Fast resources discovery and high Quality of Service(QoS) guarantee are the key determinants for efficient Mobile P2P(MP2P) video sharing.In this paper,we propose a CrossLayer and One-Hop Neighbour-Assisted Video Sharing(CNVS) solution in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks(MANETs).By making use of crosslayer approaches to bridge the overlay and the MAC layer and with the help of dissemination assisted by one-hop neighbours,CNVS intelligently builds the resource-centric self-organization node cluster group.In order to meet the QoS requirement,by making use of video resources access cost model,each peer can disconnect a less efficient connection with the original supplier and choose a peer that provides a low access cost as the new supplier.Simulation results also show how CNVS achieves lower average end-to-end delay,less average number of hops for video data delivery,lower routing overhead and packet loss rate,and higher network throughput than another state-of-the-art solution. 展开更多

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that was histopathologically characterized in the brain by the presence of extracellular senile plaques made of amyloid β peptides and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles composed of hyperphosphorylated Tau protein.Over the years,AD has been classified in two subgroups:early onset or familial AD and late onset or sporadic AD.On the one hand,familial AD has been described to be the result of genetic mutations that cause,in some cases,for the overproduction of amyloid β.On the other,the cause of late onset or sporadic AD is still unclear even though several hypotheses have been proposed to explain the process of severe and progressive memory and cognitive loss.In the present review,some of the current hypotheses that try to explain the origin of late onset or sporadic AD have been summarized.Also,their potential implication in the development of new drugs for the presymptomatic treatment of late onset or sporadic AD has been considered. 展开更多

MatCloud provides a high-throughput computational materials infrastructure for the integrated management of materials simulation, data, and computing resources. MatCloud provides a high-throughput computational materials infrastructure for the integrated management of materials simulation, data, and computing resources. In comparison to AFLOW, Material Project, and NoMad, MatCloud delivers two-fold functionalities: a computational materials platform where users can do on-line job setup, job submission and monitoring only via Web browser, and a materials properties simulation database. It is developed under Chinese Materials Genome Initiative and is a China own proprietary high-throughput computational materials infrastructure. MatCloud has been on line for about one year, receiving considerable registered users, feedbacks, and encouragements. Many users provided valuable input and requirements to MatCloud. In this paper, we describe the present MatCloud, future visions, and major challenges. Based on what we have achieved, we will endeavour to further develop MatCloud in an open and collaborative manner and make MatCloud a world known China-developed novel software in the pressing area of high-throughput materials calculations and materials properties simulation database within Material Genome Initiative. 展开更多

The World Health Organization recommends that the daily intake of added sugars should make up no more than 10% of total energy.The consumption of sugarsweetened beverages is the main source of added sugars.Fructose,together with glucose,as a component of high fructose corn syrups or as a component of the sucrose molecule,is one of the main sweeteners present in this kind of beverages.Data from prospective and intervention studies clearly point to high fructose consumption,mainly in the form of sweetened beverages,as a risk factor for several metabolic diseases in humans.The incidence of hypertension,nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD),dyslipidemia(mainly hypertriglyceridemia),insulin resistance,type 2 diabetes mellitus,obesity,and the cluster of many of these pathologies in the form of metabolic syndrome is higher in human population segments that show high intake of fructose.Adolescent and young adults from lowincome families are especially at risk.We recently reviewed evidence from experimental animals and human data that confirms the deleterious effect of fructose on lipid and glucose metabolism.In this present review we update the information generated in the past 2 years about high consumption of fructose-enriched beverages and the occurrence of metabolic disturbances,especially NAFLD,type 2 diabetes mellitus,and metabolic syndrome.We have explored recent data from observational and experimental human studies,as well as experimental data from animal and cell models.Finally,using information generated in our laboratory and others,we provide a view of the molecular mechanisms that may be specifically involved in the development of liver lipid and glucose metabolic alterations after fructose consumption in liquid form. 展开更多

AIM To assess in rodent and human adipocytes the antilipolytic capacity of hexaquis(benzylammonium)decavanadate(B6V10),previously shown to exert antidiabetic effects in rodent models,such as lowering free fatty acids(FFA)and glucose circulating levels.METHODS Adipose tissue(AT)samples were obtained after informed consent from overweight women undergoing plastic surgery.Comparison of the effects of B6V10 and reference antilipolytic agents(insulin,benzylamine,vanadate)on the lipolytic activity was performed on adipocytes freshly isolated from rat,mouse and human AT.Glycerol release was measured using colorimetric assay as an index of lipolytic activity.The influence of B6V10 and reference agents on glucose transport into human fat cells was determined using the radiolabelled 2-deoxyglucose uptake assay.RESULTS In all the species studied,B6V10 exhibited a dosedependent inhibition of adipocyte lipolysis when triglyceride breakdown was moderately enhanced byβ-adrenergic receptor stimulation.B6V10 exerted on human adipocyte a maximal lipolysis inhibition of glycerol release that was stronger than that elicited by insulin.However,B6V10 did not inhibit basal and maximally stimulated lipolysis.When incubated at dose≥10μmol/L,B6V10 stimulated by twofold the glucose uptake in human fat cells,but-similarly to benzylamine-without reaching the maximal effect of insulin,while it reproduced one-half of the insulin-stimulation of lipogenesis in mouse fat cells.CONCLUSION B6V10 exerts insulin-like actions in adipocytes,including lipolysis inhibition and glucose transport activation.B6V10 may be useful in limiting lipotoxicity related to obesity and insulin resistance. 展开更多

Lactoferrin is an antimicrobial prote in characterized by the exertion of many protective functions,including antibacterial,antifungal,antiviral,and antiparasitic properties,as well as anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities(Kruzel et al.,2017).Lactoferrin is one of the major proteins present in exocrine secretions,including saliva,and is therefore associated with host defense against oral pathogens and control of the oral microbiome.In recent years,it has become clear that alterations in the oral microbiome may contribute to opportunistic pathogen infections in the brains of Alzheimer’s disease(AD)patients and thus participate in or contribute to the development of this neurodegenerative disease(Sureda et al.,2020).Pathogenic oral microbes can affect neurological processes by entering brain tissue through various pathways and directly damaging the central nervous system.In the central nervous system,oral microbes may trigger an immune response that increases amyloidβ(Aβ)production and may even trigger the Aβcascade to promote the onset of AD,as we discuss in our previous study supporting the“infectious hypothesis”in AD(González-Sánchez et al.,2020). 展开更多

With the development of wireless mobile communication technology,the demand for wireless communication rate and frequency increases year by year.Existing wireless mobile communication frequency tends to be saturated,which demands for new solutions.Terahertz(THz)communication has great potential for the future mobile communications(Beyond 5G),and is also an important technique for the high data rate transmission in spatial information network.THz communication has great application prospects in military-civilian integration and coordinated development.In China,important breakthroughs have been achieved for the key techniques of THz high data rate communications,which is practically keeping up with the most advanced technological level in the world.Therefore,further intensifying efforts on the development of THz communication have the strategic importance for China in leading the development of future wireless communication techniques and the standardization process of Beyond 5G.This paper analyzes the performance of the MIMO channel in the Terahertz(THz)band and a discrete mathematical method is used to propose a novel channel model.Then,a channel capacity model is proposed by the combination of path loss and molecular absorption in the THz band based on the CSI at the receiver.Simulation results show that the integration of MIMO in the THz band gives better data rate and channel capacity as compared with a single channel. 展开更多

Among all contaminants of emerging interest,drugs are the ones that give rise to the greatest concern.Any of the multiple stages of the drug's life cycle(production,consumption and waste management)is a possible entry point to the different environmental matrices.Psychiatric drugs have received special attention because of two reasons.First,their use is increasing.Second,many of them act on phylogenetically highly conserved neuroendocrine systems,so they have the potential to affect many non-target organisms.Currently,wastewater is considered the most important source of drugs to the environment.Furthermore,the currently available wastewater treatment plants are not specifically prepared to remove drugs,so they reach practically all environmental matrices,even tap water.As drugs are designed to produce pharmacological effects at low concentrations,they are capable of producing ecotoxicological effects on microorganisms,flora and fauna,even on human health.It has also been observed that certain antidepressants and antipsychotics can bioaccumulate along the food chain.Drug pollution is a complicated and diffuse problem characterized by scientific uncertainties,a large number of stakeholders with different values and interests,and enormous complexity.Possible solutions consist on acting at source,using medicines more rationally,eco-prescribing or prescribing greener drugs,designing pharmaceuticals that are more readily biodegraded,educating both health professionals and citizens,and improving coordination and collaboration between environmental and healthcare sciences.Besides,end of pipe measures like improving or developing new purification systems(biological,physical,chemical,combination)that eliminate these residues efficiently and at a sustainable cost should be a priority.Here,we describe and discuss the main aspects of drug pollution,highlighting the specific issues of psychiatric drugs. 展开更多

The adsorbent was characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), elemental analysis,~3C CPMAS NMR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and BET surface area analysis. The dependence of zinc extraction on various analytical parameters such as pH, type and amount of eluent, sample flow rate and interfering ions were investigated in detail. The material exhibited superior adsorption efficiency for Zn(II) with high metal loading capacity of 1.0 mmol/g under optimum conditions. After adsorption, the recovery (〉 98%) of metal ions was accomplished using 1.0 mol/L HNO3 as an eluent. The sorbent was also regenerated by microwave treatment in milder acidic environment (0.1 mol/L HNO3). The lower detection limit and preconcentration factor of the present method were found out to be 0.04 ~tg/L and 312.5 respectively. The modified silica surface possessed excellent selectivity for the target analytes and the adsorption/desorption process remained effective for at least ten consecutive cycles. The optimized procedure was successfully implemented for the extraction of Zn(II) from mycorrhizal treated fly ash and pharmaceutical samples with reproducible results. 展开更多

The deployment of distributed multi-controllers for Software-Defined Networking(SDN)architecture is an emerging solution to improve network scalability and management.However,the network control failure affects the dynamic resource allocation in distributed networks resulting in network disruption and low resilience.Thus,we consider the control plane fault tolerance for cost-effective and accurate controller location models during control plane failures.This fault-tolerance strategy has been applied to distributed SDN control architecture,which allows each switch to migrate to next controller to enhance network performance.In this paper,the Reliable and Dynamic Mapping-based Controller Placement(RDMCP)problem in distributed architecture is framed as an optimization problem to improve the system reliability,quality,and availability.By considering the bound constraints,a heuristic state-of-the-art Controller Placement Problem(CPP)algorithm is used to address the optimal assignment and reassignment of switches to nearby controllers other than their regular controllers.The algorithm identifies the optimal controller location,minimum number of controllers,and the expected assignment costs after failure at the lowest effective cost.A metaheuristic Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)algorithm was combined with RDMCP to form a hybrid approach that improves objective function optimization in terms of reliability and cost-effectiveness.The effectiveness of our hybrid RDMCP-PSO was then evaluated using extensive experiments and compared with other baseline algorithms.The findings demonstrate that the proposed hybrid technique significantly increases the network performance regarding the controller number and load balancing of the standalone heuristic CPP algorithm. 展开更多

We propose and demonstrate a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL)based on zinc-oxide/polydimethylsiloxane(ZnO/PDMS)saturable absorber(SA)that evanescently interacts with the light on a tapered fiber.The ZnO/PDMS composite is coated on the whole surface of the tapered fiber to guarantee the maximum efficiency of the SA device,with a measured insertion loss of 0.87 dB and a modulation depth of 6.4%.The proposed laser can generate soliton mode-locking operation at a threshold power of 33.07 mW.The generated output pulse yields a repetition rate and pulse width of 9.77 MHz and 1.03 ps,respectively.These results indicate that the proposed ZnO/PDMS-clad tapered fiber could be useful as an efficient,compatible,and low-cost SA device for ultrafast laser applications. 展开更多

Green spaces in urban and suburban areas play a significant role in helping settlements adapt to climate change.The design,quantity,quality,and location of green spaces influence their ability to provide benefits to people and enhance the quality of life.Private green spaces,if adequately managed,can enhance the environmental quality.This study,based on a questionnaire survey and the Motivation/Attitude-Driven Behaviour(MADB)model,investigated how the attitudes and behaviours of residents shape private green spaces in 12 settlements of the 4 city regions(Cluj region,Nitra region,Kecskemét region,and Györ region)in 3 Central European countries(Hungary,Slovakia,and Romania).The results showed that beautiful natural environment,abundance of green spaces,beautiful settlement and streetscape,and village atmosphere were mentioned most often,along with good quality of life,with a mention rate of over 70.00%in the four city regions.Convenience also played a significant role in the management of green spaces,showing that convenience factors(less work,less waste,and cheaper management)more important for those who live in settlements nearer to the cities.The importance of biodiversity and ecology was positively correlated with socio-economic status such as education and financial situation.However,the importance of the utility of green spaces was less prevalent among original villagers and settlers.Moreover,we found that the percentage of green spaces of settlers is slightly higher than that of original villagers.The results of factor analysis revealed that socio-economic status can influence respondents’attitudes towards green spaces.It suggests to increase ecological awareness of residents,especially for new settlers,and promote good management techniques for green spaces.This study can improve the awareness of urban planners about the importance of green spaces in suburban areas. 展开更多

By using the teleseismic receiver function method, this paper analyzes the crustal thickness and Vp/Vs ratios beneath the 4 National seismic stations (KMI, TNC, CD2 and PZH) in the Sichuan-Yunnan area. This study gives the variance of Moho depths and velocity ratios of the 4 stations in different directions. The results show that the Moho depth beneath the Kunming station is around 50km, and the vdocity ratio varies between 1.62 and 1.69. The thickness of crust and the velocity ratio do not change much with the direction. The crust beneath Tengchong station shows clear directivity, being 40.7km thick in the northeast and 49.7km thick in the southeast. The difference of the Vp/Vs values is remarkable between the two directions, reaching 0.2. The Chengdu station also has shallow Moho, about 40km, but is 8km deeper in the northeast and southwest and the vdocity ratio has a change of 0.13 between the two directions. The crust beneath the Panzhihua station is stable. In all directions, the Moho depth is around 60km and the Vp/Vs ratio doesn't change significantly. 展开更多

Objective: To establish a DNA detection platform based on a tapered optical fiber to detect Leptospira DNA by targeting the leptospiral secY gene.Methods: The biosensor works on the principle of light propagating in the special geometry of the optical fiber tapered from a waist diameter of 125 to 12 μm. The fiber surface was functionalized through a cascade of chemical treatments and the immobilization of a DNA capture probe targeting the secY gene. The presence of the target DNA was determined from the wavelength shift in the optical transmission spectrum.Results: The biosensor demonstrated good sensitivity, detecting Leptospira DNA at 0.001 ng/μL, and was selective for Leptospira DNA without cross-reactivity with non-leptospiral microorganisms. The biosensor specifically detected DNA that was specifically amplified through the loop-mediated isothermal amplification approach.Conclusions: These findings warrant the potential of this platform to be developed as a novel alternative approach to diagnose leptospirosis. 展开更多

A Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser(EDFL)incorporating zinc-oxide(ZnO)nanoparticles-based saturable absorber(SA)is proposed and demonstrated.To form the SA,the ZnO nanoparticles,which are originally in the powder form,are first dissolved in ethanol and subsequently deposited onto the surface of fiber ferrule by using the adhesion effect with the evaporation technique.By integrating the ZnO nanoparticle-based SA into a laser cavity of an EDFL,a self-started and stable Q-switching is achieved at a low threshold power of 20.24 mW.As the pump power is increased,the pulse repetition rate is tunable from 10.34 kHz to 25.59 kHz while pulse duration decreases from 21.39μs to 3.65μs.Additionally,this Q-switched laser has a maximum energy per pulse of 19.34 nJ and an average output power of 0.46 mW.These results indicate the feasibility and functionality of the ZnO nanoparticles-based SA for Q-switched generation,which offers the flexibility and easy integration of the SA into a ring laser cavity. 展开更多
