Bio-convective flow of gyrotactic microorganisms in nanofluid through a curved oscillatory channel with Cattaneo-Christov double diffusion theory

The present study investigates the flow,heat,and mass transfer analysis in the bioconvection of nanofluid containing motile gyrotactic microorganisms through a semi-porous curved oscillatory channel with a magnetic field.These microorganisms produce density gradients by swimming,which induces macroscopic convection flows in the fluid.This procedure improves the mass and heat transfer,illustrating the interaction between biological activity and fluid dynamics.Furthermore,instead of considering traditional Fourier's and Fick's law the energy and concentration equations are developed by incorporating Cattaneo-Christov double diffusion theory.Moreover,to examine the influence of thermophoresis and Brownian diffusions in the fluid we have adopted the Buongiorno nanofluid model.Due to the oscillation of the surface of the channel,the mathematical development of the considered flow problem is obtained in the form of partial differential equations via the curvilinear coordinate system.The convergent series solution of the governing flow equations is obtained after applying the homotopy analysis method(HAM).The effects of different pertinent flow parameters on velocity,motile microorganism density distribution,concentration,pressure,temperature,and skin friction coefficient are examined and discussed in detail with the help of graphs and tables.It is observed during the current study that the density of microorganisms is enhanced for higher values of Reynolds number,Peclet number,radius of curvature variable,and Lewis number. 展开更多

This paper examines the transport analysis,including both heat transfer and mass transfer,in hybrid nanofluid flow containing gyrotactic microorganisms towards a curved oscillatory surface.The influence of magnetic fields is also inspected in terms of their physical characteristics.To depict the phenomena of transport,modified versions of both Fick's and Fourier's laws are used.Additionally,the characteristics of both heterogeneous and homogeneous chemical reactions are also incorporated.Utilizing a curvilinear coordinate system,the flow problem is formulated as partial differential equations(PDEs)for momentum,concentration,microorganism field,and energy.An analytical solution to the obtained flow equations is achieved utilizing the homotopy analysis method(HAM).The effects of significant flow parameters on the pressure and microorganism fields,velocity,oscillation velocity,concentration,and temperature distributions are shown via graphs.Furthermore,the variations in skin friction,mass transfer rate,heat transfer rate,and local motile number due to different involved parameters are presented in tables and are analyzed in detail.Graphical results indicate that the curves of velocity and temperature fields are enhanced as the values of the solid volume fraction variables increase.It is also verified that the concentration rate field decreases as the values of the homogeneous reaction strength parameter and the radius of curvature parameter increase,and it increases with the Schmidt number and the heterogeneous reaction strength parameter.Tabular outcomes show a favorable response of the motile number to advanced values of the Peclet number,the Schmidt number,the microorganism difference parameter,and the bio-convective Lewis number. 展开更多

Peristaltic transport of non-Newtonian nanofluids with double diffusion is essential to biological engineering,microfluidics,and manufacturing processes.The authors tackle the key problem of Sisko nanofluids under double diffusion convection with thermal radiations and electroosmotic effects.Thestudy proposes a solution approach by using Morlet-Wavelet Neural Networks that can effectively solve this complex problem by their superior ability in the capture of nonlinear dynamics.These convergence analyses were calculated across fifty independent runs.Theil’s Inequality Coefficient and theMean Squared Error values range from 10^(-7) to 10^(-5) and 10^(-7) to 10^(-10),respectively.These values showed the proposed method is scientifically reliable and fast converging.Studies reveal that the intensity of the magnetic field causes a reduction in the flow velocity profile in the center of the channel.It is also evaluated that thermal radiations enhance the energy of the system,which promotes thermally induced diffusion and particle flow.The physical applications of this work pertain to improving fluid flow and heat transfer in engineering structures like converters or cooling devices or magnetic fluids in electronics,energy,and biomedical applications,where optimal control of fluid behavior is of paramount importance. 展开更多

Selective oxidation of amines to imines through electrocatalysis is an attractive and efficient way for the chemical industry to produce nitrile compounds,but it is limited by the difficulty of designing efficient catalysts and lack of understanding the mechanism of catalysis.Herein,we demonstrate a novel strategy by generation of oxyhydroxide layers on two-dimensional iron-doped layered nickel phosphorus trisulfides(Ni1-xFexPS_(3))during the oxidation of benzylamine(BA).In-depth structural and surface chemical characterizations during the electrocatalytic process combined with theoretical calculations reveal that Ni(1-x)FexPS_(3) undergoes surface reconstruction under alkaline conditions to form the metal oxyhydroxide/phosphorus trichalcogenide(NiFeOOH/Ni1-xFexPS_(3))heterostructure.Interestingly,the generated heterointerface facilitates BA oxidation with a low onset potential of 1.39 V and Faradaic efficiency of 53%for benzonitrile(BN)synthesis.Theoretical calculations further indicate that the as-formed NiFeOOH/Ni1-xFexPS_(3) heterostructure could offer optimum free energy for BA adsorption and BN desorption,resulting in promising BN synthesis. 展开更多

Mount Hilong-hilong is a key biodiversity area, spanning several municipalities in the provinces of the Caraga Region (Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur), northeastern Mindanao Island, southern Philippines. The Hilong-hilong massif remains one of the most signiifcant forested areas in Mindanao, threatened with habitat modification (forest removal, degradation) and other anthropogenic disturbances related to renewable resource extraction. Amphibians are key indicator species for environmental quality and are useful focal taxa for conservation efforts. Relying on historical museum database information and new survey work on Mount Hilong-hilong, we provide species accounts and describe microhabitat preferences of the anurans (frogs and toads) present in the area. Twenty-seven species representing seven anuran families were studied in detail at elevations between 700 to 1300 meters above sea level; 16 of these species are Mindanao faunal region endemics. Qualitative overlap in microhabitat use was observed, suggesting that, for the species recorded, intact forest may ensure species persistence to some levels of anthropogenic disturbance. A more extensive herpetofaunal survey is needed to fully estimate the herpetofaunal diversity of Mount Hilong-hilong. Because amphibians represent ifne-scale indicators of environmental quality and microendemism, we recommend appropriate ifne-scaled regional strategies geared towards the conservation of amphibians in the Caraga area, northeast Mindanao Island. 展开更多

Comparison of typhoon-induced near-inertial oscillations in shear flow in the northern South China Sea 被引量:5

With moorings equipped with Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) in the northern South China Sea (SCS) in 2008 and 2009, we observed three near-inertial oscillation (NIO) events coded 2008a, 2009a and 2009b induced by passages of typhoons or tropical storms. This study compares characteristics of the three NIO events. Event 2008a was the strongest one among the three, and had the longest sustaining period (15 d), while events 2009a and 2009b sustained for only 4 and 8 d, respectively. The three events were distinguished by vertical energy distribution and phase propagation. As for the frequency shift of the NIO, event 2008a had a peak frequency lower than the local Coriolis frequency (red-shift), while events 2009a and 2009b showed blue-shift. The behavior of individual NIO event is jointly decided by the typhoon disturbance and the background ocean condition. Especially the background flow plays an important role by effects of advection and modulation. The results in this study provide observational evidence of variational NIO response to background flow field. As indicated by the distribution of vorticity and effective Coriolis frequency derived from numerical modeling, the large amplitude and elongated sustaining period of event 2008a were attributed to the waveguide effect of the background shear flow. This effect redistributed the NIO energy after the typhoon passage, absorbed incident waves and trapped energy in the area of the negative vorticity. While the background flow during events 2009a and 2009b did not have such effects due to the near-zero vorticity in the mooring area. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Lymphatic basin dissection is a sentinel node biopsy method that is specific for gastric cancer.In this method,the dyed lymphatic system is dissected en bloc,and sentinel nodes are identified at the back table(ex vivo).Even with lymphatic basin dissection,blood flow to the residual stomach can be preserved,and functionpreserving curative gastrectomy can be performed.The oncological safety of function-preserving curative gastrectomy combined with lymphatic basin dissection has not yet been fully investigated.We hypothesized that the oncological safety of sentinel node navigation surgery(SNNS)is not inferior to that of the guidelines.AIM To investigate the life prognosis of SNNS for gastric cancer in comparison with guidelines surgery.METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study.Patients were selected from gastric cancer patients who underwent sentinel node biopsy from April 1999 to March 2016.Patients from April 1999 to August 2008 were from the Department of Surgery II,Kanazawa University Hospital,and patients from August 2009 to March 2016 were from the Department of Surgical Oncology,Kanazawa Medical University Hospital.Patients who were diagnosed with gastric cancer,which was preoperatively diagnosed as superficial type(type 0),5 cm or less in length,clinical T1-2 and node negative,and underwent various gastrectomies guided by sentinel node navigation were retrospectively collected.The overall survival(OS)and relapsefree survival(RFS)of these patients(SNNS group)were investigated.Patients with gastric cancer of the same stage and who underwent guidelines gastrectomy with standard nodal dissection were also selected as the control group.RESULTS A total of 239 patients in the SNNS group and 423 patients in the control group were included.Pathological nodal metastasis was observed in 10.5%and 10.4%of the SNNS and control groups,respectively.The diagnostic abilities of sentinel node biopsy were 84%and 98.6%for sensitivity and accuracy,respectively.In the SNNS group,81.6%of patients underwent modified gastrectomy or functionpreserving curative gastrectomy with lymphatic basin dissection,in which the extent of nodal dissection was further reduced compared to the guidelines.The OS rate in the SNNS group was 96.8%at 5 years and was significantly better than 91.3%in the control group(P=0.0014).The RFS rates were equal in both groups.After propensity score matching,there were 231 patients in both groups,and the cumulative recurrence rate was 0.43%at 5 years in the SNNS group and 1.30%in the control group,which was not statistically different.CONCLUSION The oncological safety of patients who undergo gastrectomy guided by sentinel node navigation is not inferior to that of the guidelines surgery. 展开更多

In this study,the stagnation point transport of second grade fluid with linear stretching under the effects of variable thermal conductivity is considered.Induced magnetic field impact is also incorporated.The nonlinear set of particle differential equations is converted into set of ordinary differential equations through appropriate transformation.The resulting equations are then resolved by optimal homotopy analysis method.The effect of pertinent parameters of interest on skin friction coefficient,temperature,induced magnetic field,velocity and local Nusselt number is inspected by generating appropriate plots.For numerical results,the built-in bvp4 c technique in computational software MATLAB is used for the convergence and residual errors of obtained series solution.It is perceived that the induced magnetic field is intensified by increasing β.It can also be observed that skin friction coefficient enhances with increasing value of magnetic parameter depending on the stretching ratio a/c.For the validness of the obtained results,a comparison has been made and an excellent agreement of current study with existing literature is found. 展开更多

The dry wood image was thoroughly transformed to the shape of the wet wood image prior to calculating the dry weight moisture content. The use of the image- processing algorithm for the dry weight moisture content on density data from the CT-scanning during drying in a controlled high-temperature environment showed that this method is a powerful tool for analyzing the moisture flow inside the wood piece. Furthermore, the new CT-scanner together with the climate chamber gave unique results, as it has not been possible to study high-temperature drying with this method before. 展开更多

This paper also includes a useful case that analyzes a globe Earth System simulations with the integration of scalable in-situ infrastructure and advanced data processing package. In this paper,the effects of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation on the stagnation–point flow of a micropolar fluid over a permeable stretching sheet with suction and injection are analyzed and discussed.A suitable similarity transformation is used to convert the governing nonlinear partial differential equations into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations,which are then solved numerically by a fourth–order Runge–Kutta method.It is found that the linear fluid velocity decreases with the enhancement of the porosity,boundary,and suction parameters.Conversely,it increases with the micropolar and injection parameters.The angular velocity grows with the boundary,porosity,and suction parameters,whereas it is reduced if the micropolar and injection parameters become larger.It is concluded that the thermal boundary layer extension increases with the injection parameter and decreases with the suction parameter. 展开更多

In combination with theoretical calculations,experiments were conducted to investigate the evolution behavior of nonmetallic inclusions(NMIs)during the manufacture of large-scale heat-resistant steel ingots using 9CrMoCoB heat-resistant steel and CaF_(2)–CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–SiO_(2)–B_(2)O_(3)electroslag remelting(ESR)-type slag in an 80-t industrial ESR furnace.The main types of NMI in the consumable electrode comprised pure alumina,a multiphase oxide consisting of an Al_(2)O_(3)core and liquid CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–SiO_(2)–MnO shell,and M_(23)C_(6)carbides with an MnS core.The Al_(2)O_(3)and MnS inclusions had higher precipitation temperatures than the M_(23)C_(6)-type carbide under equilibrium and nonequilibrium solidification processes.Therefore,inclusions can act as nucleation sites for carbide layer precipitation.The ESR process completely removed the liquid CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–SiO_(2)–MnO oxide and MnS inclusion with a carbide shell,and only the Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions and Al_(2)O_(3)core with a carbide shell occupied the remelted ingot.The M_(23)C_(6)-type carbides in steel were determined as Cr_(23)C_(6)based on the analysis of transmission electron microscopy results.The substitution of Cr with W,Fe,or/and Mo in the Cr_(23)C_(6)lattice caused slight changes in the lattice parameter of the Cr_(23)C_(6)carbide.Therefore,Cr_(21.34)Fe_(1.66)C_(6),(Cr_(19)W_(4)C_(6),Cr_(18.4)Mo_(4.6)C_(6),and Cr_(16)Fe_(5)Mo_(2)C_(6)can match the fraction pattern of Cr_(23)C_(6)carbide.The Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions in the remelted ingot formed due to the reduction of CaO,SiO_(2),and MnO components in the liquid inclusion.The increased Al content in liquid steel or the higher supersaturation degree of Al_(2)O_(3)precipitation in the remelted ingot than that in the electrode can be attributed to the evaporation of CaF_(2)and the increase in CaO content in the ESR-type slag. 展开更多

Sodium-alginate(SA)based nanofluids represent a new generation of fluids with improved performances in terms of heat transfer.This work examines the influence of the nanoparticle shape on a non–Newtonian viscoplastic Cu–nanofluid pertaining to this category.In particular,a stretching/shrinking sheet subjected to a transverse magnetic field is considered.The proposed Cu–nanofluid consists of four different nanoparticles having different shapes,namely bricks,cylinders,platelets,and blades dispersed in a mixture of sodium alginate with Prandtl number Pr=6.45.Suitable similarity transformations are employed to reduce non–linear PDEs into a system of ODEs and these equations and related boundary conditions are solved numerically by means of a Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg(RKF)method.Moreover,analytical solutions are obtained through the application of a MAPLE built–in differential equation solver(Dsolve).The behavior of prominent parameters against velocity and temperature is analyzed.It is found that the temperature increases for all shapes of nanoparticles with the viscoplastic parameter and the Eckert number. 展开更多

In this research article,we introduce a numerical investigation through artificial neural networks(ANN)integrated with evolutionary algorithm especially Archimedean optimization algorithm(AOA)hybrid with the water cycle algorithm(WCA)to address and enhance the analysis of the non-linear magneto-hydrodynamic(MHD)Jeffery-Hamel problem,especially stretching/shrinking in convergent and divergent channel.This combined technique is referred to as ANN-AOA-WCA.The complex nonlinear magneto-hydrodynamic Jeffery-Hamel problem based partial differential equations are transformed into non-linear system of ordinary differential equations for velocity and temperature.We formulate the ANN based fitness function to find the solution of non-linear differential.Subsequently,we employ a novel hybridization of AOA and WCA(AOA-WCA)to optimize the ANN based fitness function and identify the best optimal weights and biases for ANN.To demonstrate the effectiveness and versatility of our proposed hybrid method,we explore MHD models across a range of Reynolds numbers,channel angles and stretchable boundary value leading to the development of two distinct cases.ANN-AOA-WCA numerical results closely align with reference solutions(NDSOLVE)and the absolute error between NDSOLVE and ANN-AOA-WCA is up to 3.35´10^(-8),particularly critical to the understanding of stretchable convergent and divergent channel.Furthermore,to validate the ANN-AOA-WCA technique,we conducted a statistical analysis over 150 independence runs to find the fitness value. 展开更多

Anderson localization is a famous wave phenomenon that describes the absence of diffusion of waves in a disordered medium.Here we generalize the landscape theory of Anderson localization to general elliptic operators and complex boundary conditions using a probabilistic approach,and further investigate some mathematical aspects of Anderson localization that are rarely discussed before.First,we observe that under the Neumann boundary condition,the low energy quantum states are localized on the boundary of the domain with high probability.We provide a detailed explanation of this phenomenon using the concept of extended subregions and obtain an analytical expression of this probability in the one-dimensional case.Second,we find that the quantum states may be localized in multiple different subregions with high probability in the one-dimensional case and we derive an explicit expression of this probability for various boundary conditions.Finally,we examine a bifurcation phenomenon of the localization subregion as the strength of disorder varies.The critical threshold of bifurcation is analytically computed based on a toy model and the dependence of the critical threshold on model parameters is analyzed. 展开更多

The rapid advancement of data in web-based communication has created one of the biggest issues concerning the security of data carried over the internet from unauthorized access.To improve data security,modern cryptosystems use substitution-boxes.Nowadays,data privacy has become a key concern for consumers who transfer sensitive data from one place to another.To address these problems,many companies rely on cryptographic techniques to secure data from illegal activities and assaults.Among these cryptographic approaches,AES is a well-known algorithm that transforms plain text into cipher text by employing substitution box(S-box).The S-box disguises the relationship between cipher text and the key to guard against cipher attacks.The security of a cipher using an S-box depends on the cryptographic strength of the respective S-box.Therefore,various researchers have employed different techniques to construct high order non-linear S-box.This paper provides a novel approach for evolving S-boxes using coset graphs for the action of the alternating group A5 over the finite field and the symmetric group S256.The motivation for this work is to study the symmetric group and coset graphs.The authors have performed various analyses against conventional security criteria such as nonlinearity,differential uniformity,linear probability,the bit independence criterion,and the strict avalanche criterion to determine its high cryptographic strength.To evaluate its image application performance,the proposed S-box is also used to encrypt digital images.The performance and comparison analyses show that the suggested S-box can secure data against cyber-attacks. 展开更多
