A New Fuzzy Number Similarity Measure Based on Quadratic-Mean Operator for Handling Fuzzy Recommendation Problems

This study presents a new approach that advances the algorithm of similarity measures between generalized fuzzy numbers. Following a brief introduction to some properties of the proposed method, a comparative analysis based on 36 sets of generalized fuzzy numbers was performed, in which the degree of similarity of the fuzzy numbers was calculated with the proposed method and seven methods established by previous studies in the literature. The results of the analytical comparison show that the proposed similarity outperforms the existing methods by overcoming their drawbacks and yielding accurate outcomes in all calculations of similarity measures under consideration. Finally, in a numerical example that involves recommending cars to customers based on a nine-member linguistic term set, the proposed similarity measure proves to be competent in addressing fuzzy number recommendation problems. 展开更多

A vertical (laterally averaged) two-dimensional hydrodynamic model is developed for tides, tidal current, and salinity in a branched estuarine system. The governing equations are solved with the hydrostatic pressure distribution assumption and the Boussinesq approximation. An explicit scheme is employed to solve the continuity equations. The momentum and mass balance equations are solved implicitly in the Cartesian coordinate system. The tributaries are governed by the same dynamic equations. A control volume at the junctions is designed to conserve mass and volume transport in the finite difference schemes, based on the physical principle of continuum medium of fluid. Predictions by the developed model are compared with the analytic solutions of steady wind-driven circulatory flow and tidal flow. The model results for the velocities and water surface elevations coincide with analytic results. The model is then applied to the Tanshui River estuarine system. Detailed model calibration and verification have been conducted with measured water surface elevations, tidal current, and salinity distributions. The overall performance of the model is in qualitative agreement with the available field data. The calibrated and verified numerical model has been used to quantify the tidal prism and flushing rate in the Tanshui River-Tahan Stream, Hsintien Stream, and Keelung River. 展开更多

In this paper, we studied empirically and analyzed the well-known smoothing methods of Good-Turing and advanced Good-Turing for language models on large sizes Chinese corpus. In the paper, ten models are generated sequentially on various size of corpus, from 30 M to 300 M Chinese words of CGW corpus. In our experiments, the smoothing methods;Good-Turing and Advanced Good-Turing smoothing are evaluated on inside testing and outside testing. Based on experiments results, we analyzed further the trends of perplexity of smoothing methods, which are useful for employing the effective smoothing methods to alleviate the issue of data sparseness on various sizes of language models. Sensor nodes in a wireless sensor network (WSN) are typically powered by batteries, thus the energy is constrained. It is our design goal to efficiently utilize the energy of each sensor node to extend its lifetime, so as to prolong the lifetime of the whole WSN. In this paper, we propose a path-based data aggregation scheme (PBDAS) for grid-based wireless sensor networks. In order to extend the lifetime of a WSN, we construct a grid infrastructure by partitioning the whole sensor field into a grid of cells. Each cell has a head responsible for aggregating its own data with the data sensed by the others in the same cell and then transmitting out. In order to efficiently and rapidly transmit the data to the base station (BS), we link each cell head to form a chain. Each cell head on the chain takes turn becoming the chain leader responsible for transmitting data to the BS. Aggregated data moves from head to head along the chain, and finally the chain leader transmits to the BS. In PBDAS, only the cell heads need to transmit data toward the BS. Therefore, the data transmissions to the BS substantially decrease. Besides, the cell heads and chain leader are designated in turn according to the energy level so that the energy depletion of nodes is evenly distributed. Simulation results show that the proposed PBDAS extends the lifetime of sensor nodes, so as to make the lifetime of the whole network longer. 展开更多

The optimal portfolios are then visualized on Decision Balls to assist investors in making investment decisions. By observing the Decision Balls, investors can see the optimal portfolios, compare the optimal weights provided by the different models, view the cluster of funds, and even find substitute funds if preferred funds are not available. 展开更多

To solve the Laplacian problems,we adopt a meshless method with the multiquadric radial basis function(MQRBF)as a basis whose center is distributed inside a circle with a fictitious radius.A maximal projection technique is developed to identify the optimal shape factor and fictitious radius by minimizing a merit function.A sample function is interpolated by theMQ-RBF to provide a trial coefficient vector to compute the merit function.We can quickly determine the optimal values of the parameters within a preferred rage using the golden section search algorithm.The novel method provides the optimal values of parameters and,hence,an optimal MQ-RBF;the performance of the method is validated in numerical examples.Moreover,nonharmonic problems are transformed to the Poisson equation endowed with a homogeneous boundary condition;this can overcome the problem of these problems being ill-posed.The optimal MQ-RBF is extremely accurate.We further propose a novel optimal polynomial method to solve the nonharmonic problems,which achieves high precision up to an order of 10^(−11). 展开更多

We retrieve unknown nonlinear large space-time dependent forces burdened with the vibrating nonlinear Euler-Bernoulli beams under varied boundary data,comprising two-end fixed,cantilevered,clamped-hinged,and simply supported conditions in this study.Even though some researchers used several schemes to overcome these forward problems of Euler-Bernoulli beams;however,an effective numerical algorithm to solve these inverse problems is still not available.We cope with the homogeneous boundary conditions,initial data,and final time datum for each type of nonlinear beam by employing a variety of boundary shape functions.The unknown nonlinear large external force can be recuperated via back-substitution of the solution into the nonlinear Euler-Bernoulli beam equation when we acquire the solution by utilizing the boundary shape function scheme and deal with a smallscale linear system to gratify an additional right-side boundary data.For the robustness and accuracy,we reveal that the current schemes are substantiated by comparing the recuperated numerical results of four instances to the exact forces,even though a large level of noise up to 50%is burdened with the overspecified conditions.The current method can be employed in the online real-time computation of unknown force functions in space-time for varied boundary supports of the vibrating nonlinear beam. 展开更多

In this paper,we address 3D inverse Cauchy issues of highly nonlinear elliptic equations in large cuboids by utilizing the new 3D homogenization functions of different orders to adapt all the specified boundary data.We also add the average classification as an approximate solution to the nonlinear operator part,without requiring to cope with nonlinear equations to resolve the weighting coefficients because these constructions are owned many conditions about the true solution.The unknown boundary conditions and the result can be retrieved straightway by coping with a small-scale linear system when the outcome is described by a new 3D homogenization function,which is right to find the numerical solutions with the errors smaller than the level of noise being put on the over-specified Neumann conditions on the bottom of the cuboid.Besides,note that the new homogenization functions method(HFM)does not require dealing with the regularization and highly nonlinear equations.The robustness and accuracy of the HFM are verified by comparing the recovered results of several numerical experiments to the exact solutions in the entire region,even though a very large level of noise 50%is imposed on the over specified Neumann conditions.The numerical errors of our scheme are in the order of O(10^(−1))-O(10^(−4)). 展开更多

Nonpoint source pollution has gradually received attention during stormwater flush in highway runoff.The understanding the pollutant characteristics will be criticat issue to treat these types of pollution.In the present study,two monitoring stations were selected to measure hydrology and to take sampling during first flushing events at the Zhong-Shan freeway and East-West expressway in the Miaoli County,Taiwan.The results of monitoring stations in 2007 storm events found that normally the peak concentrations of total suspended solids(TSS)and heavy metals occurred at the initial stormwater and then the concentrations decreased when the measured time elapsed.The highest and lowest heavy metal concentrations were Fe and Ni,respectively,during the stormwater.Particle size distribution(PSD)mostly ranged from 12μm and 96μm at two measured sites.The event mean concentrations(EMCs)and loadings of TSS and heavy metals were also correlated with total runoff and total rainfall. 展开更多

In order to have a better understanding of the flooding phenomena inside electrode, it is important to evaluate various discharge conditions of the flooded electrodes. A model of flooded porous electrode under the influence of potential sweep was developed to evaluate the flooding conditions in-situ. The hysteresis of current density vs. time was observed at high sweep rates (1 O0 mV.sl). It was not observed at low sweep rate (0.1 mV-s~). In this study, these characteristics of flooding and hysteresis conditions were found to be markedly dependent on the potential scan rate. These dynamic behaviors are interpreted in terms of water saturation response, velocity of water movement, and evaporation rate of water. 展开更多

Hakka is a special Chinese ethnic group. To explore the origin and history of Hakka people and their culture, this study starts with the genealogy. After several Hakka genealogies collected, the content analysis is performed in this study. According to the qualitative data analyses, this study designs the pedigree metadata standards for Hakka to implement the union catalog. The Hakka Pedigree Metadata is comprised of many individual family and ancestors, each of which has a process in place for archiving and distribution of genealogy. Hakka genealogical metadata contains the following types of constructs. 1) Pedigree: use given name and lines expressed the genetically related. 2) Individual: describe the personal information. 3) Family History: the story of the ancestors is narrated. 4) Bibliography: description of the genealogical book. 5) Miscellany: included the unique documents that could not categorized in the above four classification. Results of this study can be applied to genealogies integration and implement the union catalog. 展开更多

This study utilizes a time-precedence network technique to construct two models of multi-mode resource constrained project scheduling problem with discounted cash flows (MRCPSPDCF), individually including the progress payment (PP) and the payment at an equal time interval (ETI). The objective of each model is to maximize the net present value (NPV) for all cash flows in the project, subject to the related operational constraints. The models are characterized as NP-hard. A heuristic algorithm, coupled with two upper bound solutions, is proposed to efficiently solve the models and evaluate the heuristic algorithm performance which was not performed in past studies. The results show that the performance of proposed models and heuristic algorithm is good. 展开更多

The genealogy is one kind of digital archives. There are many researches focusing on the digitization of family history and genealogical material. There are three types of genealogy tourism in Hakka ethnic group, including homeland tourism, family temple names tourism, and common ancestor tourism. According to the genealogy curious and return intention to homeland, there are four kinds of ancestral tourists. The recognition of the role of technology and the increasing use of the internet for genealogy development has offered new opportunities to sell accommodation and other tourism-related products. The genealogy tourism marketing matrix has four alternatives of marketing strategies: well-developed genealogy tourism, enhance ancestral connection, improve tourism infrastructure, and potential genealogy tourism. Responding to this, this study proposed four key factors which are identified to have facilitated the development of genealogy tourism, including information communication technology, resources, search for identity, and postmodern forms of tourism. There are several challenging issues in linking genealogy and tourism including interpretation, marketing built genealogy, planning for genealogy, and the interdependencies between genealogy tourism and the Hakka cultural industry. 展开更多

A broad range of companies around the world has welcomed artificial intelligence(AI)technology in daily practices because it provides decision-makers with comprehensive and intuitive messages about their operations and assists them in formulating appropriate strategies without any hysteresis.This research identifies the essential components of AI applications under an internal audit framework and provides an appropriate direction of strategies,which relate to setting up a priority on alternatives with multiple dimensions/criteria involvement that need to further consider the interconnected and intertwined relationships among them so as to reach a suitable judgment.To obtain this goal and inspired by a model ensemble,we introduce an innovative fuzzy multiple rule-based decision making framework that integrates soft computing,fuzzy set theory,and a multi-attribute decision making algorithm.The results display that the order of priority in improvement—(A)AI application strategy,(B)AI governance,(D)the human factor,and(C)data infrastructure and data quality—is based on the magnitude of their impact.This dynamically enhances the implementation of an AI-driven internal audit framework as well as responds to the strong rise of the big data environment.Highlights Artificial intelligence(AI)promotes the sustainability development of audit tasks.A fuzzy MRDM model extracts key factors from large amounts of data.Fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory analysis accounts for dependence and feedback among factors.An effective framework of AI-driven business audit is proposed in which“AI cognition of senior executives”is the most important criterion. 展开更多

Therefore, an artificial neural network (ANN) technique using a back-propagation neural network (BPNN) and a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) is adopted as an effective alternative in salinity simulation studies. The present study focuses on comparing the performance of BPNN, RBFNN, and three-dimensional hydrodynamic models as applied to a tidal estuarine system. The observed salinity data sets collected from 18 to 22 May, 16 to 22 October, and 26 to 30 October 2002 (totaling 4320 data points) were used for BPNN and RBFNN model training and for hydrodynamic model calibration. The data sets collected from 30 May to 2 June and 11 to 15 November 2002 (totaling 2592 data points) were adopted for BPNN and RBFNN model verification and for hydrodynamic model verification. The results revealed that the ANN (BPNN and RBFNN) models were capable of predicting the nonlinear time series behavior of salinity to the multiple forcing signals of water stages at different stations and freshwater input at upstream boundaries. The salinity predicted by the ANN models was better than that predicted by the physically based hydrodynamic model. This study suggests that BPNN and RBFNN models are easy-to-use modeling tools for simulating the salinity variation in a tidal estuarine system. 展开更多

A Concept Compact City Vehicle Design for the Disabled Aging People

The aging people have difficulties in getting in and out of the compact car, decreasing their chance to go outdoors. The present study is based on observation of six disabled aged users of light to moderate physical disability in moving inside and getting in and out of a car. From the video and interviews, problems the disabled aged people encountered in using compact cars were addressed. To solve the inconvenience and difficulty elderly disabled passengers have in a compact car, a concept design of a welfare vehicle was developed. In the concept welfare vehicle, a big hand bar on the side of the car door that can be controlled with the operation of car door was proposed to help the aging people support their body. Moreover, special enlarged chair, hand grip, and lighting under the rear seat were offered to help the aging people get in and out of the ear. In addition, a hand grip hidden on the ceiling can help the elderly disabled passengers move around inside a compact car. 展开更多
