Novel Rifle Number Recognition Based on Improved YOLO in Military Environment

Deep neural networks perform well in image recognition,object recognition,pattern analysis,and speech recog-nition.In military applications,deep neural networks can detect equipment and recognize objects.In military equipment,it is necessary to detect and recognize rifle management,which is an important piece of equipment,using deep neural networks.There have been no previous studies on the detection of real rifle numbers using real rifle image datasets.In this study,we propose a method for detecting and recognizing rifle numbers when rifle image data are insufficient.The proposed method was designed to improve the recognition rate of a specific dataset using data fusion and transfer learningmethods.In the proposed method,real rifle images and existing digit images are fusedas trainingdata,andthe final layer is transferredto theYolov5 algorithmmodel.The detectionand recognition performance of rifle numbers was improved and analyzed using rifle image and numerical datasets.We used actual rifle image data(K-2 rifle)and numeric image datasets,as an experimental environment.TensorFlow was used as the machine learning library.Experimental results show that the proposed method maintains 84.42% accuracy,73.54% precision,81.81% recall,and 77.46% F1-score in detecting and recognizing rifle numbers.The proposed method is effective in detecting rifle numbers. 展开更多

Prolonged intermittent theta burst stimulation restores the balance between A_(2A)R-and A_(1)R-mediated adenosine signaling in the 6-hydroxidopamine model of Parkinson's disease

An imbalance in adenosine-mediated signaling,particularly the increased A_(2A)R-mediated signaling,plays a role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease.Existing therapeutic approaches fail to alter disease progression,demonstrating the need for novel approaches in PD.Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation is a non-invasive approach that has been shown to improve motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease.However,the underlying mechanisms of the beneficial effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation remain unknown.The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which the beneficial effects of prolonged intermittent theta burst stimulation in the 6-hydroxydopamine model of experimental parkinsonism are based on modulation of adenosine-mediated signaling.Animals with unilateral 6-hydroxydopamine lesions underwent intermittent theta burst stimulation for 3 weeks and were tested for motor skills using the Rotarod test.Immunoblot,quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction,immunohistochemistry,and biochemical analysis of components of adenosine-mediated signaling were performed on the synaptosomal fraction of the lesioned caudate putamen.Prolonged intermittent theta burst stimulation improved motor symptoms in 6-hydroxydopamine-lesioned animals.A 6-hydroxydopamine lesion resulted in progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the caudate putamen.Treatment with intermittent theta burst stimulation began 7 days after the lesion,coinciding with the onset of motor symptoms.After treatment with prolonged intermittent theta burst stimulation,complete motor recovery was observed.This improvement was accompanied by downregulation of the e N/CD73-A_(2A)R pathway and a return to physiological levels of A_(1)R-adenosine deaminase 1 after 3 weeks of intermittent theta burst stimulation.Our results demonstrated that 6-hydroxydopamine-induced degeneration reduced the expression of A_(1)R and elevated the expression of A_(2A)R.Intermittent theta burst stimulation reversed these effects by restoring the abundances of A_(1)R and A_(2A)R to control levels.The shift in ARs expression likely restored the balance between dopamine-adenosine signaling,ultimately leading to the recovery of motor control. 展开更多

Predicting the Construction Quality of Projects by Using Hybrid Soft Computing Techniques

The construction phase of a project is a critical factor that significantly impacts its overall success.The construction environment is characterized by uncertainty and dynamism,involving nonlinear relationships among various factors that affect construction quality.This study utilized 987 construction inspection records from 1993 to 2022,obtained from the Taiwan residents Public Construction Management Information System(PCMIS),to determine the relationships between construction factors and quality.First,fuzzy logic was applied to calculate the weights of 499 defects,and 25 critical construction factors were selected based on these weight values.Next,a deep neural network was used to identify the relationship between the critical construction factors(input variables)and construction quality(output variable).Finally,the prediction model’s performance was evaluated to confirm the impact of these critical construction factors on project outcomes.This study employed an innovative hybrid soft computing technique,com-bining fuzzy logic and an artificial neural network,to effectively predict the relationship between critical construction factors and construction quality,achieving a model accuracy of 96.08%.Project managers can utilize the findings of this study to enhance project management practices and establish effective construction management strategies,thereby improving project construction quality. 展开更多

Effect of Hydroxyapatite Filler in an Aluminosilicate Glass Ionomer Cements

Hydroxyapatite (HA) is widely explored as a biocompatible filler to enhance the mechanical and functional properties of glass ionomer cements (GICs). HA of particle sizes 15 µm and 30 µm were added as a filler into a matrix, composed of calcium aluminosilicate GICs and Poly-acrylic acid (PAA) in varying ratios. The tested ratios were Glass:PAA = 2:1 and Glass:HA:PAA = 2:0.5:1 to improve the mechanical strength of a conventional GIC. Mechanical properties, including compressive, flexural, and diametral tensile strength were studied at different setting times. The compressive strength (CS) was improved with hydroxyapatite addition and prolonged setting time while diametral tensile strength (DTS) did not follow any specific trend. The flexural strength (FS) of the composite cement was increased with increasing setting time regardless of the particle size of hydroxyapatite. The FTIR spectra of hydroxyapatite of particle sizes 15 μm and 30 μm are similar but for HA-GIC composites, the FTIR spectra, the peak around 1460 cm−1 are due to C-H and the peak at 1553 cm−1 is due to calcium carboxylate with calcium in a bridging mode which would be an excellent material that chemically bonds to the tooth structure, making it effective for both restorative procedures and cavity fillings. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) microstructural study revealed that the glass particles were wrenched out, which was a cohesive fracture. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern showed that the hydroxyapatite has a crystalline single-phase, hexagonal structure. The sharp peaks between the 2-theta range of 30 - 40 degrees are the same as in enamel powder. The spectra indicate the pure set cement as amorphous since there is no prominent peak, but with the addition of hydroxyapatite filler, the peak in the 2-theta range of 20 - 35 degrees is ascribed to crystalline apatite structure. The results indicate that incorporating hydroxyapatite into GIC significantly enhances its mechanical properties and structural integrity, suggesting its potential as an improved material for dental and restorative applications. 展开更多

This study aims to enhance automated crop detection using high-resolution Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)imagery by integrating the Visible Atmospherically Resistant Index(VARI)with deep learning models.The primary challenge addressed is the detection of bananas interplanted with betel nuts,a scenario where traditional image processing techniques struggle due to color similarities and canopy overlap.The research explores the effectiveness of three deep learning models—Single Shot MultiBox Detector(SSD),You Only Look Once version 3(YOLOv3),and Faster Region-Based Convolutional Neural Network(Faster RCNN)—using Red,Green,Blue(RGB)and VARI images for banana detection.Results show that VARI significantly improves detection accuracy,with YOLOv3 achieving the best performance,achieving a precision of 73.77%,recall of 100%,and reduced training time by 95 seconds.Additionally,the average Intersection over Union(IoU)increased by 4%–25%across models with VARI-enhanced images.This study confirms that incorporating VARI improves the performance of deep learning models,offering a promising solution for precise crop detection in complex agricultural environments. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal(GI)tract injuries and defects form a heterogeneous group of conditions often presenting with fistula formation.Management depends on factors such as defect number,anatomical location,and patient status,requiring a therapy that addresses multiple etiopathogenic factors.CASE SUMMARY We present two cases of patients who underwent total gastrectomy for gastric malignancy.A combined therapeutic approach was employed,based on isolating the injury site with local vacuum-assisted closure(VAC)therapy and simultaneous enteral nutrition.This method facilitated successful healing and enabled the identification of previously undetected defects not recognized by conventional diagnostics.CONCLUSION The combination of injury site isolation,local VAC therapy,and enteral feeding proved to be safe,effective,and easily adaptable to standard surgical practice.This approach may expand surgical options in the treatment of GI tract injuries and defects. 展开更多

With the rapid development of Cloud-Edge-End(CEE)computing,the demand for secure and lightweight communication protocols is increasingly critical,particularly for latency-sensitive applications such as smart manufacturing,healthcare,and real-time monitoring.While traditional cryptographic schemes offer robust protection,they often impose excessive computational and energy overhead,rendering them unsuitable for use in resource-constrained edge and end devices.To address these challenges,in this paper,we propose a novel lightweight encryption framework,namely Dynamic Session Key Allocation with Time-Indexed Ascon(DSKA-TIA).Built upon the NIST-endorsed Ascon algorithm,the DSKA-TIA introduces a time-indexed session key generation mechanism that derives unique,ephemeral keys for each communication round.The scheme supports bidirectional key separation to isolate uplink and downlink data,thereby minimizing the risk of key reuse and compromise.Additionally,mutual authentication is integrated through nonce-based validation and one-time token exchanges,ensuring entity legitimacy and protection against impersonation and replay attacks.We validate the performance of DSKA-TIA through implementation on a resource-constrained microcontroller platform.Results show that our scheme achieves significantly lower latency and computational cost compared to baseline schemes such as AES and standard Ascon.Security analysis demonstrates high entropy in key generation,resistance to brute-force and replay attacks,and robustness against eavesdropping and key compromise.The protocol also exhibits resilience to quantum computing threats by relying on symmetric encryption principles and randomized key selection.Given its efficiency,scalability,and temporal security enhancements,DSKA-TIA is well-suited for real-time,secure communication in heterogeneous CEE environments.Future work will explore post-quantum extensions and deployment in domains such as smart agriculture and edge-based healthcare. 展开更多

Comparative Analysis of Deep Learning Models for Banana Plant Detection in UAV RGB and Grayscale Imagery

Efficient banana crop detection is crucial for precision agriculture;however,traditional remote sensing methods often lack the spatial resolution required for accurate identification.This study utilizes low-altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV)images and deep learning-based object detection models to enhance banana plant detection.A comparative analysis of Faster Region-Based Convolutional Neural Network(Faster R-CNN),You Only Look Once Version 3(YOLOv3),Retina Network(RetinaNet),and Single Shot MultiBox Detector(SSD)was conducted to evaluate their effectiveness.Results show that RetinaNet achieved the highest detection accuracy,with a precision of 96.67%,a recall of 71.67%,and an F1 score of 81.33%.The study further highlights the impact of scale variation,occlusion,and vegetation density on detection performance.Unlike previous studies,this research systematically evaluates multi-scale object detection models for banana plant identification,offering insights into the advantages of UAV-based deep learning applications in agriculture.In addition,this study compares five evaluation metrics across the four detection models using both RGB and grayscale images.Specifically,RetinaNet exhibited the best overall performance with grayscale images,achieving the highest values across all five metrics.Compared to its performance with RGB images,these results represent a marked improvement,confirming the potential of grayscale preprocessing to enhance detection capability. 展开更多

Physiological Variance of CD34 Marker’s Content in Twenty Tissues Determining Different Risks of Cardiovascular Diseases and Cancer in Them

The decreasing of hazard ratio for cancer incidence (HRCVD) in the range of twenty native tissues (lung, liver, brain, hematologic, neuroendocrine renal, pancreas, lymphoid, bladder, colon, lip-oral-head-neck, leukocytic, rectum and anus, thyroid, soft tissue, prostate, skin, ovarian, breast, uterine) as much, as decreasing of the level of cardiovascular pathology (CVD) in the host before malignization, have been described by C.F. Bell et al. in 2023. Earlier, in 2022, the decreasing of 5-year mortality from cancer in similar range of tissues discussed by us as the inverse dependence from the content of stem CD34 markers in tissues before malignization, with example of population in England. In present article we investigate the interrelation between both data more thoroughly, using accessible and more representative populations level of the data. The analysis shows that high level of HRCVD is able to predicts only high cancer death for tissue sites in the beginning of the range, being applied to the referent data of cancer cases and deaths in estimated population of USA 2024. Along with this, an increasing the content of CD34 stem marker in the native tissues of the same range was favorite for increasing of cancer’s cases at the end of the range, diminishing, in parallel, the signs of vasculo-endothelial pathology, i.e. HR CVD. Thus, the cases (incidence) of cancer depend directly rather from content of CD34, which preexisted in native sites, than that from HRCVD. Further analysis shows that CD34 content averaged over twenty cites dominates over that CD2 marker of total T-cells more than 7 times, in oppose to their ratio in the blood. The enhancement of stem CD34 marker in the range of tissues is accompanied by unidirectional rising of its maturing derivatives, vasculo-endothelial CD31 and total T-cells CD2 markers, which contents relate positively to increasing of cancer death in US population 2024. The increase of CD34 decreases cancer mortality (death: cases) in sites, but indirectly, rather due to enhancement of the denominator. The high HRCVD (more than 1.0) in range of 20 tissues, concerns of those of them, which have had highest mitotic activity (by Ki67), but lowest “stemness” (by CD34), “vascularity” (by CD31), cancer’s incidence (cases) and the worse results of therapy. Oppositely, the normal tissue with lowest HRCVD (below 1.0) and Ki67, but highest CD34, CD31, and cancer incidence (cases) are more sensitive to treatment. Thus, the residential hematopoietic “stemness” in native tissues acts as natural protectors for cardio-vascular system and promoter for cancer incidence in them. The steady and irreversible exhaustion of current regenerative resource (CRR) of BM, which assumed by us as a product of CD34 number and average telomeres length, manifests itself in acceleration of non-malignant CVD and deceleration of malignancy in population +70 (in term the death per 105), according to data extracted from WHO Mortality Database. The similar deficit of CD34 arises artificially during cytotoxic treatment of cancer, when rapid waste of local CRR forces malignant cells to search more “stemness” cites. The competition between malignant and native tissues of the host for scanty CRR seems to be the most important factor for evaluation and prediction of prevalence, curability, and long-term results in oncology. 展开更多

This study represents an important step forward in the domain of additive manufacturing of energetic materials.It presents the successful formulation and fabrication by 3D printing of gun propellants using Fused Deposition Modeling(FDM)technology,highlighting the immense potential of this innovative approach.The use of FDM additive manufacturing technology to print gun propellants is a significant advancement due to its novel application in this field,which has not been previously reported.Through this study,the potential of FDM 3D-printing in the production of high-performance energetic composites is demonstrated,and also a new standard for manufacturability in this field can be established.The thermoplastic composites developed in this study are characterized by a notably high energetic solids content,comprising 70%hexogen(RDX)and 10%nitrocellulose(NC),which surpasses the conventional limit of 60%energetic solids typically achieved in stereolithography and light-curing 3D printing methods.The primary objective of the study was to optimize the formulation,enhance performance,and establish an equilibrium between printability and propellant efficacy.Among the three energetic for-mulations developed for 3D printing feedstock,only two were suitable for printing via the FDM tech-nique.Notably,the formulation consisting of 70%RDX,10%NC,and 20%polycaprolactone(PCL)emerged as the most advantageous option for gun propellants,owing to its exceptional processability,ease of printability,and high energetic performance. 展开更多

Background:Acute respiratory distress syndrome(ARDS)is the major therapeutic dilemma associated with significant inflammation and severe pulmonary dysfunction.Liriodendrin is a bioactive compound extract from traditional Chinesemedicine,historically utilized formodulating inflammatory responses and alleviating symptoms in multiple diseasemodels.Methods:At present,BALB/c mice to explore the effects of liriodendrin on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced ARDS.Before LPS was administered,the mice were treated with either liriodendrin or dexamethasone.Leukocyte infiltration,lung edema,and alveolar-capillary barrier integrity were evaluated in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)and pulmonary parenchyma.The expression of adhesion molecules and proinflammatory cytokines in BALF was evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.Western blotting assay facilitated the analysis of the expression or phosphorylation of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS),cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2),NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3(NLRP3),apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD(ASC),cleaved caspase-1(CL-csapase-1),nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells(NF-κB),inhibitor of kappa B(IκB),mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK),and protein kinase B(Akt)in the lungs.In addition,the anti-inflammatory effects of liriodendrin were evaluated in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages.Before LPS was administered,the RAW264.7 macrophages were treated with either liriodendrin or dexamethasone.Nitric Oxide(NO)production was measured using the Griess reaction assay,while ELISA assessed IL-1β,IL-6,and TNF-αlevels.Western blot analysis evaluated NF-κB phosphorylation and the expression of NLRP3,ASC,and CLcaspase-1.Results:These outcomes revealed that liriodendrin intervention markedly ameliorated the pathological features of LPS-induced ARDS,including leukocyte infiltration,lung edema,and alveolar-capillary barrier disruption.Liriodendrin also reduced the LPS-induced secretion of intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1)and vascular cell adhesionmolecule-1(VCAM-1),expression of iNOS and COX2,and production of proinflammatory cytokines.Finally,we further discovered that the concentration trend of liriodendron amelioration ofARDSwas similar to those ofNLRP3 formation,NF-κB pathway activation,and p38 MAPK,c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK),and Akt phosphorylation but not to that of extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK)phosphorylation.Liriodendrin inhibited LPS-induced inflammatory responses in RAW264.7 macrophages.It markedly reduced NO production,propro-inflammatorytokines,NF-κB phosphorylation,and NLRP3 formation.Conclusions:In summary,liriodendrin effectively ameliorated the pathological features of LPS-induced ARDS inmice,demonstrating significant anti-inflammatory properties attributed to NLRP3 formation through NF-κB pathway activation by p38MAPK,JNK,and Akt phosphorylation.In LPS-treated RAW264.7 macrophages,liriodendrin reduced NO production,pro-inflammatory cytokines,and NLRP3 formation,suggesting its potential as an agent for ARDS and relative inflammation. 展开更多

The need to develop armour systems to protect against attacks from various sources is increasingly a matter of personal,social and national security.To develop innovative armour systems it is necessary to monitor developments being made on the type,technology and performance of the threats(weapons,projectiles,explosives,etc.) Specifically,the use of high protection level helmets on the battlefield is essential.The development of evaluation methods that can predict injuries and trauma is therefore of major importance.However,the risk of injuries or trauma that can arise from induced accelerations is an additional consideration.To develop new materials and layouts for helmets it is necessary to study the effects caused by ballistic impacts in the human head on various scenarios.The use of numerical simulation is a fundamental tool in this process.The work here presented focuses on the use of numerical simulation(finite elements analysis) to predict the consequences of bullet impacts on military helmets on human injuries.The main objectives are to assess the level and probability of head trauma using the Head Injury Criterion,caused by the impact of a 9 mm NATO projectile on a PASGT helmet and to quantify the relevance of projectile plasticity on the whole modelling process.The accelerations derived from the impact phenomenon and the deformations caused on the helmet are evaluated using fully three-dimensional models of the helmet,head,neck and projectile.Impact studies are done at impact angles ranging from 0 to 75°.Results are presented and discussed in terms of HIC and probability of acceleration induced trauma levels.Thorough comparison analyses are done using a rigid and a deformable projectile and it is observed that plastic deformation of the projectile is a significant energy dissipation mechanism in the whole impact process. 展开更多

Background: The impact of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan on the incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD) in military service members has been poorly quantified. The purpose of this study was to examine trends in the incidence rate of physician-diagnosed PTSD in active-duty military personnel between 1999 and 2008.Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study utilizing data extracted from the Defense Medical Surveillance System to identify incident cases of PTSD within the study population. The incidence rate of physician-diagnosed PTSD was the primary outcome of interest. Multivariable Poisson regression was used to analyze the data.Results: The overall incidence rate of PTSD among all active-duty US military personnel was 3.84(95% CI: 3.81, 3.87) cases per 1000 person-years. The adjusted average annual percentage increase in the incidence rate of PTSD prior to the initiation of Operation Iraqi Freedom(OIF) was a modest 5.02%(95% CI: 1.85, 8.29%). Following the initiation of OIF, the average annual percentage increase in the rate of PTSD was 43.03%(95% CI: 40.55, 45.56%). Compared to the baseline period between 1999 and 2002, the incidence rate of PTSD in 2008 was nearly 7 times higher(RR=6.85, 95% CI: 6.49, 7.24). Significant increases in the incidence rate of PTSD were observed following the initiation of OIF regardless of sex, age, race, marital status, military rank, or branch of military service. Notably, the rate of PTSD among females was 6–7 times higher prior to OIF, but there was no difference by gender by 2008.Conclusions: Overall, these data quantify the significant increase in the incidence rate of PTSD following the initiation of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan within the active-duty military population during the study period. 展开更多

This raises a question regarding the psychological mechanisms underlying thepotentially self-damaging use of smartphones. Here, we address this question by analyzing how heterogeneity in commander’sgood leadership explains subordinate soldiers’ differences in self-control and smartphone use. Specifically, we found thatsubordinate soldiers who thought their commander's leadership was good were self-regulated, less dependent on smartphones,less stressed, and finally had good mental health. This result indicates that commander’s good leadership can be used toestimate whether subordinate soldiers exert control over their impulses and use their smartphones properly. Thus, the currentfindings help to identify external factors that lead to a better understanding of problematic smartphone use and can potentiallyhelp to design appropriate preventive mechanisms or interventions that target commander’s good leadership. 展开更多

This study shows the diffusion processes of innovations on military strategies. Since the notion of diffusion describes the systemic spread and systemic equilibrium in more powerful terms and demonstrates dynamism, I examined the military doctrinal diffusion patterns in terms of organizational, societal, and rational approach perspectives. These approaches are the pillars of the theoretical edifice in which I argue that it is easier to see the systemic diffusion of military strategies than the military innovations on weapons because of two factors: The characteristics of doctrinal innovations and the behaviors of innovators (gatekeepers) are different. I use the heuristic approach and examine many historical cases by focusing on military doctrines and the relationships between alliances. I use the Blitzkrieg doctrine and the member relationships between the members of NATO as case studies. 展开更多
