In vitro gas production technique(IVGPT) was used with the objective of determining the inclusion effect of live cells of two strains of Candida yeast on in vitro ruminal fermentation of two fibrous substrates. In order to achieve this, two experiments were performed: A) using oat straw(Avena sativa) as substrate; B) using alfalfa hay(Medicabo sativa) as substrate, comparing the effect of two different strains of Candida genre, both isolated from the rumen, on the mentioned substrates. Levica 25(Candida tropicalis) yeast belongs to the culture collection of the Institute of Animal Science, Cuba, and Levazoot 15(Candida norvegensis) yeast is part of the collection of the Faculty of Zootechnology and Ecology of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, Mexico. Both strains demonstrated their potential in activating the ruminal fermentation. They stimulated(P〈0.0001) the ruminal fermentation of the substrates under study. However, the Levazoot strain stimulated the dry matter(DM) fermentation of alfalfa in 21.43%, more than Levica 25. It is concluded that there is an influence of yeast strain and diet on the rumen environment and, therefore, it is important to select the appropriate strain in every production condition. 展开更多

This paper analyzed the temporal and spatial evolution of vegetation dynamics in various land covers in the basin of the Laguna Bustillos, Region of Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. We used an NDVI time series for the months of March to April (early spring). The series was constructed from Landsat TM images for the period 1986-2011. The results show an increase of NDVI for vegetated areas, especially in conifer cover, while shrub and grassland showed a positive trend but with lower statistical significance. The increase in minimum temperatures in early spring, during the study period, was the most important factor in explaining the increase of NDVI in vegetated areas. A spatially distributed analysis shows large areas without an NDVI trend, corresponding to areas with sparse vegetation cover (degraded areas). Moreover, there are also areas with a negative trend (loss of vegetation), explained by the exploitation of trees to produce firewood which is mainly carried out by the ejidos in the region. These results help to focus human and financial resources in places where the benefit will be greatest. 展开更多

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of inclusion of fermented apple bagasse (FAB) obtained through solid state fermentation on pH, ammonia nitrogen (N-NH3), volatile fatty acids (VFA) content, in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), lactic acid and microbial counting of alfalfa hay under in vitro rumen environment; four levels of FAB were evaluated (0, 0.25, 0.50 and 0. 75 g/dry matter of FAB) replacing 1.5 g dry matter (DM) of alfalfa hay and incubated at different fermentation times (0, 4, 8, 12 and 24 h) using a complete random design with repeated measures on time. Counts of live yeast colonies (6.08, 6.33, 6.24 and 6.51 CFU/mL expressed as log 10) was higher when FAB was included in the different levels up to the 12 h of fermentation (P 〈 0.0001); lactic acid content also increased as FAB was included in the different levels (10.61, 13.86, 16.84 and 14.57μg/mL) up to the 12 h of incubation (P 〈 0.001). Nevertheless, the other variables measured as pH, N-NH3, VFA, IVDMD, total bacteria and fungi counts, were not affected by the treatments. It is concluded that substitution of FAB by alfalfa hay in an in vitro rumen ecosystem positively modified live yeast colonies and lactic acid concentration, without effect on the other fermentative and microbial parameters of the in vitro rumen environment, but considering mixes of FAB and alfalfa hay as a quality ingredient for the feeding of ruminants. 展开更多

Background Bacterial vaginosis is a polymicrobial syndrome in which the homeostasis exerted by the Latobacillus species that protect the vaginal mucosa has been lost. This study explored the data balancing process with the intention of improving the quality of association rules. The article aimed to balance the unbalanced multiclass dataset to improve association rule creation. Methods A dataset with 201 observations and 58 variables was analyzed.A preconstructed dataset was used. The authors collected the data between August 2016 and October 2018 in Tabasco,Mexico. The study population comprised sexually active women ages 18 to 50 who underwent gynecological inspection at the infectious and metabolic diseases research laboratory at the Universidad Juarez Autonoma de Tabasco. To determine the best κ-value,the random-forest algorithm was used and the balancing was performed with the synthetic minority over-sampling technique(SMOTE),random over-sampling examples(ROSE),and adaptive syntetic sampling approach for imbalanced learning(ADASYN)algorithms. The Apriori algorithm created the rules and to select rules with statistical significance, the is.redundant(),is.significant(),and is.maximal()functions and quality metric Fisher’s exact tes were used. The biological validation was carried out by the expert(bacteriologist). Results The ADASYN algorithm at K=9 the out of the bag(OOB)error was zero, this was the best𝐾-values.In the balancing process the ADASYN algorithm show best the performance. From the dataset balanced with ADASYN,the apriori algorithm created the association rules and the selection with the quality metric Fisher’s exact test, and the biological validation reported 13 rules.Gram-bacteria Atopobium vaginae,Gardnerella vaginalis,Megasphaera filotipo 1,Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma parvum were detected by the apriori algorithm from the balanced dataset. Conclusion Balancing may improve the creation of association rules to efficiently model the bacteria that cause bacterial vaginosis. 展开更多

Biosensor development has recently advanced as a result of their strong and indisputable uses as analytical methods in a variety of sectors, including medicine, food industry, environmental monitoring, metabolism, agriculture, military, and security. The popularity of biosensors as devices for a variety of applications may be ascribed to their distinct advantages of fast or rapid analysis, high sensitivity, minimal sample demand and preparation, and no need for the specific skill of operation that traditional analytical procedures require. We attempted to update earlier studies in this study by incorporating other materials that have been in use but have received less attention, such as carbon nano-onions(CNOs),metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),and biopolymers for biosensor manufacturing and design based on their unique properties. The assessment also took into account applicable applications in many sectors.Although considerable progress has been made in the application of biosensors, there is still a need for research development and enhancement, particularly in transforming most of the laboratory experiments that have already been published into portable on-site and implementable in the public domains. 展开更多

Here,we report a label-free optical relative refractive index(RI)sensing technique based on the image contrast of surface plasmon resonance microscopy(SPRM).The positive or negative contrast of a SPRM pattern reflects the relative RI of a nanosized object to the medium.Through directly imaging the relative RI,we classified two kinds of surface nanobubbles generated by varied pathways. The former type of nanobubbles nucleated from local oversaturation of gas molecules had a RI lower than that of water and a transient lifetime. The second type of nanobubbles formed by a methanol−water exchange process had a RI higher than that of water and a long lifetime. The relative RI of surface nanobubbles indicated that the gas state is sparse for transient nanobubbles and compressed inside the stable nanobubbles. 展开更多
