This study concentrates on the specification of CESS’s physical behaviors at the DIK level of abstraction, and proposes a model driven framework for efficiently developing simulation models within model-driven engineering(MDE). Technically, this framework integrates the four-layer metamodeling architecture and a set of model transformation techniques with the objective of reducing model heterogeneity and enhancing model continuity. As a proof of concept, a torpedo example is illustrated to explain how physical models are developed following the proposed framework. Finally, a combat scenario is constructed to demonstrate the availability, and a further verification is shown by a reasonable agreement between simulation results and field observations.展开更多

To reveal whether these two activities can modify the hydrological cycle and climate system in China, we conducted two sets of numerical experiments using regional climate model RegCM4. In the first experiment used to study the climatic responses to human carbon emissions, the model were configured over entire China because the impacts of carbon emissions can be detected across the whole country. Results from the first experiment revealed that near-surface air temperature may significantly increase from 2007 to 2059 at a rate exceeding 0.1 ~C per decade in most areas across the country; southwestern and southeastern China also showed increasing trends in summer precipitation, with rates exceeding 10 mm per decade over the same period. In summer, only northern China showed an increasing trend of evapotranspiration, with increase rates ranging from 1 to 5 mm per decade; in winter, increase rates ranging from 1 to 5 mm per decade were observed in most regions. These effects are believed to be caused by global warming from human carbon emissions. In the second experiment used to study the effects of human water use, the model were configured over a limited region-- Haihe River Basin in the northern China, because compared with the human carbon emissions, the effects of human water use are much more local and regional, and the Haihe River Basin is the most typical region in China that suffers from both intensive human groundwater exploitation and surface water diversion. We incorporated a scheme of human water regulation into RegCM4 and conducted the second experiment. Model outputs showed that the groundwater table severely declined by -10 m in 1971-2000 through human groundwater over- exploitation in the basin; in fact, current conditions are so extreme that even reducing the pumping rate by half cannot eliminate the ground- water depletion cones observed in the area. Other hydrological and climatic elements, such as soil moisture, runoff generation, air humidity, precipitation, wind field, and soil and air temperature, were also significantly affected by anthropogenic water withdrawal and consumption, although these effects could be mitigated by reducing the amount of water drawn for extraction and application.展开更多

Rather than attempt to cover all topics, we have chosen a few climatic intervals and events judged to be particularly informative to the international community. In historical climate simulations, changes in solar radiation and volcanic activity explain most parts of reconstructions over the last millennium prior to the industrial era, while atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations play the most important role in the20 th century warming over China. There is a considerable model–data mismatch in the annual and boreal winter temperature change over China during the mid-Holocene [6000 years before present(ka BP)], while coupled models with an interactive ocean generally perform better than atmospheric models. For the Last Glacial Maximum(21 ka BP), climate models successfully reproduce the surface cooling trend over China but fail to reproduce its magnitude, with a better performance for coupled models. At that time, reconstructed vegetation and western Pacific sea surface temperatures could have significantly affected the East Asian climate, and environmental conditions on the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau were most likely very different to the present day. During the late Marine Isotope Stage 3(30–40 ka BP), orbital forcing and Northern Hemisphere glaciation, as well as vegetation change in China, were likely responsible for East Asian climate change. On the tectonic scale, the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau uplift, the Tethys Sea retreat, and the South China Sea expansion played important roles in the formation of the East Asian monsoon-dominant environment pattern during the late Cenozoic.展开更多

Modeling air quality in urban areas is rather complex since observed concentration values are a consequence of the interaction of multiple sources and processes that involve a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. Besides a consistent and robust multi-scale modeling system, comprehensive and flexible emission inventories are needed. This paper discusses the application of the WRF-SMOKE-CMAQ system to the Madrid city (Spain) to assess the contribution of the main emitting sectors in the region. A detailed emission inventory was compiled for this purpose. This inventory relies on bottom-up methods for the most important sources. It is coupled with the regional traffic model and it makes use of an extensive database of industrial, commercial and residential combustion plants. Less relevant sources are downscaled from national or regional inventories. This paper reports the methodology and main results of the source apportionment study performed to understand the origin of pollution (main sectors and geographical areas) and define clear targets for the abatement strategy. Finally the structure of the air quality monitoring is analyzed and discussed to identify options to improve the monitoring strategy not only in the Madrid city but the whole metropolitan area.展开更多

Hydrogels are crosslinked materials that can absorb a big amount of water. They generally can be considered as smart materials once they exhibit sensibility to external stimuli like to pH variation, as will be approached in this paper. Thus, chitosan/polyvinylpyrrolidone hydrogels of three different ratios between these two polymers (1:1, 7:3 and 3:7) were synthesized and putted in aqueous solution with different pHs. The pH was adjusted adding drops of NaOH and HCl, slowly. After the collection of results and in order to understand the phenomena in a visual way, models of the molecules were also elaborated using the Avogadro software. Therefore, it was possible to realize that the greater the ratio of chitosan in the hydrogel, the greater its sensitivity to pH. Such characteristic is associated with the amino (-NH2) groups in it structure, which are capable of protonating and deprotonating (depending of the pH), generating charges under the chemical structure of the material, which will expand its volume in order to minimize the repulsion between charges. In addition, it was also noted that the hydrogel expansion is inversely proportional to the pH increase. By practical tests, it was possible to conclude that chitosan/PVP hydrogel with ratio 7:3 is the most interesting once it presented a greater quantity of chitosan in its composition, what implied in more rigidity than the others and greater ease of handling, resulting in more reliable results. This hydrogel also showed higher sensitivity to pH.展开更多

A 3-D discontinuum numerical model was built incorporating geologic complexities including faults and interfaces between different lithologies, and the stoping and backfilling sequence adopted from the mine plans. The stoping was carried out in two vertically stacked horizontal layers, with a total of 16 stopes. Large displacements of up to 50 cm were observed along the roof of the stopes, and a maximum surface subsidence of 22.5 cm was observed.Backfilling was found to eliminate subsequent displacements and subsidence. The extraction of the upper orebody was found to influence displacements in the lower orebody. Finally, a subsidence profile was constructed to show the subsidence at all locations along the length of the surface and region of influence on the surface.展开更多

In this model, migrations of both the austenite- ferrite and austenite-cementite interfaces coupled with the carbon diffusion and redistribution are integrated. The capil- laxity effect derived from local interface curvatures is also carefully considered by involving the concentration given by the phase diagram modified by the Gibbs-Thomson effect. This allows the interface evolution from a transient state to a steady state under different annealing conditions and various interlamellar spacings to be simulated. The proposed cellular automaton approach could be readily used to describe the kinetics of austenite formation from the lamellar pearlites and virtually reveal the kinematics of the moving interfaces from the microstructural aspect.展开更多

The application of quantum chemical methods in the study and planning of bioactive compounds has become a common practice nowadays. From the point of view of planning it is important to note, when it comes to the use of molecular modeling, a collective term that refers to methods and theoretical modeling and computational techniques to mimic the behavior of molecules, not intend to reach a bioactive molecule simply through the use of computer programs. The choice of method for energy minimization depends on factors related to the size of the molecule, parameters of availability, stored data and computational resources. Molecular models generated by the computer are the result of mathematical equations that estimate the positions and properties of the electrons and nuclei, the calculations exploit experimentally, the characteristics of a structure, providing a new perspective on the molecule. In this work we show that studies of Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital Energy (HOMO), Low Unoccupied Molecular Orbital Energy (LUMO) and Map of molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) using Hatree-Fock method with different basis sets (HF/3-21G*, HF/3-21G**, HF/6-31G, HF/6-31G*, HF/6-31G** and HF/6-311G), that are of great importance in modern chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and other fields of knowledge of health sciences. In order to obtain a significant correlation, it is essential that the descriptors are used appropriately. Thus, the quantum chemical calculations are an attractive source of new molecular descriptors that can, in principle, express all the geometrical and electronic properties of molecules and their interactions with biological receptor.展开更多

However, with the increase in population and growth of urbanization, industrialization, and commercial activities, planning and management of water resources have become a challenging task to meet various water demands globally. Information and data on streamflow hydrology are, thus, crucial for this purpose. However, availability of measured flow data in many cases is either inadequate or not available at all. When there is no gauging station available at the site of interest, various empirical methods are generally used to estimate the flow there and the best estimation is chosen. This study is focused on the estimation of monthly average flows by such methods popular in Nepal and assessment of how they compare with the results of hydrological simulation. Performance evaluation of those methods was made with a newly introduced index, Global Performance Index (GPI) utilizing six commonly used goodness-of-fit parameters viz. coefficient of determination, mean absolute error, root mean square error, percentage of volume bias, Nash Sutcliff Efficiency and Kling-Gupta Efficiency. This study showed that hydrological modeling is the best among the considered methods of flow estimation for ungauged catchments.展开更多

As a proof of concept, a torpedo example is illustrated to explain how physical models are developed following the proposed framework. Finally, a combat scenario is constructed to demonstrate the availability, and a further verification is shown by a reasonable agreement between simulation results and field observations.
文摘Carbon emissions and water use are two major kinds of human activities. Other hydrological and climatic elements, such as soil moisture, runoff generation, air humidity, precipitation, wind field, and soil and air temperature, were also significantly affected by anthropogenic water withdrawal and consumption, although these effects could be mitigated by reducing the amount of water drawn for extraction and application.

文摘A nonlinear mathematical model of the injection molding process for electrohydraulic servo injection molding machine (IMM) is developed. It was found necessary to consider the characteristics of asymmetric cylinder for electrohydraulic servo IMM.The model is based on the dynamics of the machine including servo valve, asymmetric cylinder and screw, and the non-Newtonian flow behavior of polymer melt in injection molding is also considered. The performance of the model was evaluated based on novel approach of molding - injection and compress molding, and the results of simulation and experimental data demonstrate the effectiveness of the model.
文摘An overview of about 70-year research efforts in area of mathematical modeling of human physiology is provided. The overview has two goals:(1)to recognize the main advantages and causes of disadvantages or disappointments;(2)to distinguish the most promising approach for creating future models.Until recently, efforts in the modeling of quantitative physiology were concentrated on the solving of three main types of tasks:(1)how to establish the input-output dynamic characteristics of a given isolated organ or isolated anatomical-functional system(AFS);(2)how to create a computer-based simulator of physiological complex systems(PCM)containing many organs and AFSs;and(3)how to create multi-scale models capable of simulating and explaining causalities in organs,AFSs,PCMs,and in the entire organism in terms that will allow using such models for simulating pathological scenarios(the“Physiome”project)too. The critical analysis of the modeling experience and recent physiological concepts convinced us that the platform provided by the paradigm of physiological super-systems(PPS)looks like the most promising platform for further modeling.PPS causally combines activities of specific intracellular mechanisms(self-tunable but of limited capacities)with their extracellular enhancers. The enhancement appears due to the increase of nutrients incomes toward cells affected because of low energy and inadequate chemical composition of cytoplasm.Every enhancer has its activator chemicals released by the affected cells. In fact,PPS,indicating causal relationships between cellscale and upper-scales(in organs,AFSs,PCMs)physiological activities,is the single platform for future models. They must definitely describe when and how the bottom-to-up information flows do appear and how is the organism-scale adaptation activated against destructive trends in cells.

文摘This paper provides a review of paleoclimate modeling activities in China. On the tectonic scale, the Qinghai–Tibetan Plateau uplift, the Tethys Sea retreat, and the South China Sea expansion played important roles in the formation of the East Asian monsoon-dominant environment pattern during the late Cenozoic.
文摘As environmental standards become more stringent (e.g. European Directive 2008/50/EC), more reliable and sophisticated modeling tools are needed to simulate measures and plans that may effectively tackle air quality exceedances, common in large cities across Europe, particularly for NO2. Finally the structure of the air quality monitoring is analyzed and discussed to identify options to improve the monitoring strategy not only in the Madrid city but the whole metropolitan area.
文摘Smart material can be defined as a material that can dock or convert energy between physical domains or as a material that can generate a response, in their characteristics, properties or geometries, when submitted to an external stimulus, for example, to heat, water presence, light, etc. In this paper, the second definition will be approached. This hydrogel also showed higher sensitivity to pH.

文摘Chronic infection with hepatitis B virus(HBV)remains a global health concern despite the availability of vaccines. To date, the development of effective treatments has been severely hampered by the lack of reliable, reproducible, and scalable in vitro modeling systems that precisely recapitulate the virus life cycle and represent virus-host interactions. With the progressive understanding of liver organogenesis mechanisms, the development of human induced pluripotent stem cell(iPSC)-derived hepatic sources and stromal cellular compositions provides novel strategies for personalized modeling and treatment of liver disease.Further, advancements in three-dimensional culture of self-organized liver-like organoids considerably promote in vitro modeling of intact human liver tissue,in terms of both hepatic function and other physiological characteristics.Combined with our experiences in the investigation of HBV infections using liver organoids,we have summarized the advances in modeling reported thus far and discussed the limitations and ongoing challenges in the application of liver organoids, particularly those with multi-cellular components derived from human iPSCs.This review provides general guidelines for establishing clinical-grade iPSC-derived multi-cellular organoids in modeling personalized hepatitis virus infection and other liver diseases,as well as drug testing and transplantation therapy.

文摘An underground iron mine in China has been used as a case-study to research the subsidence due to ore extraction and backfilling during open stoping operations. Finally, a subsidence profile was constructed to show the subsidence at all locations along the length of the surface and region of influence on the surface.

文摘A modified cellular automaton model is developed to depict the interface evolution inside the cementite plus ferrite lamellar microstructures during the reaustenitization of a pearlite steel. The proposed cellular automaton approach could be readily used to describe the kinetics of austenite formation from the lamellar pearlites and virtually reveal the kinematics of the moving interfaces from the microstructural aspect.
文摘This paper describes numerical simulation of hydraulic fracturing using fracture-based continuum modeling(FBCM)of coupled geomechanical-hydrological processes to evaluate a technique for high-density fracturing and fracture caging. The simulations are innovative because of modeling discrete fractures explicitly in continuum analysis.A key advantage of FBCM is that fracture initiation and propagation are modeled explicitly without changing the domain grid(i.e.no re-meshing).Further,multiple realizations of a preexisting fracture distribution can be analyzed using the same domain grid. The simulated hydraulic fracturing technique consists of pressurizing multiple wells simultaneously:initially without permeating fluids into the rock,to seed fractures uniformly and at high density in the wall rock of the wells;followed by fluid injection to propagate the seeded fracture density hydraulically.FBCM combines the ease of continuum modeling with the potential accuracy of modeling discrete fractures and fracturing explicitly.Fractures are modeled as piecewise planar based on intersections with domain elements;fracture geometry stored as continuum properties is used to calculate parameters needed to model individual fractures;and rock behavior is modeled through tensorial aggregation of the behavior of discrete fractures and unfractured rock.Simulations are presented for previously unfractured rock and for rock with preexisting fractures of horizontal,shallow-dipping,steeply dipping,or vertical orientation.Simulations of a single-well model are used to determine the pattern and spacing for a multiple-well design. The results illustrate high-density fracturing and fracture caging through simultaneous fluid injection in multiple wells:for previously unfractured rock or rock with preexisting shallow-dipping or horizontal fractures, and in situ vertical compressive stress greater than horizontal. If preexisting fractures are steeply dipping or vertical, and considering the same in situ stress condition, well pressurization without fluid permeation appears to be the only practical way to induce new fractures and contain fracturing within the target domain.

文摘A periodic packing mode of trickle-bed reactor (TBR) for the gas limited reaction was proposed. Hy-drogenation of 2-ethylanthraquinone over Pd/Al2O3 in a laboratory-scale TBR was taken as a test reaction for determining whether the periodic packing mode is advantageous. The effects of operating conditions and packing type on TBR performance were experimentally examined to demonstrate the cause-effect relationships. A mathe-matic model of TBR considering axial dispersion and fractional wetting was developed to quantitatively illuminate the reason of performance enhancement.
文摘Finding a basis of unification for the modeling of mechatronic systems is the search subject of several works. This paper is a part of a general research designed to the application of topology as a new approach for the modeling of mechatronic systems.Particularly, the modeling of a one stage spur gear transmission using a topological approach is tackled. This approach is based on the concepts of topological collections and transformations and implemented using the MGS(modeling of general systems)language. The topological collections are used to specify the interconnection laws of the one stage spur gear transmission and the transformations are used to specify the local behavior laws of its different components. In order to validate this approach, simulation results are presented and compared with those obtained with MODELICA language using Dymola solver.Since good results are achieved, this approach might be used as a basis of unification for the modeling of mechatronic systems.
文摘The central importance of quantum chemistry is to obtain solutions of the Schr?dinger equation for the accurate determination of the properties of atomic and molecular systems that occurred from the calculation of wave functions accurate for many diatomic and polyatomic molecules, using Self Consistent Field method (SCF). Thus, the quantum chemical calculations are an attractive source of new molecular descriptors that can, in principle, express all the geometrical and electronic properties of molecules and their interactions with biological receptor.
文摘Water resource is required for agricultural, industrial, and domestic activities and for environmental preservation. This study showed that hydrological modeling is the best among the considered methods of flow estimation for ungauged catchments.
文摘The purpose of this paper is to pose a new question to speed-up mutual understanding among team members or/and group of experts when communicating over the Internet in forms of virtual collaboration, electronic brainstorming, network strategic conversation, etc. We have previously proposed an approach that the convergent control mechanism based on the fundamental principles of thermodynamic and inverse problem solution method, as well as various artificial intelligence techniques, be incorporated into the communicative process. This paper shows a further development of the approach in terms of applying The Fuzzy Tychonoff Theorem along with quantum techniques provide to reach a high level of holistic discourse which is achieved not only through the application of fundamental principles of compactness of the topological space, but also utilizing quantum entanglement and complementarity principles for discourse structuring in a special way. The approach is implemented as the Responsibility Thinking System (RTS) tested in the course of finding the decisions of the real life issues.
