Well aligned quasi-straight single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and straight SWCNTs bundle have been prepared in large scale by anode-arc vaporization of gr aphite with metallic catalysts. Various parameters such as the catalyst preparat ion, the kinds and pressure of the buffer gases, the quantity of anode-arc curre nt intensity, and the method of purification have been examined. The influence o f these parameters on the deposited carbon yield is reported, together with obse rvations of the produced material. Improvement in synthetic techniques has resul ted in the optimal conditions for the production of large quantities of high qua lity SWCNTs in our semi-continuous synthesis method. The formation of carbon nan otubes (CNTs) was studied briefly in this paper. Owing to the magnetic pinching effect of arc current, the CNTs arrange in parallel lines along the arc current direction. 展开更多

A sandwich structure with cladding alloyed 316L stainless steel on plain carbon steel was prepared by means of powder metallurgy (PM) processing. Electrolytic Cu and prealloyed bronze (95Cu wt pct, 5Sn wt pct) were added in different contents up to 15% into the surface cladded 316L layers and the effect of alloying concentrations on the corrosion resistance of the 316L cladding layers was studied. The corrosion performances of the cladding samples were studied by immersion tests and potentio-dynamic anodic polarization tests in H2S04 and FeCI3 solutions. Both 316L and alloyed 316L surface layers with 1.0 mm depth produced by PM cladding had an effect to improve corrosion resistance in H2SO4 and FeCI3 solutions. Small Cu and bronze addition (4%) had a positive effect in H2SO4 and FeCI3 solutions. 4% Cu alloyed 316L surface layer produced by PM cladding showed similar anodic polarization behaviour to the 316L cladding layer in H2SO4 and FeCl3 solutions. 展开更多

To investigate the degradation of corrosion resistance of Zircaloy-4 in LiOHaqueous solution, SIMS (secondary ion mass spectrometry) analysis was performed to examine theprofiles of Li^+, K^+, and OH^- in oxide layers formed in the same concentration (0.1 mol/L) LiOHand KOH solutions. Even though the oxide layers have an equal thickness, the pene-tration depth ofK^+ is shallower than that of Li^+, and the penetration depth of OH^- corroded in KOH solution isalso shal-ower than that corroded in LiOH solution. It shows that the diffusion of OH^- into oxidelayer is accompanied by the corresponding cation. The difference of degradation effect of LiOH andKOH solutions on the corrosion resistance of Zircaloy-4 was discussed. 展开更多

Composition of the Alnico powders was Fe37.1 A18.2Ni17.6-Co26.6 Cu3.3 Ti7.2 (wt pct) which was the same as that of commercially available Alnico magnets. Averageparticle size of the powders was 119μm. Effects of heat treatment in magnetic field on magnetic properties of thepowders were investigated. The optimum process of heat treatment was found as follows, heated at 870℃ for 1min first, then cooled down to 700℃ at cooling rate 0.3℃/s in magnetic field, and finally aged isothermally for 4 h.Magnetic properties of the Alnico powders were measued and the results were that intrinsic coercivity i_H_c was 1.0kOe and remanence M_r was 36.5 emu/g. 展开更多

The interaction of water vapor and oxygen with TiAI-based alloy has been studied with Auger electron spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results indicate that both surface reactions initiate at a very short exposure (about 6×10-7 Pa·s) and the oxides Al2O3 and TiO2 form in the surface reactions. In the oxidizing reaction, the water vapor reacts firstly with Al, and then reacts with Ti after certain exposure. The surface reaction of Al with water vapor may be responsible for the environmental embrittlement at room temperature in TiAI-based alloy. 展开更多

The crystallization process of metallic glass Zr_(65)Al_(7.5)Ni_(10)Gu_(17.5)(atom fraction in percent) were studied by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.Two stages of crystallization process, which are indicated by the two exothermic peaks in thedifferential scanning calorimetry diagram, were studied separately. It is found that the phases inthe various stage of the crystallization are different. In the first stage, it consists mainly oftI-CuZr_2 and tP-Al_2Zr_3 phases, between which a definite orientation relationship is found. Whilein the second stage, in addition to the above phases, phase hP^2-Al_2NiZr_6 and phase hP^3-alpha-Zrappear, between which another orientation relationship is also found. At the same time, a comparisonis made based on the study of the phases exist in the arc-melted master ingot. The latticeparameters of the identified phases were determined and some interesting similarities were found.According to these similarities, all the phases were classified into two groups. The first is: oB,tI-CuZr_2 and hP^3-alpha-Zr; the other is: hP^2, tP-Al_2NiZr_3 and hP^1-Al_2NiZr_6. Therelationships between phases in these two groups were investigated and the probable reasons that mayresult in these relationships were discussed. 展开更多

An amorphous alloy composition was found in thissystem and a melt-spinning amorphous alloy was produced in this composition.
