly in the western-central Pacific (an indication of increased precipitation rates) acts to enhance a negative salinity anomaly and a negative surface ocean density anomaly, leading to stable stratification in the upper ocean. Hence, the vertical mixing and entrainment of subsurface water into the mixed layer are reduced, and the associated E1 Nino is enhanced. Related to this positive feedback, the simulated FWF bias is clearly reflected in SSS and SST simulations, with a positive FWF perturbation into the ocean corresponding to a low SSS and a small surface ocean density in the western-central equatorial Pacific warm pool.展开更多

Current gravitational-wave detectors have achieved remarkable sensitivity around 100 Hz,enabling ground-breaking discoveries.Enhancing sensitivity at higher frequencies in the kilohertz(kHz)range promises access to ri...Current gravitational-wave detectors have achieved remarkable sensitivity around 100 Hz,enabling ground-breaking discoveries.Enhancing sensitivity at higher frequencies in the kilohertz(kHz)range promises access to rich physics,particularly the extreme conditions during the merger stage of binary neutron stars.However,the high-frequency sensitivity of Michelson-based interferometers is fundamentally limited by their linear optical cavities,which are optimized for low-frequency signal enhancement.A new configuration employing an L-shaped optical resonator was proposed to overcome this limitation,offering exceptional sensitivity in the kHz band.As a pathfinder,the 12-meter prototype at Beijing Normal University is designed to demonstrate the sensing and control schemes of this new kHz detector configuration and to explore its performance in the high-power regime with suspended optics.Beyond its primary scientific goal,the prototype also offers potential sensitivity in the megahertz(MHz)range,potentially enabling constraints on exotic sources.This paper presents an overview of the prototype,including its optical design and current development status of key components.展开更多
Three different“logics”—that of the internal strategies of the institutions,the economic pressures of the socialist market economy and the political policies of the state drive the development of a university.The d...Three different“logics”—that of the internal strategies of the institutions,the economic pressures of the socialist market economy and the political policies of the state drive the development of a university.The dynamic interaction and coexistence of the three logics has determined the transformation models of teacher-education or normal universities in China.This paper aims at describing and analyzing both the process and the forces that led to these transformations by taking East China Normal University(ECNU),Southwest University(SWU)and Yanbian University(YBU)as examples.Reliance on government and market resources has put these universities into a dilemma:On the one hand,they wanted to retain their original features so as to preserve their leading position in the“teacher education”market,and on the other,they needed to merge,expand,restructure and enhance their quality as they pursued overall development.The case analyses show that the teacher-education university’s need for self-development,which is the internal determinant,plays a critical role in its transformation.At the same time,the socioeconomic environment and national policies influence the institution while it displays considerable capacity for self-adjustment.展开更多

Just try it once (you can choose one of the exercises suggested at the end of this book) and if you are not pleasantly surprised, then I will eat my words and walk the length of the Great Wall (both ways)! 文摘Three different“logics”—that of the internal strategies of the institutions,the economic pressures of the socialist market economy and the political policies of the state drive the development of a university.The dynamic interaction and coexistence of the three logics has determined the transformation models of teacher-education or normal universities in China.This paper aims at describing and analyzing both the process and the forces that led to these transformations by taking East China Normal University(ECNU),Southwest University(SWU)and Yanbian University(YBU)as examples.Reliance on government and market resources has put these universities into a dilemma:On the one hand,they wanted to retain their original features so as to preserve their leading position in the“teacher education”market,and on the other,they needed to merge,expand,restructure and enhance their quality as they pursued overall development.The case analyses show that the teacher-education university’s need for self-development,which is the internal determinant,plays a critical role in its transformation.At the same time,the socioeconomic environment and national policies influence the institution while it displays considerable capacity for self-adjustment.

文摘This introduction hopes to make clear how simple and rewarding it is to teach (yourself or others) English by writing poems. There are two big surprises in any poetry workshop course. The students are sure it is impossible for them to write poems, especially in English. And the language teacher feels totally inadequate to run such a course, assuming it is impossible without a great deal of academic information about literature, especially English literature. Just try it once (you can choose one of the exercises suggested at the end of this book) and if you are not pleasantly surprised, then I will eat my words and walk the length of the Great Wall (both ways)! [HJ]The explanation about how to run a poetry workshop takes up some three pages. The rest of the book is made up of poems which illustrate the delightful results you can expect to get when you ask your students to do the same thing. The poems are written by graduates but the same exercises can be used as fruitfully in schools as in colleges. If the students know only some simple English words, let them write some simple English poems. Those who know only Chinese should write their poems in Chinese. 文摘The cultivation of the educator spirit among normal university students provides dual guidance in theory and practice for higher education institutions to train future teachers with noble educational sentiments and professional qualities.This study elaborates on the essential connotation of the educator spirit from six perspectives:guiding philosophy,spiritual cultivation,internal requirements,essential requirements,the soul of teacher ethics,and sources of motivation.On this basis,it explains the three major dilemmas in cultivating the educator spirit among normal university students:the cognitive dilemma regarding the understanding of the value of the educator spirit and educational identity,the integration dilemma caused by the disconnection between educational curriculum design and the penetration of the educator spirit,and the alienation dilemma arising from improper connection between educational practice and the educator spirit.Therefore,it is proposed to incorporate the educator spirit into the evaluation system for normal university students,by deepening the understanding of values,optimizing curriculum design,strengthening practice orientation,and comprehensively motivating and evaluating normal university students’recognition and practice of the educator spirit,in order to promote the inheritance and innovation of the educator spirit.
