The monitoring methods of existing meteorological observation data transmission can no longer meet the needs. This paper proposes a new monitoring model, namely the “integrated monitoring model” for provincial meteorological observation data transmission. The model can complete the whole network monitoring of meteorological observation data transmission process. Based on this model, the integrated monitoring system for meteorological observation data transmission in Guangdong Province is developed. The system uses Java as the programming language, and integrates J2EE, Hibernate, Quartz, Snmp4j and Slf4j frameworks, and uses Oracle database as the data storage carrier, following the MVC specification and agile development concept. The system development uses four key technologies, including simple network management protocol, network connectivity detection technology, remote host management technology and thread pool technology. The integrated monitoring system has been put into business application. As a highlight of Guangdong’s meteorological modernization, it has played an active role in many major meteorological services.展开更多

By the end of 2013, the network had 952 GNSS sites, including 260 belonging to the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC) and 692 belonging to the China Meteorological Administration GNSS network (CMAGN). Additionally, GNSS observation collecting and data processing procedures are presented and PWV data quality control methods are investigated. PWV levels as determined by GNSS and radiosonde are compared. The results show that GNSS estimates are generally in good agreement with measurements of radio- sondes and water vapor radiometers (WVR). The PWV retrieved by the national GNSS network is used in weather forecasting, assimilation of data into numerical weather prediction models, the validation of PWV estimates by radiosonde, and plum rain monitoring. The network is also used to monitor the total ionospheric electron content.展开更多

These solar-powered USVs completed a long-term continuous navigation observation test over 26 days.During this time, they coordinated double-USV observations and actively navigated into the path of Typhoon Sinlaku(2020) before collecting data very close to its center during the 2020 USV South China Sea Typhoon Observation Experiment. Detailed high temporal resolution(1 min) real-time observations collected by the USV on the typhoon were used for operational typhoon forecasting and warning for the first time. As a mobile meteorological and oceanographic observation station capable of reliable, automated deployment, data collection, and transmission, such solar-powered USVs can replace traditional observation platforms to provide valuable real-time data for research, forecasting, and early warnings for potential marine meteorological disasters.展开更多

This scheme is applied to the Global/Regional Assimilation and Prediction System(GRAPES) with three-dimensional variation(3 DVAR) to study the effect of the thinning radius on the assimilation results. The assimilation experiments indicate that when the ratio of the model resolution to the observational resolution is 1:3, the simulated results for precipitation are relatively good and have a relatively high equitable threat score(ETS). Moreover, the analysis errors in the temperature and the specific humidity are the smallest, the dependence of the norm gradient vector of the objective function on the number of iterations is slow, gentle, and close to 0, and the minimization results in improved conditions.展开更多

The specifications and preliminary data synthesis of this system are presented, which comprises one back-end and three or more front-ends. Each front-end, which utilizes a phased-array digital beamforming technology, sequentially transmits four 22.5°-width beams to cover the 0°–90° elevational scan within about 0.05 s. The azimuthal detection is completed by one mechanical scan of0°–360° azimuths within about 12 s volume-scan update time. In the case of three front-ends, they are deployed according to an acute triangle to form a fine detection area(FDA). Because of the triangular deployment of multiple phased-array front-ends and a unique synchronized azimuthal scanning(SAS) rule, this new radar system is named Array Weather Radar(AWR). The back-end controls the front-ends to scan strictly in accordance with the SAS rule that assures the data time differences(DTD) among the three front-ends are less than 2 s for the same detection point in the FDA. The SAS can maintain DTD < 2 s for an expanded seven-front-end AWR. With the smallest DTD, gridded wind fields are derived from AWR data, by sampling of the interpolated grid, onto a rectangular grid of 100 m ×100 m ×100 m at a 12 s temporal resolution in the FDA. The first X-band single-polarized three-front-end AWR was deployed in field experiments in 2018 at Huanghua International Airport, China. Having completed the data synthesis and processing, the preliminary observation results of the first AWR are described herein.展开更多

Anthropogenic aerosol optical depth (AOD) and its accompanying shortwave radiative forcing (RF) are usually simulated by nu- merical models. Recently, with the development of space-borne instruments and sophisticated retrieval algorithms, it has become possible to estimate aerosol radiative forcing based on satellite observations. In this study, we have estimated shortwave direct radiative forcing due to anthropogenic aerosols over oceans in all-sky conditions by combining clouds and the Single Scanner Footprint data of the Clouds and Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES/SSF) experiment, which provide measurements of upward shortwave fluxes at the top of atmosphere, with Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aerosol and cloud products. We found that globally averaged aerosol radiative forcing over oceans in the clear-sky conditions and all-sky conditions were -1.03±0.48 W m-2 and -0.34 ±0.16 W m-2, respectively. Direct radiative forcing by anthropogenic aerosols shows large regional and seasonal variations. In some regions and in particular seasons, the magnitude of direct forcing by anthropogenic aerosols can be comparable to the forcing of greenhouse gases. However, it shows that aerosols caused the cooling effect, rather than warming effect from global scale, which is different from greenhouse gases.展开更多

The results indicate that the structure of the wind field varies with altitude, and dropsonde observations capture key features consistent with the dissipating stage of the tropical cyclone.Southwesterly winds are predominant in the middle and lower troposphere(500–975 hPa), which constitute the primary outflow layer and exhibits cyclonic motion. The tangential wind reaches its maximum speed(>17 m s^(–1)) at an altitude of3–4 km in the middle troposphere, coinciding with the region of the strongest cyclonic motion. Within the same group, as the dropsonde moves closer to the tropical storm center, the intensity of the cyclonic motion in the middle troposphere intensifies. In addition, the southeasterly winds dominate in the upper troposphere, which, along with the near-surface area, constitute the inflow layers. When the dropsonde is closer to the tropical storm center, the top of the near-surface inflow layer is observed at a lower altitude. Horizontal temperature gradients at different positions are relatively weak, but the vertical temperature lapse rate exhibits localized changes at different heights. The typhoon′s peripheral cloud system exists in an atmospheric environment characterized by instability in the lower levels and relative stability in the middle to upper levels.展开更多

On the other hand, geostationary(GEO)weather satellites provide continuous observations with seamless coverage with advanced imager, despite their limited capability to penetrate clouds. Combining satellite and ground-radar observations could exploit the advantages of both techniques, providing tracking capability close to that of ground radar while maintaining full spatial coverage. This study presents a novel method called Multi-dimensional satellite Observation information for Radar Estimation(MORE) to reconstruct radar composite reflectivity(CREF). Deep learning techniques are important components of MORE for estimating CREF from China's Fengyun-4B(FY-4B) GEO satellite observations. Two models are developed: an infraredonly(IR-Single) model available for all times, and a visible-infrared(VIS+IR) model for daytime applications. These models incorporate multi-dimensional satellite observation information, including temporal, spatial, spectral, and viewing angle information, to enhance the accuracy of radar echo reconstruction. Results demonstrate that the VIS+IR model outperforms the IR-Single model, and both models achieves a root-mean-square error(RMSE) of less than 6 dBZ and a coefficient of determination(R~2) of greater than 0.7. The models effectively reconstruct radar echoes, including strong echoes exceeding 50 dBZ, and show good agreement with precipitation data in radar-blind areas. This study offers a valuable solution for severe weather monitoring and tracking in regions lacking ground-based radar observations, and provides a potential tool for enhanced data assimilation in numerical weather prediction(NWP) models.展开更多

Changes in biomass, electrolyte leakage and malondialdehyde (MDA), free proline, total soluble sugars (TSS) and abscisic acid (ABA), the enzyme activities of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) were measured to investigate the effects of ADO treatment. The results showed that the treatment with an ADO concentration of 0.20% exhibited the highest performance of drought stress resistance in the tomato seedlings by decreasing the electrolyte leakage and the concentration of MDA, increasing the contents of free proline, TSS and ABA, and increasing the activities of CAT, SOD, POD and PAL after treatment with ADO. It is suggested that changes in electrolyte leakage, MDA, osmotic solutes, ABA, anti-oxidative enzyme and PAL activities were responsible for the increased drought stress resistance in tomato seedlings. To our best knowledge, this is the first report of the effect of ADO treatment on enhancing the drought stress resistance of tomato seedlings.展开更多

Based on fine-resolution sounding observations from the China Radiosonde Network (CRN), the method used to estimate CBH was modified, and uncertainty analyses indicated that the CBH is good enough. The accuracy of CBH estimation is verified by the comparison between the sounding-derived CBHs and those estimated from the micro-pulse lidar and millimeter-wave cloud radar. As such, the CBH climatology was compiled for the period 2006-16. Overall, the CBH exhibits large geographic variability across China, at both 0800 Local Standard Time (LST) and 2000 LST, irrespective of season. In addition, the summertime cloud base tends to be elevated to higher altitudes in dry regions [i.e., Inner Mongolia and the North China Plain (NCP)]. By comparison, the Tibetan Plateau (TP), Pearl River Delta (PRD) and Sichuan Basin (SCB) have relatively low CBHs (〈 2.4 km above ground level). In terms of seasonality, the CBH reaches its maximum in summer and minimum in winter. A low cloud base tends to occur frequently (〉 70%) over the TP, PRD and SCB. In contrast, at most sites over the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) and the NCP, about half the cloud belongs to the high-cloud category. The CBH does not exhibit marked diurnal variation in summer, throughout all CRN sites, probably due to the persistent cloud coverage caused by the East Asia Summer Monsson. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first CBH climatology produced from sounding measurements in China, and provides a useful reference for obtaining observational cloud base information.展开更多

The Yilong-10 UAV carried a self-developed dropsonde system and a millimeter-wave cloud radar system. In addition, a solar-powered unmanned surface vessel and two drifting buoys were used. The experiment was further supported by an intelligent, reciprocating horizontal drifting radiosonde system that was deployed from the Sansha Meteorological Observing Station, with the intent of producing a stereoscopic observation over the South China Sea. Comprehensive three-dimensional observations were collected using the system from 31 July to2 August, 2020. This information was used to investigate the formation and development processes of Typhoon Sinlaku(2020). The data contain measurements of 21 oceanic and meteorological parameters acquired by the five devices, along with video footage from the UAV. The data proved very helpful in determining the actual location and intensity of Typhoon Sinlaku(2020). The experiment demonstrates the feasibility of using a high-altitude, large UAV to fill in the gaps between operational meteorological observations of marine areas and typhoons near China, and marks a milestone for the use of such data for analyzing the structure and impact of a typhoon in the South China Sea. It also demonstrates the potential for establishing operational UAV meteorological observing systems in the future, and the assimilation of such data into numerical weather prediction models.展开更多

文摘In this study, the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) network of China is discussed, which can be used to monitor atmospheric precipitable water vapor (PWV). The network is also used to monitor the total ionospheric electron content.

The assimilation experiments indicate that when the ratio of the model resolution to the observational resolution is 1:3, the simulated results for precipitation are relatively good and have a relatively high equitable threat score(ETS). Moreover, the analysis errors in the temperature and the specific humidity are the smallest, the dependence of the norm gradient vector of the objective function on the number of iterations is slow, gentle, and close to 0, and the minimization results in improved conditions.

文摘A novel weather radar system with distributed phased-array front-ends was developed. Having completed the data synthesis and processing, the preliminary observation results of the first AWR are described herein.

文摘Anthropogenic aerosols play an important role in the atmospheric energy balance. However, it shows that aerosols caused the cooling effect, rather than warming effect from global scale, which is different from greenhouse gases.

文摘This study investigates the wind field structure and thermodynamic characteristics in the peripheral region of Tropical Storm Sinlaku(2020) through an integrated analysis of airborne dropsonde data, ERA5 reanalysis data, and China Meteorological Administration(CMA) best track dataset. The typhoon′s peripheral cloud system exists in an atmospheric environment characterized by instability in the lower levels and relative stability in the middle to upper levels.

文摘In order to further enhance the numerical application of weather radar radial velocity, this paper proposes a quality control scheme for weather radar radial velocity from the perspective of data assimilation. The proposed scheme is based on the WRFDA(Weather Research and Forecasting Data Assimilation)system and utilizes the biweight algorithm to perform quality control on weather radar radial velocity data.A series of quality control tests conducted over the course of one month demonstrate that the scheme can be seamlessly integrated into the data assimilation process. The scheme is characterized by its simplicity, fast implementation, and ease of maintenance.By determining an appropri-ate threshold for quality control, the percentage of outliers identified by the scheme remains highly stable over time. Moreover, the mean errors and standard deviations of the O-B(observation-minus-background)values are significantly reduced, improving the overall data quality. The main information and spatial distribution features of the data are pre-served effectively. After quality control, the distribution of the O-B Probability Density Function is adjusted in a manner that brings it closer to a Gaussian distribution. This adjustment is beneficial for the subsequent data assimilation process, contributing to more accurate numerical weather predictions. Thus, the proposed quality control scheme provides a valuable tool for improving weather radar data quality and enhancing numerical forecasting performance.

文摘China launched its first spaceborne Precipitation Measurement Radar(PMR)on the FY-3G satellite in April 2023.To achieve the scientific goal of measuring the three-dimensional precipitation structure, evaluating the quantitative measurement ability of the PMR is critical.China operates more than 250 weather radars over the mainland.Consistency of the spaceborne radar with ground-based radars will enhance precipitation measurement ability, especially over oceans and mountains where observations are sparse.Additionally, the spaceborne radar can be used to evaluate the spatial and temporal homogeneity of the ground-based radar network. This paper focuses on comparing the PMR onboard the FY-3G satellite with S-band China New Generation Weather Radars(CINRADs).A comparison algorithm between the PMR and CINRADs has been developed, incorporating detailed quality control, attenuation correction, data optimization, spatiotemporal matching,non-uniform beam filling constraint, uniformity constraint, and frequency correction. The matched data in typical months of four seasons were selected to carry out the comparison. The data consistency between the PMR and CINRADs was analyzed. The correlation coefficient is 0.87,the deviation is 0.89 dB,and the standard deviation is 2.50 dB,based on 98226 matching samples. The results show the radar reflectivity of the PMR is quite comparable to that of the CINRADs,demonstrating that the PMR data quality is satisfactory and can be used to verify and correct data consistency among multiple ground-based radars. This work also paves the way for data fusion and joint application of satellite and ground radars in the future.

文摘Ground-based radar is the primary means by which severe storms are monitored and tracked;however, due to limited coverage, important data is often missed over ocean and mountainous areas. This study offers a valuable solution for severe weather monitoring and tracking in regions lacking ground-based radar observations, and provides a potential tool for enhanced data assimilation in numerical weather prediction(NWP) models.

文摘In order to determine the role of alginate-derived oligosaccharides (ADO) in drought stress resistance of tomato (Ly-copersicon esculentum Miller) seedlings, the leaves were exposed to different concentrations of ADO (0.05%, 0.10%, 0.20%, 0.30% and 0.50%) after drought stress was simulated by exposing the roots to 0.6 molL-1 PEG-6000 solution for 6 h. To our best knowledge, this is the first report of the effect of ADO treatment on enhancing the drought stress resistance of tomato seedlings.

文摘Two intense quasi-linear mesoscale convective systems(QLMCSs) in northern China were simulated using the WRF(Weather Research and Forecasting) model and the 3D-Var(three-dimensional variational) analysis system of the ARPS(Advanced Regional Prediction System) model.A new method in which the lightning density is calculated using both the precipitation and non-precipitation ice mass was developed to reveal the relationship between the lightning activities and QLMCS structures. Results indicate that, compared with calculating the results using two previous methods, the lightning density calculated using the new method presented in this study is in better accordance with observations.Based on the calculated lightning densities using the new method,it was found that most lightning activity was initiated on the right side and at the front of the QLMCSs,where the surface wind field converged intensely. The CAPE was much stronger ahead of the southeastward progressing QLMCS than to the back it,and their lightning events mainly occurred in regions with a large gradient of CAPE.Comparisons between lightning and non-lightning regions indicated that lightning regions featured more intense ascending motion than non-lightning regions;the vertical ranges of maximum reflectivity between lightning and non-lightning regions were very different;and the ice mixing ratio featured no significant differences between the lightning and non-lightning regions.

文摘Clouds are critical to the global radiation budget and hydrological cycle, but knowledge is still poor concerning the observed climatology of cloud-base height (CBH) in China. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first CBH climatology produced from sounding measurements in China, and provides a useful reference for obtaining observational cloud base information.

文摘Sediment is recognized as the largest reservoir and source of methane(CH_(4))in the ocean, especially in the shallow coastal areas. To date, few data of CH_(4)concentration in sediment have been reported in the China shelf seas.In this study,we measured CH_(4)concentration in sediment and overlying seawater columns, and conducted an incubation experiment in the Bohai Sea in May 2017.CH_(4)concentration was found to be ranged from 3.075 to 1.795μmol/L in sediment, which was 2 to 3 orders of magnitude higher than that in overlying seawater columns. The surface sediment was an important source of CH_(4),while bottom seawater acted as its sink.Furthermore, the net emission rate via sediment water interface(SWI)was calculated as 2.45μmol/(m^(2)·day)based on the incubation experiment at station73,and the earthquake may enhance CH_(4)release from sediment to seawater column in the eastern Bohai Sea.

文摘In collaboration with 12 other institutions, the Meteorological Observation Center of the China Meteorological Administration undertook a comprehensive marine observation experiment in the South China Sea using the Yilong-10 high-altitude large unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV). It also demonstrates the potential for establishing operational UAV meteorological observing systems in the future, and the assimilation of such data into numerical weather prediction models.

文摘Hydrofluorocarbons(HFCs)have been widely used in China as substitutes for ozone-depleting substances, the production and use of which are being phased out under the Montreal Protocol.China is a major consumer of HFCs around the world, with its HFC emissions in CO2-equivalent contributing to about 18%of the global emissions for the period2012-16.Three methods are widely used to estimate the emissions of HFCs-namely,the bottom-up method,top-down method and tracer ratio method. In this study, the tracer ratio method was adopted to estimate HFC emissions in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD),using CO as a tracer. The YRD region might make a significant contribution to Chinese totals owing to its rapid economic growth.Weekly flask measurements for ten HFCs(HFC-23,HFC-32,HFC-125,HFC-134 a,HFC-143 a,HFC-152 a,HFC-227 ea,HFC-236 fa,HFC-245 fa and HFC-365 mfc)were conducted at Lin’an Regional Background Station in the YRD over the period 2012-16,and the HFC emissions were 2.4±1.4 Gg yr-1 for HFC-23,2.8±1.2 Gg yr-1 for HFC-32,2.2±1.2 Gg yr-1 for HFC-125,4.8±4.8 Gg yr-1 for HFC-134 a,0.9±0.6 Gg yr-1 for HFC-152 a,0.3±0.3 Gg yr-1 for HFC-227 ea and 0.3±0.2 Gg yr-1 for HFC-245 fa.The YRD total HFC emissions reached 53 Gg CO2-e yr-1,contributing 34%of the national total. The per capita HFC CO2-equivalent emissions rate was 240 kg yr-1,while the values of per unit area emissions and per million GDP emissions reached 150 Mg km-2yr-1 and 3500 kg yr-1(million CNY GDP)-1,which were much higher than national or global levels.

文摘This paper presents a novel approach for assessing the precision of the wet refractivity field using BDS (BeiDou navigation satellite system) simulations only,GPS,and BDS+GPS for the Shenzhen and Hongkong GNSS network. The simulations are carried out by adding artificial noise to a real observation dataset.Instead of using the δ and σ parameters computed from slant wet delay,as in previous studies,we employ the Bias and RMS parameters, computed from the tomography results of total voxels,in order to obtain a more direct and comprehensive evaluation of the precision of the refractivity field determination. The results show that:(1) the precision of tropospheric wet refractivity estimated using BDS alone (only 9 satellites used) is basically comparable to that of GPS; (2) BDS+GPS (as of current operation) may not be able to significantly improve the data's spatial density for the application of refractivity tomography; and (3) any slight increase in the precision of refractivity tomography, particularly in the lower atmosphere, bears great significance for any applications dependent on the Chinese operational meteorological service.

文摘The satellite-based quantification of cloud radiative forcing remains poorly understood, due largely to the limitation or uncertainties in characterizing cloud-base height(CBH).Here,we use the CBH data from radiosonde measurements over China in combination with the collocated cloud-top height(CTH) and cloud properties from MODIS/Aqua to quantify the impact of CBH on shortwave cloud radiative forcing(SWCRF).The climatological mean SWCRF at the surface(SWCRFSUR),at the top of the atmosphere(SWCRFTOA),and in the atmosphere(SWCRFATM) are estimated to be-97.14,-84.35,and 12.79 W m^(-2),respectively for the summers spanning 2010 to 2018 over China. To illustrate the role of the cloud base,we assume four scenarios according to vertical profile patterns of cloud optical depth(COD).Using the CTH and cloud properties from MODIS alone results in large uncertainties for the estimation of SWCRFATM,compared with those under scenarios that consider the CBH.Furthermore, the biases of the CERES estimation of SWCRFATM tend to increase in the presence of thick clouds with low CBH.Additionally, the discrepancy of SWCRFATM relative to that calculated without consideration of CBH varies according to the vertical profile of COD.When a uniform COD vertical profile is assumed, the largest SWCRF discrepancies occur during the early morning or late afternoon.By comparison, the two-point COD vertical distribution assumption has the largest uncertainties occurring at noon when the solar irradiation peaks. These findings justify the urgent need to consider the cloud vertical structures when calculating the SWCRF which is otherwise neglected.

文摘To investigate chemical profiles and formation mechanisms of aerosol particles in winter haze events, comprehensive measurements including hourly concentrations of PM2.5 and water-soluble inorganic ions and related gasphase precursors were conducted via an online monitoring system from January to March of 2016 in Shenzhen,a coastal mega-city in south China. In this study, high concentrations of PM2.5,NO2 and lower levels of O3 were observed during haze periods in comparison with clear days(Visibility>15 km).The major secondary ionic species were NH+4、NO-3 and SO2-4,which varied significantly on haze and clear days. The ratio of NO-3/SO2-4 in haze days was greater than that on clear days and tended to be larger when air pollution became more serious. At the same time, compared with previous studies,it has been found that the ratio has been increasing gradually in Shenzhen, indicating that the motor vehicle exhaust emissions have a more and more important impact on air quality in Shenzhen.Sulfur oxidation rate(SOR)and nitrogen oxidation rate(NOR)was higher during the haze period than that in clean days, indicating efficient gas to particle conversion.Further analysis shows that high concentrations of sulfate might be explained by aqueous oxidation, but gas-phase reactions might dominate nitrate formation. This study also highlights that wintertime nitrate formation can be an important contributor to aerosol particles, especially during haze periods.
