To determine the localization and associative strength of acid polysaccharides Ph-PS-1, -2, and -3 incoccoliths of Pleurochrysis haptonemofera, we analyzed the acid polysaccharides extracted with urea from partially decalcified coccoliths. On treatment of coccoliths with8.0 Murea at pH8.0 inboiling water, Ph-PS-2 was not extracted, but parts of Ph-PS-1 and -3 were from the surface without the crystal morphology being affected. When coccoliths were partially decalcified at various pHs (pH 8.0 - 5.0), Ph-PS-1, -3, and -2 were extracted with urea in that order as the calcite crystals dissolved. Detection of the acid polysaccharides using fluorescein-isothiocyanate-labeled lectin (ConA) and anti-Ph-PS-2 antibodies demonstrated that Ph-PS-2 exists on the surfaces of both untreated and urea-treated coccoliths. Moreover, NaClO-treatment under moderate conditions extracted only Ph-PS-1, -3, and part of Ph-PS-2 from coccoliths, without separation of the crystal units, suggesting that at least some part of Ph-PS-2 acts as a glue connecting crystal units and/or a crystal unit and a base plate inside coccoliths. These results suggest that Ph-PS-2 exists not only on the surface but also inside of the coccoliths, most of it being strongly bound to coccoliths, while Ph-PS-1 and -3 are weakly associated close to the coccolith surface, in that order from the surface. This strongly supports a scheme in which PS-2 type acid polysaccharides play an important role in the crystal nucleation and PS-3 type functions during crystal growth.展开更多

The ORAC values of phloroglucinol and it’s oligomers: eckol, fucofuroeckol A, phlorofucofuroeckol A, dieckol, 8,8’-bieckol, were 2.57 ± 0.14, 4.97 ± 0.36, 9.82 ± 0.70, 8.97 ± 0.89, 10.22 ± 0.85, 8.62 ± 0.92 μmol Trolox equivalent/μmol, respectively. With the exception of eckol, the ORAC values of tested phlorotannins were higher than those of the well-known antioxidants (epigallocatechin gallate, resveratrol and L-ascorbic acid) used as positive controls. As a result of comparing with known ORAC values, it was found that the dieckol and fucofuroeckol A had stronger antioxidant activity than representative polyphenols (e.g., kaempferol, quercetin, myricetin and chlorogenic acid) derived from terrestrial plants.展开更多

We estimate the distribution without tracking technology, with pedestrian's privacy protected and in Umeda underground mall. Lately spatiotemporal distribution of pedestrians has being increasingly important in the field of urban planning, disaster prevention planning, marketing and so on. Although many researchers have tried to capture the information of location as dealing with some sensors, some problems still remain, such as the investment of sensors, the restriction of the number of people who has the device they are able to capture. From such background, we develop an original labelling algorithm and estimate the spatiotemporal distribution of pedestrians and the information of the passing time and the direction of pedestrians from sequential images of a watch camera.展开更多

In this paper, we present a computational method to create "Hollow mask" type new illusionary solid by calculating the hollow structure and its shading. The straight line Voronoi diagram for a given shape obtains the three-dimensional vertices of the hollow structure and the shading effect on each surface is calculated under the assumption that each surface has diffusely reflecting surface(Lambertian reflectance). We also show two examples of our new illusionary solid works.展开更多

The insulating TNO films were intentionally fabricated by annealing conductive TNO films in oxygen ambient at 400 ℃. Reduced free carrier absorption in the insulating TNO films indicated carrier com- pensation due to excess oxygen. With H2-annealing, both carrier density and Hall mobility recovered to the level of conducting TNO, demonstrating that the excess oxygen can be efficiently removed by the annealing process without introducing additional scattering centers.展开更多
