The nonpreemptive assignment of independent tasks to a system of m uniform processors isexamined with the objective of minimizing the makespan. Using r_m, the ratio of the fasest speed tothe slowest speed of the system, as a parameter, we assess the performance of LPT (largestprocessing time) schedule with respect to optimal schedules. It is shown thet the worst-case boundfor the ratio of the two schedule lengths is between 展开更多

The paper presents a simulation model of the negative corona discharge in N2 under various pressures. The simulated discharge is of a negative point-to-plane mass type, with an inter-electrode separation distance of 20 mm and a symmetry about the axis of discharge. This simulation investigates the behavior of the neutral density and temperature for different pressures in the range of 0.1-10.0 bar. The spatial and temporal evolution of the neutral gas is analyzed based upon the equations of continuity, momentum and energy in a two-dimensional cylindrical geometry model. For that geometry of the system, the FCT (Flux Corrected Transport) technique was adopted. The results show that the pressure plays a significant role of the neutrals dynamics. 展开更多

This paper shows the modeling of a solar collective heating system in order to predict the system performances. Two systems are proposed: 1) the first, Solar Direct Hot Water, which is composed of flat plate collectors and thermal storage tank, 2) the second, a Solar Indirect Hot Water in which we added an external heat exchanger of constant effectiveness to the first system. The mass flow rate by a collector is fixed to 0.04 Kg·s–1 and the total number of collectors is adjusted to 60. For the first system, the maximum average water temperature within the tank in a typical day in summer and annual performances are calculated by varying the number of collectors connected in series. For the second, this paper shows the detailed analysis of water temperature within the storage and annual performances by varying the mass flow rate on the cold side of the heat exchanger and the number of collectors in series on the hot side. It is shown that the stratification within the storage is strongly influenced by mass flow rate and the connections between collectors. It is also demonstrated that the number of collectors that can be connected in series is limited. The optimization of the mass flow rate on cold side of the heat exchanger is seen to be an important factor for the energy saving. 展开更多

The behavior of non-Newtonian power-law nanofluids under free convection heat transfer conditions in a cooled square enclosure equipped with a heated fin is investigated numerically. In particular, the impact of nanofluids, composed of water and Al_(2)O_(3),TiO_(2),and Cu nanoparticles,on heat transfer enhancement is examined. The aim of this research is also to analyze the influence of different parameters, including the Rayleigh number(Ra=10^(4)-10^(6)),nanoparticle volume fraction(φ=0%-20%),non-Newtonian power-law indexes(n=0.6-1.4),and fin dimensions(Ar=0.3,0.5,and 0.7).Streamlines and isotherms are used to depict flow and related heat transfer characteristics. Results indicate that thermal performance improves with increasing Rayleigh number, regardless of the nanoparticle type or nanofluid rheological behavior. This suggests that the buoyancy force has a significant impact on heat transfer, particularly near the heat source. The Nusselt number is more sensitive to variations in Cu nanoparticle volume fractions compared to Al₂O₃and TiO₂.Moreover,the average Nusselt numbers for power-law nanofluids with n<1(n>1)are greater(smaller)than for Newtonian fluids due to the decrease(increase)in viscosity with increasing(decreasing)shear rate,at the same values of Rayleigh number Ra owing to the amplification(attenuation)of the convective transfer.Notably, the most substantial enhancement is observed with Cu-water shear-thinning nanofluid, where the Nusselt number increases by 136%when changing from Newtonian to shear thinning behavior and by 154.9%when adding 16%nanoparticle volume fraction. Moreover,an even larger increase of 57%in the average Nusselt number is obtained on increasing the fin length from 0.3 to 0.7. 展开更多

At Siemens, an in-house CFD (computational fluid dynamics) code UniFlow is used to investigate fluid flow and heat transfer in oil-immersed and dry-type transformers, as well as transformer components like windings, cores, tank walls, and radiators. This paper outlines its physical models and numerical solution methods. Furthermore, for oil-immersed transformers, it presents an application to a HV (high voltage) winding in a traction transformer of locomotives, cooled by synthetic ester. 展开更多
