This paper reports the effects of fiber breakage defects and waviness defects on the compressive fatigue behavior and the progressive damage evolution process of 3D Multiaxial Braided Composites (3DMBCs). Combined with finite element compression simulation and ultra-depth microscope, the internal defect content of composites with different braiding angles was determined. The results demonstrate that the weakening effect of waviness and fiber breakage defects is greater than the strengthening effect of the braiding angle. This causes the fatigue resistance of 3DMBCs with the 31° braiding angle being better in both directions of 0° and 90°. The increase of 4° waviness and 10% fiber breakage defect results in the average fatigue life of composites being shortened by 48% and the energy consumption rate increased by 10% at 85% stress level in 90° compression direction. The alteration in loading direction modifies the included angle corresponding to the stress component. The stress component parallel to the fiber direction under compressive fatigue load leads to interfacial debonding in the composites, whereas the stress component perpendicular to the fiber direction results in pronounced shear failure. 展开更多

The use of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)composite in the design of lightweight protective equipment, has gained a lot of interest. However, there is an urgent need to understand the ballistic response mechanism and theoretical prediction model of performance. This paper explores the ballistic response mechanism of UHMWPE composite through experimental and simulation analyses. Then,a resistance-driven modeling method was proposed to establish a theoretical model for predicting the bulletproof performance. The ballistic response mechanism of UHMWPE composite encompassed three fundamental modes:local response, structural response, and coupled response. The occurrence ratio of these fundamental response modes during impact was dependent on the projectile velocity and laminate thickness. The bulletproof performance of laminate under different response modes was assessed based on the penetration depth of the projectile, the bulging height on the rear face of the laminate, the thickness of remaining sub-laminate,and residual velocity of the projectile. The absolute deviations of bulletproof performance indicator between theoretical value and experimental value were well within 11.13%,demonstrating that the established evaluation model possessed high degree of prediction accuracy. 展开更多

The rapid development of communication technology and high-frequency electronic devices has created a need for more advanced electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding materials. In response to this demand,a study has been conducted to develop multifunctional carbon nanofibers(CNFs)/polyaniline(PANI)aerogels with excellent electromagnetic interference shielding, flame retardancy, and thermal insulation performance. The process involved freeze-drying of electrospun CNFs and PANI nanoparticles followed by in situ growth PANI to coat the CNFs,creating the core-shell structured CNFs/PANI composite fiber and its hybrid aerogels(CP-3@PANI).The interaction between PANI and aniline(ANI)provides attachment sites, allowing additional ANI adsorption into the aerogel for in situ polymerization. This results in PANI uniformly covering the surface of the CNFs,creating a core-shell composite fiber with a flexible CNF core and PANI shell. This process enhances the utilization rate of the ANI monomer and increases the PANI content loaded onto the aerogel.Additionally, effective connections are established between the CNFs,forming a stable, conductive three-dimensional network structure. The prepared CP-3@PANI aerogels exhibit excellent EMI shielding efficiency(SE)of 85.4 dB and specific EMI SE(SE d^(-1))of 791.2 dB cm^(3)g^(-1)in the X-band.Due to the synergistic flame-retardant effect of CNFs,PANI,and the dopant(phytic acid),the CP-3@PANI aerogels demonstrate outstanding flame-retardant and thermal insulation properties, with a peak heat release rate(PHRR)as low as 7.8 W g^(-1)and a total heat release of only 0.58 kJ g^(-1).This study provides an effective strategy for preparing multifunctional integrated EMI shielding materials. 展开更多

Low-velocity impact and in-plane axial compression after impact(CAI)behaviors of carbon-aramid/epoxy hybrid braided composite laminates were investigated experimentally. The following three different types of carbon-aramid/epoxy hybrid braided composite laminates were produced and tested:(a)inter-hybrid laminates,(b)sandwich-like inter-hybrid laminates,and(c)unsymmetric-hybrid laminates. At the same time,carbon/epoxy braided composite laminates were used for comparisons.Impact properties and impact resistance were studied.Internal damages and damage mechanisms of laminates were detected by ultrasonic C-scan and B-scan methods. The results show that the ductility index(DI)values of three kinds of hybrid laminates aforementioned are 37%,4%and 120%higher than those of carbon/epoxy laminates, respectively. The peak load of inter-hybrid laminates is higher than that of sandwich-like inter-hybrid laminates and unsymmetric-hybrid laminates. The average damage area and dent depths of inter-hybrid laminates are 64%and 69%smaller than those of carbon/epoxy laminates. Those results show that carbon-aramid/epoxy hybrid braided composite laminates could significantly improve the impact properties and toughness of non-hybrid braided composite laminates. 展开更多

A new strategy was developed to fabricate superhydrophobic nylon 6 nanofibers, in which the blend solutions of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) prepolymer and nylon 6 was spun using an innovative solution blowing process, and then the PDMS prepolymer contianning nanofibers were cured to obtain PDMS/nylon 6 nanofiber mats. Morphology, surface composition, non-wetting property and protective performance were investigated. The results showed that the addition of PDMS prepolymer improved the spinnability of the spinning solutions, and the PDMS/nylon 6 nanofibers had smooth surfaces and diameters from 100 nm to 350 nm. The presence of PDMS effectively enhanced the hydrophobicity of the nanofiber mats, showing water contact angles of 132° to 161° for PDMS contents of 1 wt% to 3 wt%. The PDMS/nylon 6 mats also possessed excellent protective and transport properties. The results indicated the potential application of the novel nanofiber mats in protective clothing. 展开更多

We investigated synthesis and characterization of melamine-urea-formaldehyde(MUF) microcapsules containing n-alkane mixture as phase change core material for thermal energy storage and low-temperature protection. The phase change microcapsules(microPCMs) were prepared by an in situ polymerization using sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) as emulsifiers. Surface morphology, particle size, chemical structure, and thermal properties of microPCMs were, respectively, characterized by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), and thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA). Low-temperature resistance performances were measured at-15,-30,-45, and-60 ℃ after microPCMs were coated on a cotton fabric by foaming technology. The results showed that spherical microPCMs had 4.4 μm diameter and 100 nm wall thickness. The melting and freezing temperatures and the latent heats of the microPCMs were determined as 28.9 and 29.6 ℃ as well as 110.0 and 115.7 J/g, respectively. Encapsulation of n-alkane mixture achieved 84.9 %. TGA analysis indicated that the microPCMs had good chemical stability below 250 ℃. The results showed that the microencapsulated n-alkane mixture had good energy storage potential. After the addition of 10 % microPCMs, low-temperature resistance duration was prolonged by 126.9%, 145.5%, 128.6%, and 87.5% in environment of-15,-30,-45 and-60 ℃, respectively as compared to pure fabric. Based on the results, phase change microcapsule plays an effective role in lowtemperature protection field for the human body. 展开更多
