Moving toward a circular economy requires improvement of the economic and environmental performance of municipalities in their provision of municipal solid waste(MSW)services.Understanding performance changes over yea...Moving toward a circular economy requires improvement of the economic and environmental performance of municipalities in their provision of municipal solid waste(MSW)services.Understanding performance changes over years is fundamental to support decision-making.This study employs the Luenberger-Hicks-Moorsteen productivity indicator to evaluate eco-productivity change and its drivers in the MSW sector in Chile over the years 2015-2019.The further use of decision tree and linear regression analysis allows exploration of the interaction between operating characteristics and eco-productivity estimations.The results of the eco-productivity assessment show that,although the Chilean MSW sector was still facing a transitional period,from 2015 to 2019,eco-productivity increased 1.28%per year.Gains in eco-productivity were due to technical progress and small gains in efficiency,whereas scale effect had an adverse impact.Other factors such as waste spending per inhabitant and the amount of waste collected and recycled per inhabitant had a significant impact on the eco-productivity of Chilean municipalities.展开更多
Brewer's spent grains(BSG),a major by-product of the brewing industry,represent an abundant and sustainable resource for bioactive compounds like ferulic acid(FA),a potent natural antioxidant.This study utilized c...Brewer's spent grains(BSG),a major by-product of the brewing industry,represent an abundant and sustainable resource for bioactive compounds like ferulic acid(FA),a potent natural antioxidant.This study utilized chemical,enzymatic,and hydrothermal hydrolysis methods to extract FA,achieving the highest encapsulation efficiencies(97-98%)through enzymatic and hydrothermal processes.By incorporating FA into advanced nano-delivery systems,the research demonstrated enhanced stability,bioavailability,and regenerative properties in in vitro models,including HaCaT and human dermal fibroblast(HDF)cells,as well as 3D reconstructed epidermis.These systems promoted wound closure(50%in 6 h and 100%in 24 h)and reduced reactive oxygen species levels by 94%,highlighting their efficacy.This work showcases a circular economy approach,transforming BSG from waste into a valuable resource,paving the way for sustainable applications in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.展开更多
The design of robust H_(∞)controllers is considered here for a class of two-dimensional(2-D)discrete switched systems described by the Roesser model with polytopic uncertainties.Attention focuses on the design of a s...The design of robust H_(∞)controllers is considered here for a class of two-dimensional(2-D)discrete switched systems described by the Roesser model with polytopic uncertainties.Attention focuses on the design of a switched state feedback controller,which guarantees the robust asymptotic stability and a prescribedH_(∞)performance for the closed-loop system.By using multiple parameter-dependent Lyapunov functionals,and introducing some switched free-weighting matrices,a new sufficient condition for the robust H_(∞)performance analysis of uncertain 2-D discrete switched systems is developed.Furthermore,the design of switched state feedback controller is proposed in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs).Illustrative examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed theoretical results.展开更多
