High thermal stability of the textural properties is one of the most important requirements for practical application since temperatures up to 1273 K are easily experienced by these materials under real working conditions. In the present paper, we investigated how hydrothermal treatments applied to cakes of doped and undoped ZrO2-rich CeO2-ZrO2 precursors might improve the thermal stability of the final CeO2-ZrO2 solid solution. A rationale was developed that allowed to correlate the morphology of the hydrothermaUy treated cake with the thermal stability at 1273 K of the final product, which did not depend on the composition of the mixed oxides.展开更多
Human papillomavirus 18(HPV18) E6 and E7 oncogenes are transcribed as a single bicistronic E6 E7 pre-mRNA. The E6 ORF region in the bicistronic E6 E7 pre-mRNA contains an intron. Splicing of this intron disrupts the E...Human papillomavirus 18(HPV18) E6 and E7 oncogenes are transcribed as a single bicistronic E6 E7 pre-mRNA. The E6 ORF region in the bicistronic E6 E7 pre-mRNA contains an intron. Splicing of this intron disrupts the E6 ORF integrity and produces a spliced E6*I RNA for efficient E7 translation. Here we report that the E6 intron has two overlapped branch point sequences(BPS) upstream of its 30 splice site, with an identical heptamer AACUAAC, for E6*I splicing. One heptamer has a branch site adenosine(underlined) at nt 384 and the other at nt 388. E6*I splicing efficiency correlates to the expression level of E6 and E7 proteins and depends on the selection of which branch site. In general, E6*I splicing prefers the 30 ss-proximal branch site at nt 388 over the distal branch site at nt 384. Inactivation of the nt 388 branch site was found to activate a cryptic acceptor site at nt 636 for aberrant RNA splicing. Together, these data suggest that HPV18 modulates its production ratio of E6 and E7 proteins by alternative selection of the two mapped branch sites for the E6*I splicing, which could be beneficial in its productive or oncogenic infection according to the host cell environment.展开更多
Population health intervention research(PHIR)was initiated in the field of primary prevention by proposing a research paradigm focusing on intervention and the theory of solutions.The intervention was coconstructed wi...Population health intervention research(PHIR)was initiated in the field of primary prevention by proposing a research paradigm focusing on intervention and the theory of solutions.The intervention was coconstructed with the stakeholders as part of a global approach until its deployment in the local area.The development of PHIR raises the question of its application to tertiary prevention.This study proposes some initial thoughts on the similarities and specificities of PHIR projects-funded by the French National Cancer Institute(INCa)-of support systems for people affected by cancer and their families,which were based on a descriptive analysis.The selected projects were obtained from the databases of PHIR projects funded from 2010 to 2021,which included 72 projects to which the inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied.A descriptive analysis was carried out for each project using the application files and the interim or final reports sent to INCa.A total of 30 projects were selected,half of which were in the public health field.Almost all of the projects involved a university–hospital partnership,and one-third involved healthcare professionals and patients in the research process.Patient involvement was classified into four types,which were linked to the supporting structure and the target population.The main themes of the projects were quality of life and adapted physical activity,which were assessed in hospitals through randomized controlled trials targeting specific cancers.Research has revealed several specificities and similarities between support systems for people affected by cancer and their families developed in PHIR projects;however,these support systems vary widely,and PHIR in tertiary prevention can be conducted in several ways.Any modeling of the systems is complicated;PHIR is evolving in its application and is the subject of research and evaluation.展开更多

The results show that chitosaccharides either positively or negatively affect soybean nodulation or plant...The influence of chitosaccharides on the symbiotic interaction between Bradyrhizobium and soybean was examined. The results show that chitosaccharides either positively or negatively affect soybean nodulation or plant growth depending on their molecular weight, concentration and the application methods. When directly added to the in vitro culture media, chitosan of high molecular weight inhibit Bradyrhizobium viability in a dose dependent manner while chitooligosaccharides reduce slightly the bacteria viability only at concentration equal or higher than 50 mg·L<sup>-1</sup>. Chitooligosaccharides significantly enhance nodule formation and dry mass in soybean roots at doses between 10 and 100 mg·L<sup>-1</sup>. Both types of chitosaccharides, at the highest doses (>500 mg·L<sup>-1</sup>), negatively affect plant height and root size, whereas medium doses (50 to 100 mg·L<sup>-1</sup>) increase slightly leave number. Under field conditions, foliar application of both chitosaccharides enhances growth and nodulation of soybean plants. Nevertheless, using this application method, chitosan remains more effective than chitooligosaccharides.展开更多

For those working in agricultural supply chains, the challenges remain significant, given the diverse direct and indirect emissions occurring throughout the value chain. This study determines the carbon footprint of the supply chain of Costa Rican coffee exported to Europe, using best practice methodology to calculate greenhouse gas emissions. Overall, it was found that the total carbon footprint across the entire supply chain is 4.82 kg CO2e kgx green coffee. The carbon footprint of the processes in Costa Rica to produce l km of green coffee is 1.77 kg CO2e. The processes within Europe generate 3.05 kg CO2e kg-1 green coffee. This carbon footprint is considered as "very high intensity". This paper also identifies the sources of the most intense emission and discusses mitigation possibilities on which efforts must be focused.展开更多

Development of second malignancies is the greatest risk of oral cGVHD patients, mostly regarding squamous cell carcinoma. This study aimed to evaluate renal function after major urologic surgery and intraoperative dexmedetomidine infusion. Methods: Thirty oncologic patients with normal renal function scheduled for prostatectomy or nephrectomy, anesthetized with combined epidural and general anesthesia, were randomized to receive either intraoperative blind infusion of dexmedetomidine (Dexmedetomidine Group, n = 15, 0.5 μg/kg load dose plus 0.7 μg/kg/h) or 0.9% saline (Control Group, n = 15) until the end of surgery. Intraoperative and cumulative 24-hour diuresis, serum creatinine (SCr), calculated creatinine clearance (ClCr) and serum cystatin C (SCys) at postoperative days 1, 2 and 3 and 2 weeks after surgery were evaluated. Results: Mean ± standard deviation values for intraoperative diuresis in Dexmedetomidine and Control Groups were 566 ± 396 mL and 298 ± 153 mL, respectively (p = 0.014). Cumulative 24-hour diuresis in Dexmedetomidine and Control Groups was 1947 ± 266 mL and 1748 ± 237 mL, respectively (p = 0.91). Mean values of SCr, ClCr and SCys were not significantly different from their baseline values in both groups and no significant differences were seen between groups at any moment for two weeks (p > 0.05). Conclusion: According to the doses used in this study, despite an intraoperative increase in diuresis, intraoperative infusion of dexmedetomidine did not influence renal performance up to two weeks after major uro-oncologic surgery, as evaluated by SCr, ClCr and SCys.展开更多

There has been a trend of trying to subcategorize DCIS based on cell proliferation assays (Ki67) and the expression of hormone receptors and the human epidermal growth receptor (HER-2) as detected by immunohistochemistry, similar to invasive breast carcinomas (IBC). The aims were to evaluate the expression of breast cancer marker proteins in DCIS by immunohistochemistry to better categorize it. <strong>Methods:</strong> 46 biopsies from women with DCIS and IBC Luminal A-like were evaluated by immunohistochemistry staining of proteins already known to be biomarkers in IBC. For controls, normal breast tissue from mammoplasty (n = 3) was used. <strong>Results:</strong> Our results showed an increase of estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) expression relative to that in normal tissue samples (p < 0.0001). No differences in steroid hormone expression patterns were seen between DCIS and IBC tumors (p = 0.3145;p = 0.7341, respectively). The proliferation levels of the DCIS and IBC samples were similar as evaluated by the Ki67 labeling index. Only 12.90% of samples showed amplification of HER-2. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> The biology of DCIS is not well understood given the complexity and heterogeneity of the disease, which makes it important to better sub-categorize this tumor, especially considering the possibility of identifying DCIS cases with the potential for recurrence and evolution into IBC.</span> </div>展开更多
A novel type of application for the exploration of enclosed or otherwise difficult to access environments requires large quantities of miniaturized sensor nodes to perform measurements while they traverse the environm...A novel type of application for the exploration of enclosed or otherwise difficult to access environments requires large quantities of miniaturized sensor nodes to perform measurements while they traverse the environment in a “go with the flow” approach. Examples of these are the exploration of underground cavities and the inspection of industrial pipelines or mixing tanks, all of which have in common that the environments are difficult to access and do not allow position determination using e.g. GPS or similar techniques. The sensor nodes need to be scaled down towards the millimetre range in order to physically fit through the narrowest of parts in the environments and should measure distances between each other in order to enable the reconstruction of their positions relative to each other in offline analysis. Reaching those levels of miniaturization and enabling reconstruction functionality requires: 1) novel reconstruction algorithms that can deal with the specific measurement limitations and imperfections of millimetre-sized nodes, and 2) improved understanding of the relation between the highly constraint hardware design space of the sensor nodes and the reconstruction algorithms. To this end, this work provides a novel and highly robust sensor swarm reconstruction algorithm and studies the effect of hardware design trade-offs on its performance. Our findings based on extensive simulations, which push the reconstruction algorithm to its breaking point, provide important guidelines for the future development of millimetre-sized sensor nodes.展开更多

Animal production is one of the most expressive activities of Brazilian agribusiness. In order to ensure the productivity and competitiveness of the sector, the use of drugs for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes is a common practice. Due to the continuous release of antimicrobials into the environment, the aim of this study was to compare the frequency of detection of tetracyclines and sulfonamides in surface water collected from rural areas in Lidice District of Rio Claro, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. An investigative study was conducted with 24 river water samples analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry and the aim of this study was to determine residues of sulfonamides and tetracyclines based on the USEPA method 1694. The results indicated the presence of sulfamethoxazole and oxytetracycline concentrations at the ng·L<sup>-1</sup> level. The applied method showed overall good performance with recoveries above 57%, method detection limits ≤ 7.17 ng·L<sup>-1</sup>, method quantification limits ≤ 23.90 ng·L<sup>-1</sup> and good linearity.展开更多

This microorganism can penetrate the human body through direct contact and can cause intense lymphadenopathy, ulcerated lesions in the oral cavity and in the skin among other alterations. In this study, we report a case of paracoccidioidomycosis with unusual clinical presentation, as it manifested in the female sex and although it did not present any relevant complaints of respiratory focus, it presented a single ulcerated lesion in the buccal mucosa. A biopsy of the lesion and a mycological examination revealed Paracoccidioidesbrasiliensis infection.展开更多

The main question is the technical-surgical care during its execution aiming to achieve reparative results that can return to these women the desire to live with better quality of life and health. Method: We performed a retrospective study of all obese patients with severe gigantomastia who underwent reduction mammaplasty with an operative technique using the superior pedicle, with special care for the nipple-papillary grafts. The study was carried out at a single institution between 2001 and 2013, in a total of 30 cases. This operative technique was presented at first time in 1980, with no changes up to now. We emphasized the perfect decortication of the areola and nipples until they were translucent after the maneuvers of Schwartzman and subsequent grafts operated in both breasts. Results: Results were considered satisfactory, from the reparative and aesthetic point of view, emphasizing the degree of improvement observed in women undergoing technique. Discussion: We can say that during all this time of aesthetic and therapeutic-restorative surgery, due to its realization in a single surgical time, there was big impact on the aesthetics of patients and on their families, even taking into account possible complications in the post-operative. Conclusion: The superior pedicle technique, performed as described here, is a safe and reliable procedure in patients with severe gigantomastia.展开更多

文摘Volatility of commodity prices has affected dramatically the coffee industry in recent years, particularly small holder farmers. Differentiation of coffee through certification, such as sustainahility and quality attributes, has been proposed as a strategy for protection of the farmers against volatility in the international prices. This research paper evaluated three different models to explore the effectiveness of the differentiation strategies in protecting the farmer against price volatility in recent years, focusing on the case of Costa Rica. Evidence showed important differences in the price dynamics over time when comparing three groups of coffee.
文摘There are 22 times as many people living with HIV in the population of drug users as in the general population.This is because the injection and sexually risky behaviors prevalent in this population.Having multiple sexual partners and maintaining sexual networks with people who inject drugs (PWIDs),can increase the risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection^([1]).More than 65%of all HIVrelated cases in Iran can be traced back to people who inject drugs (PWID),and the number is estimated to be between 200,000 and 230,000 in Iran overall.Effective prevention,resources allocation and monitoring require an accurate estimate of the population of people who use illicit drugs^([2]).
文摘<div style="text-align:justify;"> <span style="font-family:Verdana;"><strong>Introduction:</strong> Breast ductal carcinoma <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><i>In Situ</i></span> (DCIS) can be defined as a malignant epithelial proliferation with growth limited by the basal membrane of the ductal epithelium, with no evidence of stromal invasion. There has been a trend of trying to subcategorize DCIS based on cell proliferation assays (Ki67) and the expression of hormone receptors and the human epidermal growth receptor (HER-2) as detected by immunohistochemistry, similar to invasive breast carcinomas (IBC). The aims were to evaluate the expression of breast cancer marker proteins in DCIS by immunohistochemistry to better categorize it. <strong>Methods:</strong> 46 biopsies from women with DCIS and IBC Luminal A-like were evaluated by immunohistochemistry staining of proteins already known to be biomarkers in IBC. For controls, normal breast tissue from mammoplasty (n = 3) was used. <strong>Results:</strong> Our results showed an increase of estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) expression relative to that in normal tissue samples (p < 0.0001). No differences in steroid hormone expression patterns were seen between DCIS and IBC tumors (p = 0.3145;p = 0.7341, respectively). The proliferation levels of the DCIS and IBC samples were similar as evaluated by the Ki67 labeling index. Only 12.90% of samples showed amplification of HER-2. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> The biology of DCIS is not well understood given the complexity and heterogeneity of the disease, which makes it important to better sub-categorize this tumor, especially considering the possibility of identifying DCIS cases with the potential for recurrence and evolution into IBC.</span> </div>

文摘A novel type of application for the exploration of enclosed or otherwise difficult to access environments requires large quantities of miniaturized sensor nodes to perform measurements while they traverse the environment in a “go with the flow” approach. Examples of these are the exploration of underground cavities and the inspection of industrial pipelines or mixing tanks, all of which have in common that the environments are difficult to access and do not allow position determination using e.g. GPS or similar techniques. The sensor nodes need to be scaled down towards the millimetre range in order to physically fit through the narrowest of parts in the environments and should measure distances between each other in order to enable the reconstruction of their positions relative to each other in offline analysis. Reaching those levels of miniaturization and enabling reconstruction functionality requires: 1) novel reconstruction algorithms that can deal with the specific measurement limitations and imperfections of millimetre-sized nodes, and 2) improved understanding of the relation between the highly constraint hardware design space of the sensor nodes and the reconstruction algorithms. To this end, this work provides a novel and highly robust sensor swarm reconstruction algorithm and studies the effect of hardware design trade-offs on its performance. Our findings based on extensive simulations, which push the reconstruction algorithm to its breaking point, provide important guidelines for the future development of millimetre-sized sensor nodes.
文摘The occurrence of antimicrobials in the aquatic environment and drinking water has raised the question of their impact on the environment and public health. Animal production is one of the most expressive activities of Brazilian agribusiness. In order to ensure the productivity and competitiveness of the sector, the use of drugs for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes is a common practice. Due to the continuous release of antimicrobials into the environment, the aim of this study was to compare the frequency of detection of tetracyclines and sulfonamides in surface water collected from rural areas in Lidice District of Rio Claro, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. An investigative study was conducted with 24 river water samples analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry and the aim of this study was to determine residues of sulfonamides and tetracyclines based on the USEPA method 1694. The results indicated the presence of sulfamethoxazole and oxytetracycline concentrations at the ng·L<sup>-1</sup> level. The applied method showed overall good performance with recoveries above 57%, method detection limits ≤ 7.17 ng·L<sup>-1</sup>, method quantification limits ≤ 23.90 ng·L<sup>-1</sup> and good linearity.

文摘Paracoccidioidomycosis is the most prevalent systemic mycosis in Latin America. It is a fungal infection caused by the dimorphic fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis. This microorganism can penetrate the human body through direct contact and can cause intense lymphadenopathy, ulcerated lesions in the oral cavity and in the skin among other alterations. In this study, we report a case of paracoccidioidomycosis with unusual clinical presentation, as it manifested in the female sex and although it did not present any relevant complaints of respiratory focus, it presented a single ulcerated lesion in the buccal mucosa. A biopsy of the lesion and a mycological examination revealed Paracoccidioidesbrasiliensis infection.
文摘This is a retrospective study on gigantomastia correction in obesity facing the technique of nipple-areolar grafts and its complexity. The main question is the technical-surgical care during its execution aiming to achieve reparative results that can return to these women the desire to live with better quality of life and health. Method: We performed a retrospective study of all obese patients with severe gigantomastia who underwent reduction mammaplasty with an operative technique using the superior pedicle, with special care for the nipple-papillary grafts. The study was carried out at a single institution between 2001 and 2013, in a total of 30 cases. This operative technique was presented at first time in 1980, with no changes up to now. We emphasized the perfect decortication of the areola and nipples until they were translucent after the maneuvers of Schwartzman and subsequent grafts operated in both breasts. Results: Results were considered satisfactory, from the reparative and aesthetic point of view, emphasizing the degree of improvement observed in women undergoing technique. Discussion: We can say that during all this time of aesthetic and therapeutic-restorative surgery, due to its realization in a single surgical time, there was big impact on the aesthetics of patients and on their families, even taking into account possible complications in the post-operative. Conclusion: The superior pedicle technique, performed as described here, is a safe and reliable procedure in patients with severe gigantomastia.
