This paper presents a novel active disturbance rejection control(ADRC)scheme based on a cascade connection of generalized proportional integral observers(GPIOs)with internal models designed to estimate both polynomial and resonant disturbances. In this estimator structure, referred to as Cascade GPIO(CGPIO),the total disturbance sensitivity is the product of the sensitivities at each cascade level. This approach improves system performance against both periodic and non-periodic disturbances and enhances robustness under frequency variations in harmonic components.Additionally, the decoupled nature of the estimator reduces the order of the GPIOs,thereby simplifying tuning and limiting observer gains. The proposed control scheme is supported by a frequency-domain analysis and is experimentally validated in the current control of a grid-connected converter subject to control gain uncertainties, harmonic distortion, frequency deviations, and measurement noise.Experimental results demonstrate that the CGPIO-based ADRC outperforms benchmark solutions, including proportional-integral(PI)and proportional-resonant(PR)controllers. 展开更多

Background: Evidence shows an association between grip strength and health;however, grip strength cut-offs for the detection of metabolic syndrome(MetS) in Latin American populations are scarce. The purpose of this study was to determine cut-offs of normalized grip strength(NGS)for the detection of MetS in a large nonrepresentative sample of a collegiate student population from Colombia. Methods: A total of 1795 volunteers(61.4% female;age = 20.68 ± 3.10 years, mean ± SD), ranging between 18 and 30 years of age participated in the study. Strength was estimated using a handheld dynamometer and normalized to body mass(handgrip strength(kg)/body mass(kg)). Anthropometrics, serum lipids indices, blood pressure, and fasting plasma glucose were measured. Body composition was measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis. MetS was defined as including ≥3 of the 5 metabolic abnormalities according to the International Diabetes Federation definition. A metabolic risk score was computed from the following components: waist circumference, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, glucose, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Results: Receiver operating curve analysis showed significant discriminatory accuracy of NGS in identifying the thresholds and risk categories.Lower strength was associated with increased prevalence of MetS. In males, weak, intermediate, and strong NGS values at these points were<0.466, 0.466-0.615, >0.615, respectively. In females, these cut-off points were <0.332, 0.332-0.437, >0.437, respectively. Conclusion: Our sex-specific cut-offs of NGS could be incorporated into a clinical setting for identifying college students at cardiometabolic disease risk. 展开更多

Based on histological analyses and field studies, this research describes the reproductive ecology of a population of Ninia atrata snakes inhabiting an oil palm plantation.Furthermore, through a multivariate approach,we explored the main drivers of reproductive output in N.atrata.Results showed that prey abundance and food intake were crucial variables contributing to reproductive output.Multiple linear regression models showed that neonates had high sensitivity(R2=55.29%)to extreme changes in climate, which was strongly related to slug and snail abundance variability and microhabitat quality.Reproductive cycles were markedly different between the sexes, being continuous in males and cyclical in females.Despite this variation, reproductive cycles at the population level were seasonal semi-synchronous.Constant recruitment of neonates all year, multiple clutches, high mating frequency, and continuous sperm production characterized the reproductive phenology of N.atrata.In addition,a significant number of previtellogenic females presented oviductal sperm as well as uterine scars, suggesting a high precocity in the species. The main drivers of reproductive output also differed between the sexes. In females, clutch size and secondary follicle variability were highly related to stomach bolus volume, fat body area, and body mass.In males, height of piles of palm leaves and body mass, rather than intrinsic reproductive traits, were the main drivers of sperm production.Nevertheless,in both cases, the relationship between body mass, prey abundance, and food intake suggests that N.atrata follows the income breeding strategy to compensate for reproductive costs and to maximize fitness. 展开更多

This study focuses on the correlation between sociology and complexity and it operates a reflection on the deep epistemological and ontological meaning of complexity, revealing how complexity goes beyond the analysis of the global society and is linked to sociology itself and to the issue of its scientific trait. The study shows how complexity, rediscovered following the globalization processes, reconnects sociology with its own origins and concerns the issue of the relation of sociological science with its own object, that is to say, society and social order. In a more radical manner, the challenge of complexity is intertwined with the road of revisiting modern science and epistemological identifying among "order", "intelligibility", and "science". In such a vision, complexity, not only reconnects sociology to its obiect, but highlights how those traits considered as non-scientific residue of human and social sciences belong to the fundamental issue of scientific knowledge. The challenge of complexity is outlined, as questioning the idea according to which the "modern" science depletes the "scientific vision of the world". 展开更多

Objective: The aim of this study is to validate the Italian version of the Developmental Disability-Child Global Assessment Scale (DD-CGAS), a scale developed to assess global functioning in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). Methods: Following the validation procedures used for the English version of the scale, inter-rater reliability, temporal stability and convergent validity were assessed in a group of 48 children with ASD and temporal stability in a subset of 42 subjects. Results: Inter-rater reliability and temporal stability (ICC) were respectively 0.78 and 0.79;effect size for convergent validity were moderate to large;the pre-post DD-CGAS change had an effect size of 0.59. Conclusions: The Italian version of the DD-CGAS is a reliable instrument for measuring global functioning of children with ASD. 展开更多
