Lateral friction and overlapping driving are introduced to describe the interactions between motorized vehicles and non-motorized vehicles. By numerical simulations, the flux-density relation, the temporal-spatial dynamics, and the velocity evolution are investigated in detail The results indicate non-motorized vehicles have a significant impact on the motorized vehicle flow and cause the maximum flux to decline by about 13%. Non-motorized vehicles can decrease the motorized vehicle velocity and cause velocity oscillation when the motorized vehicle density is low. Moreover, non-motorized vehicles show a significant damping effect on the oscillating velocity when the density is medium and high, and such an effect weakens as motorized vehicle density increases. The results also stress the necessity for separating motorized vehicles from non-motorized vehicles.展开更多

The state variables in the systems with uncertain parameters are used to construct the parameter recognizers, and the unknown parameters are identified. Uncertain spatiotemporal chaotic systems are taken as the nodes of complex dynamical networks, connection among the nodes of all the spatiotemporal chaotic systems is of nonlinear coupling. The structure of the coupling functions between the connected nodes and the control gain are obtained based on Lyapunov stability theory. It is seen that stable chaos synchronization exists in the whole network when the control gain is in a certain range. The Gray-Scott models which have spatiotemporal chaotic behaviour are taken as examples for simulation and the results show that the method is very effective.展开更多

The character of the spiral waves and the spatiotemporal chaos in the Fitzhugh-Nagumo model is presented. In this paper, with the aid of Maple, new solutions of (2+1)-dimensional generalization of mKd V equation, which is of only linearly dispersive terms, are investigated using three new transformations. To characterize the effect of the feedback, we define a procedure that involves a self-organization of trip distribution during the process of cascading failures. For this purpose, user equilibrium with variable demand is used as an alternative way to determine the traffic flow pattern throughout the network. Under the attack, cost function dynamics are introduced to discuss edge overload in complex networks, where each edge is assigned a finite capacity (controlled by parameter α). We find that scale-free networks without considering the effect of the feedback are expected to be very sensitive to α as compared with random networks, while this situation is largely improved after introducing the feedback.展开更多

Mathematically, the APF model in a power grid is a typical nonlinear one. The idea of passivity is a powerful tool to study the stabilization of such a nonlinear system. In this paper, a state-space model of the four-leg APF is derived, based on which a new H-infinity controller for current tracking is proposed from the passivity point of view. It can achieve not only asymptotic tracking, but also disturbance attenuation in the sense of L2-gain. Subsequently, a sufficient condition to guarantee the boundedness and desired mean of the DC voltage is also given. This straightforward condition is consistent with the power-balancing law of electrical circuits. Simulations performed on PSCAD platform verify the validity of the new approach.展开更多

Such approach includes mainly three functional modules, environmental detection, population initialization and immune evolution. The first, inspired by the function of immune surveillance, is designed to detect the change of such kind of problem and to decide the type of a new environment;the second generates an initial population for the current environment, relying upon the result of detection;the last evolves two sub-populations along multiple directions and searches those excellent and diverse candidates. Experimental results show that the proposed approach can adaptively track the environmental change and effectively find the global Pareto-optimal front in each environment.展开更多

A sufficient condition for the existence of a robust controller is presented under the assumption that there are perturbations both in the numerator and in the denominator of the nominal system. This condition can be given by an inequality that is satisfied by the coefficient vectors of the perturbed polynomials. Based on this, the robust controller family stabilizing the system family can be obtained. Therefore, the condition has the advantages of easy computing and further satisfying other required properties.展开更多

In the past three decades, many models have been proposed to solve the passenger flow assignment problem. However, the common-line problem remains challenging in transit flow assignment. In this paper, the characteristics of the urban transit network is analysed and a new technique of augmented network is proposed to represent the urban transit system. The purpose is to eliminate the complex common-line problem when modeling transit passenger flow assignment. Through this augmentation technique, the urban transit system can be represented by an augmented network-it then behaves like a simple network and can be used as a generalized network for traffic assignment or network analysis. This paper presents a user equilibrium model for the urban transit assignment problem based on such a technique. A numerical example is also provided to illustrate the approach.展开更多
